About the Speakers:
Dr. Troy Wellicome holds a BSc in Ecology and Animal Behaviour from Univ. of British Columbia, and a PhD in Environmental Biology and Ecology from Univ. of Alberta. As an Adjunct Professor, he has worked with post-docs and supervised numerous grad students in studies of grassland birds-of-prey. As a Species At Risk Biologist, Troy is responsible for conservation and management of Endangered or Threatened prairie birds, partnering with a wide variety of organizations and people. He began researching Burrowing Owls over 30 years ago in southern Saskatchewan, and chaired the National Burrowing Owl Recovery Team for 15 years.
Dr. Stefano Liccioli holds a BSc/MSc degree in Natural Sciences, a MSc in wildlife Eco-pathology, and a PhD in Ecology. Currently, he develops, leads and implements- in collaboration with other staff, partner agencies and research institutions - monitoring and active management programs for the conservation and recovery of Species at Risk in the prairie region of Alberta. His main interests include conservation of endangered species, transmission dynamics and impact of wildlife diseases, conservation genetics and mitigation of wildlife-human conflict.
Graham Dixon-MacCallum holds a BSc in Biology from Acadia University and an MSc in Biology from the University of Victoria. Graham has been working for the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo for 7 years, and has lead the organization’s burrowing owl program since 2017. Aside from his work with burrowing owls, Graham has also studied anti-predator behavior in the conservation breeding population of Vancouver Island marmots at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.
