    Based on the comments, an incredible amount of people missed what actually happened here. She had a tumor in her pancreas that caused a chronically elevated level of insulin, which was constantly pushing her blood sugar below the normal range. Going keto forced her body to rely entirely on the glucose it produces itself, which your body is normally able to do without problems, especially after it has adapted to using ketones for fuel for most things. Due to the chronic hyperinsulinemia, her body was not able to function normally. Going keto actually revealed an underlying medical condition that otherwise might have gone unnoticed for months or years. I guess there is also a warning here: Sometimes it's not just keto flu, but actual hypoglycemia.

  • @ayushdeshmukh284

    @ayushdeshmukh284

    3 жыл бұрын

    Exactly. If there's anything this situation tells about normal physiology is that high insulin wrecks your ketone production, regardless of whether you're on the keto diet or fasting or whatever. No wonder we shouldn't be eating sugary carbs with fats in the same meal.

For symptoms, Docs offered removing ovaries but not a reason why it was necessary to undergo a major surgery. Then, many years later, new doc gave her a scan and could point it out. Doc said they would not remove her ovaries if they can be saved. The growth was "softball size" and as the doctor moved her ovaries out of the way to get to it they "just fell apart".

    That's because it's common for doctors to disbelieve female patients. There's a long history of medical and psychological doctors telling women that their problems are all in their heads when they are actually suffering from real health conditions. Some doctors used to say PMS wasn't real and that women were lying about cramps and other premenstrual issues so they can get out of housework and "seek attention".

    I used to ride my bike up to 50 miles a day before i broke my knee. During the time i was non weight bearing I did not change my eating habits as a result my weight doubled.. I reached a point where i was always hungry even if i just ate. So I got a surgery called a gastric sleeve where most of the stomach is removed. Immediately following that surgery I went from eating all the time to barely eating at all. It was a HUGE adjustment period for my body. The thing is I am also ADHD and the first really bad hypoglycemic episode I had I was only alerted to because of my cat. She bit me until she yanked me out of my hyperfocus, yelled at me and then led me to the kitchen and yelled at me again. She alerted me several more times after that as my body adjusted to getting healthier portions of food less often. After a few months I quit having these attacks and I am still doing well. My cat still takes very good care of me.

    My stepdaughter's mom tried to get her to do a keto diet with her when kiddo was just 15/16. I had a bad feeling about it so I researched and it can cause either diabetes or hypoglycemia in teens, depending on how the body reacts, because of the hormone fluctuations and frequent imbalances as puberty hits hard and fast. I printed out the warnings from sites like the Mayo Clinic and other hospitals, told kiddo to refuse the diet in lieu of just eating healthier, starting active, and limiting quantity of problem foods - a SAFE diet. I sent the articles home with her and asked her father to explain to her mother how dangerous keto can be for a teenager and that we were vehemently against it. Fortunately, the mother realized the dangers and stopped forcing the unhealthy diet onto my girl.

    Yea but then we get to the end and find out the real reason she's having a problem isn't the keto diet but the cancer she has that prevents her from going into ketosis. Her cancer produces 3 times the normal amount of insulin when there is insulin in the blood the liver won't perform gluconeogenesis she didn't just have no sugar in her blood she also had no keytone bodies.

    I remember when I tried to go vegan for the 3rd time in my life. I was subsisting on fruits, veg, beans and carbs- just no meat, eggs, cheese, or animal product. As had happened before, a couple weeks in and I got very sick. Immune system was weak. I was catching everything and at one point had a summer cold that lasted a few months. When I resumed including meats and eggs back into my diet, I instantly felt stronger, had more stamina, sickness went away. I’ve learned to listen to my body. I don’t struggle with weight gain and I’m a lot stronger than I look. I don’t eat meat everyday but I eat it once or twice a week and that’s all I need to keep myself healthy. We’re all so different and just because a diet works for one person, doesn’t mean it can work for everyone.

    I learned during fitness competitions that you have to be very careful when cutting carbs because they are a VERYY important part of diet. Our coach told us that if we started experiencing trouble sleeping or started feeling very emotional then we need to eat some carbs because it was a bad sign and we could end up in the hospital.

    I think what people should do when they try keto is to taper carbs so their body has time to adjust. If your diet jumps from 60% carbs to 5% overnight your whole system is going to freak out, tumor or not. Energy is essential for your body. It can either burn carbohydrates or fatty acids for energy. If it's been using one primarily for many years, it's not going to like rapid switching to the other.

    Wait, if "JC" was trying to "feed her daughter naturally," doesn't that mean breastmilk? I gained about 50 pounds while pregnant; while breast feeding, I was eating normally, but the pounds were just melting off due to the calories going into the breast milk. After 6 months of breastfeeding, all but about 10 pounds of the extra weight were gone; I lost the last 10 pounds over the next 6 months. If you're trying to breastfeed, it's NOT the time for a reducing diet, since your baby NEEDS those calories in the milk!

    I was in a keto diet for 6 months , I lost 80 LBS, and suddenly my body muscles start twitching unstoppably It was a scary experience. I was referred to a neurologist because my PCP suspected I have ALS. I stopped the keto diet and get back to my regular diet, and things start to get better after almost a year. My advice: you want to loose weight, simply EXERCISE and eat healthy.

    Most normally healthy people do well on keto, it's very effective in most cases, but of course do healthy keto, not dirty, and cycle off it for a bit after about 6 months. Like everything in life, moderation is the key. The dose is what can make anything a potential poison, so be mindful.
