Can you talk about Rel subs or maybe just answer my question about Rel subs 😁. Have you tried them? Do you think the price is justified? There seem to be a lot of people who think they are some of the best for music and integration with speakers while others think that they are overpriced and no better than less expensive subs which have more output and extension per dollar. If this starts a flame war I apologize in advance.

I’m glad the first review of the year is a speaker. I feel like this is just such a good way to start the year! And with such a lovely speaker as well. On a side note, I don’t know what you did, but this video looks different (in all the good ways), the coloring or color grading or something is different and it’s noticeable to me. Also the updated scenery behind Andrew is absolutely beautiful! Yet another great review and a damn nice start to a new year! Good morning Andrew and Kristi. Another great review. I think you make a very important point toward the end of the review where you talk about knowing what kind of listener you are in terms of speakers with regard to V-curve or a more flat linear response. I think unfortunately it takes some trial and error/experience with regard to different speakers over a period of time to really discover where one lands with regard to this preference. Keep the great reviews coming!

Yes Kristi, some of us who actually have the originals will say, as yall have heard from me before, they are beautifully mid forward placing singers right in front, and produces an eerily good phantom center channel. If you ever can snag a pair for fun they are something to hear, and a real over achiever for that 1299.00 original price. The K2’s look like and from you all sound like a good well balanced bargain. Ohh, and I found an out rigger kit from Dayton Audio and the “extra space the speaker is lifted off the floor” (decoupling) allows for bass waves to move differently and it definitely makes a difference especially heard if it’s a 2-Channel set up!! Good review!!!

Good discussion toward the end on one needing to recognize their speaker preferences. It took me a couple years to fully admit I was a Klipsch person over perhaps more refined speakers. It's really too bad Klipsch doesn't know there is more than walnut and black finishes because the finish on this Kendall would be perfect in my room.

That's one of the things I feel is missing about the hobby, allowing people to like what they like. Too many forums, articles, and channels for that matter are aimed at getting the listener to accept or agree to one type of sound, often through vilification. If we all gravitated towards the same thing, there wouldn't be speakers to choose from, there would just be A or THE speaker because we wouldn't need anything else or more.

Great Sunday morning eye opener guys. I was considering these vs Q Acoustic 5040, vs Monitor Audio silver 300. Read so many reviews on the Q Acoustics coming off overly bright, due to mid range dip.....think ive crossed those off my list. My listening area is only 12x16, so these might be a bit too large.

Ported speakers can be really tricky in rooms with lots of hard surfaces. Speakers are typically voiced in an anechoic room, and the bass response is tuned to be flat. But when the speaker is placed in a hard surface room, and the bass response can be boomy - because the surfaces are so reflective, and the low frequency waves just stack on top of each other creating this mushy undefined bottom. It's kind of like being in a crowded bar where the background music is just a din of unintelligible noise. In a room with lots of soft furniture, carpets, and wall treatments, you get more of the sound the manufacturer was going for - with less reflected bass. I've found one very easy solution to the hard surface problem is to use foam inserts in the ports to control the amount of sub-bass that gets out into the room. It's a trial and error method, but works most of the time - in rooms that are mostly hard surface. The other solution for a hard surface room is to get an acoustic suspension design, which naturally does not have as much sub-bass, and will likely have fewer placement and echo issues. I'm curious to know on the Kendall 2F what you discovered about the placement of these speakers in your room? It would also be really interesting to compare your room response graph, to one measured in an anechoic chamber. Thanks for this review. I'd love to to hear the Kendall 2F in person. Carry on.

That bass boost, albeit a bit on the high side is a good thing. The reason being is 95% of homes, mine included, prefer a bass boost. Nearly every home you go to with a sub will see a nearly 10db bass boost. No one likes to admit it, but people prefer a bit of a rise in the low range. It's fact. I run my sub about 3-5 DB hot

I have them placed to compare with the RP-8000f II and I have noticed I prefer the sound stage being behind the JBL and Elevated. Seems to have a very nice room filling stage. I am upgrading from Jamo 809’s and it’s clear how much midrange is sucked out on the Jamo’s compared to the ES60’s and to a lesser extent, the Q Acoustic 3050’s I am also auditioning.

I notice a difference between decoupling technologies I use between my Polk R200's and the speaker stands I use. Using special soft silicone stick on domes(as feet) works better for decoupling the speakers from my room than using these special black foam pads. Decoupling removes the bass response from transferring into my floor and walls; effective decoupling allows the bass to just come from the speaker and not from the room through transferred vibration resonance.

Back when I used the R200's I put the Iso-pucks under them ($200) but the results were not minimal. May be considered a costly investment in comparison to the price of the R200's but the results were well worth it. Plus even though I moved on from those Polk's the Iso-pucks still serve me well.

Wow, that was smart and a great idea. And yeah, you don't need to spend big to get results...free is even better. I was talking with a guy that has a great sounding system yet all of his gear was budget in price and bought mostly used. He had room treatment and decoupling under all his devices... everything DIY made from simple materials. To address what kristi said about decoupling. In my svs subs with the decoupling feet, it was a noticeable difference. Way less vibration from the floor, and gave me a cleaner bass. You cant get a similar effect with washing machine feet pads for far less money.

  • @andrewrobinsonreviews

    @andrewrobinsonreviews

Anytime you can tame vibrations in other objects or the room itself you're going to walk away with the sensation of cleaner bass, however, it's not as if decoupling cleaned up the bass or made the sub better, it simply helped to remove other potential distractions from the equation.

These are basicly a modern version of the KLH 283A the problem is they put the port on the front on these new KLH Kendall. If the port was moved to the back like the origanal KLH 283A would clean that up some. I drive my old vintage KLH 283A's with a Carver amp. When you drive them with a high current discrete componet amp the 283A sounds great from .3 watts all the way up to 200w rms so long as you amp has head room. In my bedroom I think for hours of listening I set mine up to dance between .3 watts swinging up to some place between 25W to 50W with a nominal 1W to 3W it is that dynamic swing that really stands out. You get all the brilliance, clarity, bass and musciality you want that is easy ont he ears for hours of listening. This way you have great vocals and you can hear the strings and when a kick drum or kettle drum hits or you get a barisaxaphone comming in you hear it all. My KLH283A I purchased sometime between 1995 and my wedding in 1997.

The original was bass heavy sounding as well. A darker sounding speaker without much forwardness in the tweeter despite what KLH might say, at least to me.. It was an easy listening speaker when placed correctly which sounds a lot like what you've described here with maybe a touch less of that darker hue than before. The audio goobers who think they know what sound should be for everyone won't like it but for a lot of people it's a smooth, easy listen that will appeal to more people than not. Kind of like art. The critics think they must pan a certain style or piece to keep up their cred with other critics who don't matter at all. It's only the patron and if it's for sales, the buyer who matter and critics hate that they don't get to control the narrative to suit their taste.

. Originals? I had the KLH-1's in 1982 (DDG image search 'em. they'll pop up). With almost clear polypropylene cones, they were very "civilized" sounding with a definite lack of "excitement". I got rid of them for a pair of 15" JBL bass cabinets and Electrovoice horns. Now those were dynamic. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊

What are your thoughts on the WiimAmp? I'm an Android user and really leveraged the multiroom Chromecast audio capability in my home. Was looking at the Wiim amp as an option for one of my TVs for stereo listening which is currently linked to a stereo ceiling speaker. Is this a good option?

@@andrewrobinsonreviews I currently have five Wim Pro streamers and have one of them hooked up via optical input for audio from my Chromecast with Google TVs. There is a massive lag when I try to group that WinPro with my other WiimPros in the Wiim Home app. Wondering if this is any different with the Arc input on the Wiim Amp? If you could include that in your testing/review that would be sweet! You would need a Wiim Pro or Pro plus to test this with though.

Always dig a classic look! Only thing i'd like to request is to get yourself a discrete power amp, theres no justifiable way to accurately review a given speaker without giving it the proper amount of juice . These bad boyz want 250 watts, then you want a Bryston 4b powering them, hands down, no questions asked!

I only saw the wiim and the yammie@@andrewrobinsonreviews, allow me to stand corrected then. Theres just no fair way to rate a given loudspeaker without fully stretching its legs ; )

These look like slightly tweaked Axiom M-60s. Which makes sense since Axiom owns Bryston who made these iirc.
