(a - b)(a + b + 1) = 0 So, (a - b) multiplied by (a + b + 1) =0 Any number multiplied by zero is zero so either (a - b) or (a + b + 1) must be equal to zero.

a = -7 b= 6 and a = 6 b = -7

Does the question have to tell us that 'a' does not equel to 'b'? Maybe 'a' and 'b' are integers is enough.
