    As someone who has to be creative and find workarounds it's nice to see a channel where the machinist does the best he or she can with the tools that they have or they make them. Far too many seem to have limitless resources and a new machine or high value tool simply appears when it is needed. Side projects are a way of life.

    That was a significant amount of backlash on the shaper table feed, I don't blame you for wanting a new lead screw. The 2mm pitch will also make more precise and fine cuts too.

    Good thinking Rustinox re-using the drive end of the leadscrew. The pin that you mentioned to fix the two parts together will act as a sheer pin if it's not too hard. Cheers Tony

    I share the frustration when the job just gets more and more complex. Just looking at the set angle on the top slide for thread cutting - is it 15 from 0 or 15 from 90? You have me thinking ... Cheers

  • @Rustinox

    @Rustinox

    Hopefully just the shear pin on the lathe leadscrew Rusti and nothing more serious. Before you go too far, I would cut your old leadscrew at your intended split line to make sure it is soft enough for you to machine. Would hate for you to find that out after lots of hours have gone into the new threaded part. Cheers, Jon
