A New Challenger: Springfield Echelon Pistol Review

Спорт

In this exciting episode of TFBTV, ‪@JamesReeves‬ dives into the brand new Springfield Echelon Pistol. Unlike traditional pistols, the Echelon employs a serialized chassis system similar to the SIG P320. This groundbreaking design allows users to easily purchase and interchange frames, unlocking a new level of customization and adaptability.
The Springfield Echelon takes versatility to another level with its optics mounting platform. With over 30 different red dot sights compatible right out of the box, this pistol eliminates the need for adapter plates for effortless optic integration.
James goes through the Echelon's features and performance, from ergonomics to trigger and everything in-between. James puts the Springfield Echelon through its paces at the range, demonstrating its accuracy, recoil control, and overall shooting dynamics.

    The double internal safety sounds good, and the grip angle and low bore axis seem to support a modern shooting grip well. Yes it's another polymer 9mm, but that competition is great for keeping prices competitive.

    I purchased this a few days ago and just reached 1000 rounds using various ammo types. No failures as expected. Sights are pretty good for stock. Large blackstrap is the way to go regardless of hand size. Just make sure whatever holster you buy, that it covers the mag release on both sides, as it is very easy to depress if it isn’t completely covered.

The flared slide, the textured platform for the support hand thumb rest, the under the trigger bevel/recess for hte support hand, these are all like shadow systems upgrades that really contribute to the overall gun. I noticed the comment no issues from SA Hellcat. I have one and had about 1,500 rounds no issues. Then started having issues, sent it to IL for them to fix it. When it came back I had 4 slide locked back with cartridges in magazine and 1 went into battery and crushed bullet. 5 FTF out of 159 shots, 31.4,% failure rate. SA currently has it and I think they screwed me on this, it doesn't run well for a SD pistol. I would recommend wait several years on this new one.

    I can confirm holster compatibility is huge, which I suspect is a big reason the Masada and the APX A1 haven’t done better. I’m not really that excited for this option. The new optic idea is interesting if it works. TGC and TFB both had that mag issue so I’m highly suspect that could be their weakness. I don’t really need another duty size 9mm so I doubt I’ll ever change my ways barring some major advancements in what we send down range like plasma or something other than lead projectiles with gunpowder

  • @aleffel9668
    @aleffel9668 Жыл бұрын

    I would’ve made this gun with a 4inch barrel for the full size. That way all they would need is to make a 15 round “compact” grip module and 15 round magazines and you’d be able to swap between full size and compact. Most duty ammo is optimized for a 4” barrel anyways. This handgun looks like a great contender in this genre.

    @@03Grunt-arrino I'm fully aware of that. Although this is a way more of sn innovative design than typical previous HS guns from Springfield. And I do try to buy only American made things whenever possible, with rare exceptions. My Glock 19 was made in Atlanta Georgia. I've got a few other Smith and Wessons. The new Walther PDP, and possibly this, I might make an exception for.

    8:17 Not surprised with the accuracy. The XDM series has been incredibly accurate. I'm guessing this is a descendant of the XDM family, even though they say it's brand new. Having said that, it would have been nice for us longtime XDM guys to be able to use our XDM magazines. Is that too much to ask? Glock and Canik are both doing this with great success.

    Time will tell on reliability but so many good options out there today. I think the biggest barrier to entry for most (well I’ll speak for myself) is already having the gear and mags for a particular model. This or the Beretta APX A1 would probably be my next pistol if not already being so invested in Glock. But either of those would be a great first pistol for a newer shooter or some not so invested in another platform.

    That’s largely my reaction as well. I like the idea of a chassis system, and the universal mounting is appealing (assuming it works as intended), so I think everything here is pretty good. It’s just that I personally am not entirely sold on the idea of the added cost of additional gear, mags, etc, and parts and such being new and proprietary. Honestly, I myself am not a major fan of stock Glocks, but there’s SO MUCH aftermarket support for them, and that I DO like having.

    My favorite thing about my P320 is I can take it from a 5" full size, to a 4.7", to a 3.9", down to a 3.6" compact and use a 9mm, .357sig, or 40 SW just by changing the barrel and slide, depending on the barrel length, and change the grip depending on the situation. If I can do this same thing with this new SA platform, I'm definitely getting one.

    It has some nice features. No need to pull the trigger for takedown. Chassis system. 20 round magazines. Multiple optics choices without a plate. Glock style safety. Picatinny rail. Co-witness sights. Real Ambidextrous magazine release, instead of an Ambi-Friendly switchable release. Squared off trigger guard. Great serrations on the slide and "ears" for better grip when racking the slide. Great trigger. The only negative might be the lack of choices in frame sizes at product launch. Probably should have gotten those ready for the launch.

    The fact it fits a 6000 series Safariland holster already is big in my book. I know Springfield made mistakes in the past, but I really feel like they are one of the companies that is trying to listen. This pistol appears like they took their time and pieced together something that will probably do well. Personally I would have loved to see the Beretta APX gain traction, but it seems that even the redesign is struggling to gain enough of a following to get people interested in designing grip modules.

My point is while I like the some features of the Echelon that trigger still better be very good. One reviewer pointed out that it has the Glock grip angle. Nothing wrong with that, but definitely is a bit of a gripe in the world of chassis pistols. This seems like it ticks all the boxes. Glock bore axis. Shadow systems cut. Sig chassis system. Disassembly without a trigger pull. If it proves reliable, and the aftermarket adequately supports the design, then I can see myself picking up the Echelon and moving to it as my main handgun.
