A New Budget Keyboard King? Chosfox CF81 Review

Ғылым және технология

The CF81 is Chosfox's entry into the budget custom 75% keyboard space. But does it have what it takes to dethrone existing options, like the QK75, at it's super promising price point?

Just learned about the brand Chosfox when I went to my first meetup in April and took home about 100 of their switches and they’re actually really great. Nice board for a very reasonable price, & great video as always. 💪

I'm happy to see a keyboard video that doesn't use lo-fi coffee shop lounge music. That phase is overdone lol. Good job :)

I might have to pick one up. I originally had an bakeneko 65 as my first custom board with oilkings. The issue I have with it is due to the oring mount. The function and arrow key likes to pop out. And I’d like to have function keys as I have gotten more into rpgs.

I just got mine today! Overall feeling is awesome for the price, but how did you make it SO bouncy 4:12. I took out case foam and plate is still barely moving. Also knob is not rolling well at some positions, but i think it's fixable. Thank you for your review btw. I checked it and decided to get this keyboard. No regrets yet :)

It is almost hard to believe that this budget keyboard comes with coiled aviator cable when at the same time absolute premium keyboards rarely packaged with nice cables...

In terms of aesthetics, it looks like the amalgamation of every budget-tier alu boards + keychron (notably on the packaging). No complaints on it though, since it looks like you're getting what you paid for.

For $126, you can't ask for more. Full aluminum case and all the bells and whistles you'd want. The leading competitor is the Monsgeek M1, IMO, as it's in stock compared to the QK75 group buy. If a US vendor can carry the CF81, they can have better odds of selling. I did a mock buy, and the shipping directly from Chosfox is $38, which is way too steep compared to buying a Monsgeek M1 from some US vendors and getting free shipping (I believe Divinikey and TKC). Both boards need force-break, and after that, you're flying! Great video, as always.

I was kinda hoping they'd send you their Arctic Fox switches for a sound test, but then again, there's only a small percentage of people that like to hear clicky sound tests.

Meme plates are a scam. But on another note, I notice that certain entry-level boards start their names with xx60, xx65, xx75, xx80, etc. Whereas boards like Choxfox CF81, Epomaker, Akko, and other Amazon boards utilizes xx61, xx67, xx81, etc naming. I'm curious if boards coming from QK are considered entry level boards, then are the boards like Chosfox considered 'budget' entry level boards? Genuinely curious.

my guess is that 60 65 and alikes are customized keyboard oriented while 61 67 81 are generic gaming keyboard oriented

You forgot to mention the biggest advantage the QK75 has over the Chosfox, layout options. The Chosfox locks you into the standard exploded 75% layout, while the QK75 can be configured to be compatible with stepped caps, split backspace and so on.

Tbh, I don't even think this is a direct competitor to the QK75. This is more in line to compete with boards that are a tier lower, and it can be a top recommendation if its marketed that way.

@@J7T800 yes, I pointed what I said out, because I don't think it's fair to compare it with the QK boards, since they do offer way more features (at a higher price)

Ah, intended for that to be grouped in with the "options and versatility" mentioned in the conclusion. This video wasn't really meant to be a detailed comparison, just wanted to point out some important factors since their price points are really close

Good entry keyboards were always available, just not to the west. I remember buying Topre-clone keyboard with hypersphere rings for only $50 from Taobao like a decade ago.. The same keyboard were available on western market by the same provider, but they would spike the price like 3x. I don't know if they still do the same thing, but I remember that buying from AliExpress, Ebay and other marketplaces was a rip-off compared to Taobao.

There are so many great budget boards available atm with Cycle7, Molly60, QK100 all in group buy right now. This board sounds decent for the price but its vastly overshadowed right now I think, but man I wish budget designers would try something other than gasket mount. Top mount is easier to produce, louder than gasket, and provides a superior build experience
