I'm 4 months sober TODAY. After 7 years of daily heroin use. Meth came in a couple years ago and became regular as well. A Perfect Circle was there for me when I absolutely had no will to live left. They were there through the fall and the rise back up. I love this band so f-ing much. They were definitely apart of the mixture of things that saved my life. I wasn't alone. Never going back.

13th step - I often thought it meant "graduating" or getting "off the wheel" of the 12 prescribed steps. Of leaving the group, and becoming independent on it. Many say 12-step meetings are a crutch, which you need for a time, and then put down. Others say you need it for life, as addiction is a life-long "disease". I googles 13th Stepping, and it means when members who have been around a while preying are on newer vulnerable ones for sex. I never saw much of that, so won't spread shit about it

Also "i am what i'm after i dont need another friend" refers to holding in high esteem the state of individuality. Using people, events, drugs and sex to attain energy to better ones self. Maynard often makes references to Vampires and leeches etc. Could be that sometimes he is referring to others that try and get by with their hand on his hem, and at other time speaking in third person, describing, as you say, his behavior toward others.

The thirteenth step is relapse, and the song is about scoring drugs, you act deceive the dealer by acting like you actually give a fuck about what they are talking about, when really all you want is to get your drugs as quick as possible and go back to your dwelling spot to shoot in into your veins, speaking of coarse through my own experience

IrishZombie81 so true it's a shitty existence. The 13th step is taking advantage of vulnerable newcomers and sleeping with them where I come from. That's the first I've heard of the 13th step meaning relapse. Either way… This song is so on point

Way to go Lateralus1019! Good job with the vid , and good you made the description about legal issues. Would hate to see this being removed. Masterpiece material. Awesome how they build up the song with layers instrumentally. The drum and specially the playing with-and-without-snare is just fit to the right mood. The base works along great. And finally Maynards' lyrics and his vocal reach are to die for. Damn, he really knows how to set an atmosphere to get his point across within the song

@uriel112358 - This is one of my favorite songs of all time..I would make up videos for it in my head when I would listen to it often...One day this movie came to mind when I was listening to it and I knew it would be a great fit.

I always find it fascinating when different arts tackle the same subject independantly and end up lining up that well with eachother. I personally don't know much about Metropolis so I'm mostly taking your word for it, but I believe it's a similar situation (though on a much smaller timescale) with Donnie Darko + Mad World, and also Dark Souls + All Saints Day.
