For those of you asking: A "fosse septique" is a septic tank. That is the pipe Lincoln had to repair :)

Husband and I moved from NYC to rural northwestern ireland eight years ago. Our daughter came over, and got her Masters degree at Trinity in Dublin. It’s an incredible school, has provided her with infinite opportunities back in NYC - and if your daughter can go here - DO IT. Finding a place to live in Dublin is a horrific challenge - and truth to tell - the cost of her attending Trinity as a “foreign” student from the USA, and the cost of paying for her living accommodation - were pretty much the same $…. No regrets. That degree will open doors for her the rest of her life.

We had a golden retriever that was a rescue and came with the name of Guinness...she lived to be 16...I'm so glad that we can get the Kerrygold Irish butter here in Georgia! I love that stuff and we always have to have it on St Patricks day with all of the Irish "fixins". I had to get a new septic system put in while my husband was deployed and then when he go back, we had to have a new system put in for the washing machine..we had no idea it was a separate system.. funny what you learn when everything is not working in your house/chateau!

The donkeys are so stinking cute!!! Love them so much, how fun to have them. Very sad the pups (and you) have to deal with the hunters but I guess that’s a trade off for living in such beautiful countryside! It must be such a wonderful life to get up every day and do physical work and have such a purpose - the physicality of moving everyday and creating or organizing or fixing something has to be so rewarding. I don’t know what your careers were in San Francisco but this has to beat it for sure 😂🎉❤. Really enjoy your videos!

I'm almost caught up now on your channel -- been bingeing for quite a few days. I think the thing I love most about your property is the cluster of out buildings. They are so old and charming and look like a tiny hamlet. Your chateau is very beautiful too, and although it might be small compared to some others, if you attached all the other buildings to it (as some chateaux are) it would be quite large. It seems perfect that you get to have all that additional square footage, but keep your privacy as a family. The other thing I love is your animals. I adore donkeys and wish I could convince my hubby to get us some, but we are a bit old for more livestock. Is there a happier dog than Enzo? My kitten just turned back on your video after I'd paused it to go clean their litter box ... she's trying to get your cats' watch hours up :)

Very good that you stacked the wood. Here in the Belgium Ardennes they also put waved metal sheets on it and stones on these sheets. Or you could built a sort of roof over it, mounted to the wall. Dry all the wood: also the less nice ot half rotted once because also that burns. I also dry and burn the cut hedge twigs and branches. I like it that you stay down-to-earth people. Regards from a Dutch in East Belgium.

Amanda, you always take such beautiful photos and videos. Trinity College is beautiful and I buy that butter in the US also! Lincoln was having scientific, philosophical conversations with the dogs, so I do believe he missed you. We have septic systems where I live and after 30-40 years they fail so the soil has to perk to find a new location for one. They are very expensive but necessary. I can’t believe you have a daughter old enough for college, but it is an exciting time and also sad when they leave home. I cried for hours when I left my first child at college for her freshman year. It got easier by the time the third child left, but the overlapping tuitions for three kids in college was enough to make me cry!!! Now they’re all successful and have children of their own. All that tuition did pay off. Good luck to your daughter and your family. And those donkeys are just too cute. Hugs.

Maybe a suggestion to help your back? I have 60-100 foot trees I’ve been slowly taking down. Using our children’s old wagon (Amish built with springs and wide tires) is surprisingly helpful. Handles quite a lot of weight and isn’t the same strain when pulling as pushing a wheel-barrow. Best wishes with those logs!

Greetings from Dublin🇮🇪🤗. Trinity would of course be my first choice but accommodation would be cheaper in Galway if that’s a deciding factor. Love Lincoln’s Home Alone time! I bet he misses you terribly but at least he has plenty of company! Yes, we love our donkeys! I had an all Ireland champion donkey would you believe? 😂. Well, she wasn’t mine but wandered in one day and we looked after her until we found her owners. She was an escape artist! They would take her home and she would break out and come back to us! Unfortunately her favourite pastime was breaking out of our paddocks too and taking my horses on excursions 🫣 We eventually had to give in and send her home. She came back a few more times of course 😅 Guinness does not travel well unfortunately. You just can’t beat a pint of the black stuff on Irish soil ❤

Glad to see the family reunited and whole again after the brief trip to Dublin. I love Dublin. However I can only handle staying no more that two weeks at a time. The gray days wear me down fast. I pray those pipes were tested to ensure they're not asbestos before you began ripping them out. Most concrete pipes installed at the turn of the century up until the 80s had asbestos added to improved their strength. Ripping them out releases asbestos fibers. To prevent contamination of the house and grounds a specialized hazardous materials removal team and equipment is required.

Our "new" house had something called "Orangeburg" pipe to remove water from our house. In the marketing for the product an elephant was shown standing on it. Great, right? What it didn't take into account was that when wet, Orangeburg pipes compressed and became more and more oval, not round, until flat! Oh boy! Great!

Hey FIY - You can make brown sugar by just mixing regular white sugar and molasses 😊 It’s better to get as properly brown - ie not as refined as white sugar - but it’s the same thing essentially as just adding molasses back into regular white sugar!

Dublin is a great city but expensive and that was before covid. Hope you went to see the library in Trinity college the history is amazing! At least Lincoln played with his pipes 😂

Where I live we don't hear gun shots but we do have fireworks at least three times a year and there are always some jerks lighting them off the week before and a week after each occasion. My dogs are terrified and try to hide as best they can including behind the toilet in the basement bathroom.

Have you considered University College Cork ? Dublin is bustling for a student but so expensive. Galway has always been known as a great student town. Cork is a nice size as the second city and UCC is nicely centered. My own 17 year old will be going to UCC in Sept 2025 (all going well !), but we're fortunate to live only 2kms from the college, so it's an easy decision :)

Do your kids live with you, we never see them on video or helping out? What are your long-term plans for the chateau, B&B, an animal rescue, or an events center? What was your careers before taking on the chateau? Lincoln seems so calm all the time.

Ok, well I for one need to hear more of the tutelage of Enzo on quantum mechanics (or whatever subjects!). Are you going to paint or otherwise upgrade the basement at some point?

A fosse septic is a septic tank system, for those of us in the USA It seems there are as many regulations there as here, and the country is relatively sparsely populated so even in the towns they have them.!

Loved the beautiful colleges, Lincoln and the dogs, and, of course, the donkeys. Is Uvea a female and could she be pregnant? If a male, well then, never mind. ❤️❤️
