Honestly I don't think the Neo Geo has aged much at all... Look at how many "pixel art" titles are being put out every year. Most of its contemporary 3D games on the other hand? From the Playstation's warping geometry, to the Nintendo 64's vaseline smear, to the Saturn's blotchy textures... It can be pretty tough to go back.

It went live yesterday morning and within an hour 90% of the listings were sold lol. I have since added more categories and items and will continue to do so but yeah things went quick, especially the Switch games... which I still have more to post. Thanks for checking it out though!

These look really well done. The $350 price point is a little high considering that you can do this yourself a little less pretty for 1/3 the cost. I know not everyone is up for it and I bet these have more love and care put into them than the $250 AliExpress option. Glad you reviewed it.

Ya know the only reason I ever bought one was because I kept hearing how people didn't like them and thought nah can't be that bad. And actually they are pretty good, not great for fighters but everything else it feels great. I been using it just because it's smaller and I don't have a lot of room to work with when recording stuff like this.

Between the open mvs and the cbox + super gun which do you preffer out of the two?

The Supergun setup you can use usb controllers and other Jamma boards, but being I don't have much desire to use those simple may be better for me. So I prefer the OMVS.

Well I do really like this one, its basic, its fairly small. But a lot of them do it well that are out there. But I just feel more confident buying from an individual who stands behind their product over some random seller who doesnt care if you find issues. I think this and the Omega are very nice, the Omega with the RGB board recently put out will have similar visuals to this one but also has a actual plastic molded shell instead of 3d printed and has a bit more features but also comes in at quite a bit more than this one. For price, sure I wish the OMVS was a little cheaper... but I am very happy with it. If the Omega came stock with the better RGB board and was the same price as the OMVS id probably go Omega.

Is it easy to take apart if I wanted to spray paint or air brush the plastic, sand, and polish it?

Yeah just a few screws. I was trying to be careful and didn't wanna accidently force the back port panel off, but on mine it was kind of stuck on one side and I didn't wanna unplug the back cables and have a hard time getting them back in but if I just was careful I'd be able to get the back off. I'm planning on at some point putting a clear coat on the red.

@@Madlittlepixel hehe, there are actually two layers of clearcoat on the unit already 🤣. But yeah, there is an option to receive the build unpainted if you want to handle the job yourself. The plan with it being an open sourced shell is that it encourages experimenting, and if you mess up your shell, you aren't SOL like you would be if you ruined an AES shell.

That thing will shine right up if you just put a file and a sanding block to it, nice gear

How would you compare this to the CBOX MVS? Is it there a difference between the consoles because the cbox in my opinion looks cleaner a better put together

I think the newer CBOX are pretty good and look nice. Those don't include Unibios 4.0 or a battery mod so those are things you'd have to figure out later. I think for what the CBOX is, is pretty good for the price, hard to say for sure with the components used to make them if they are reliable but it seems to work fine. I think the OMVS has a better video output board than those do, but also comes with less in the way of options for video connections, so another thing to keep in mind. The OMVS is basic, gets the job done. The CBOX looks nice has more video options than you need and extra controller options. Either way I think you should be happy, just gotta look at features and what you want out of it. The CBOX the only question is reliability of components used being an unknown... With that said I haven't had any issues with tons of use on the more recent cbox I reviewed, the green one in my previous vids.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I haven't purchased either of them yet and this really helps for a honest opinion because the Neo Geo is a great console and I want to have one that can last for the long haul.

Is it far better than the Ali express Cbox? (I have a Cbox and it works ok for me)

Performance wise, not really. Build quality wise, Omega is a more finished product, just costs more.

If you have an Omega with the replacement RGB board, they have pretty similar performance but of course the Omega is a much more finished product. The OMVS project started out all because I wanted to DIY an Omega after seeing one at PRGE.

lol I love that damn little monitor as its so convenient to use when making videos where I want to have that kind of footage, be just for a moment or for the entire video. But the only nitpick I really have with it is no aspect ratio options, so if the console doesnt force the video to 4:3 you are stuck! and it sucks lol. And about the Omega, I had one a long while back and I thought I had done a video on it but guess I didnt after I checked lol. The Omega was alright but stock the video was too dark and I had lots of distortion on the output. Could never get it working 100%. I may have to get another one and the replacement RGB board to do a video on it lol. Maybe thats already in the works.... but going that route for the board and the Omega you are at a few hundred dollars more than the Open MVS... but its nice to have options to suit what people want.

@@Madlittlepixel I honestly loved it, without the RGB upgrade. But, it was going to a US CRT. I played all my games in AES mode, just wanted that "rich af 12 year old in 1992" feeling. Sold it recently tho, to buy music gear. Getting by on my ASP for now. I'll maybe get another MVS in the future..... still tryna get rid of Blazing Star, CD pad, and bean stick.... 🤔
