Huge thanks to Audible who sponsored this video. I donated part of the proceeds to the Shriner's Hospitals For Children and doubled it with a personal match of the same amount.
These cases are patients who I, or my colleagues have seen. They are de-identified and many instances have been presented in more depth in an academic setting. These videos are not individual medical advice and are for general educational purposes only. I do not give medical advice over the internet, see your own physician in person for that.

I think you should consider adding information from the pharma companies about their assistance programs for people that can't afford their insulin. It's shocking how few people know that resource exists, and you could literally save lives by increasing awareness of these programs.

Watching these videos made me realize that americans are way too liberal with their medicines. Taking THREE different fever medications at once is idiotic. They all have the same end result, how can you not at least IMAGINE that they probably all work in a similar way? And if you actually bother to read the information sheet (as you should), every NSAID ever tells you not to mix it with other NSAIDs as literally the first item in the "interactions with other medications" section. Also I've never taken an anti diarrhea drug in my life and I don't think I ever will.

Overconsumption of Vitamin C may not kill you, but it is a big waste of money since your body will just urinate it back out. Vitamin C can also have laxative properties too!! For your financial sake, and for your comfort, only take what you need when it comes to water soluble vitamins.

I remember one day I ate/drank two large jars of pickles then went house hunting with my SO. I had to pull over because I started getting pins and needles in my hands/feet, which then spread throughout my body and was joined by intense nausea. Also had tunnel vision, which was very bad because my SO couldn't drive my stick shift car. My assumption, having no formal medical knowledge was that I caused an electrolyte imbalance via the 14g of sodium consumed in an hour. But the entire time I was experiencing this I was thinking, "I do not want to end up in a Chubbyemu video. Not like this. Not over something stupid like this." Love your channel btw.

Do you have a pump and/or CGM? If you don't, and have access to either, I highly recommend trying to get one, or both. I've had T1D for 22 years. I used to constantly go into DKA (not noncompliance, brittle). Anyway, my A1C went from >9% to 6.4% within three months of receiving my CGM (I've had a pump for 14 years). Best of luck to you.

Would like to know how you pay your treatment in the USA. I am a legal immigrant of thirty some years, came as a graduate student, insured via school clinic, worked professionally for government, insured, married and stopped working after my first baby was born, but still insured via spouse work place insurance. Now marriage failed I can't find a job with health insurance. I am terrified that if I get sick, I would not be able to afford any treatment. My first born is going to be a MD soon. His experience is that illegals, American poor on government dough can get free medical treatment any time, but not his mom because I still can afford my food and rent. I am deeply outraged by how my government treats me as a tax payers, far worse than criminals and freeloaders from foreign countries.

I'm currently making my way through grad school on scholarships but because of those restrictions that you're talking about, I can't work to earn an independent living unless I want to risk my health. Do whatever you can to change the system because I'm not even a citizen. I didn't make the laws. You should really be more angry against the ableist system that allows stuff like this to happen. Once I got receted like 4 different pills by the doctor after a surgery, plus the one that I take daily and other 2 that I bought because I also got an stomach infection because my town's water suddenly pulled out kinda dirty.... I took them all over the day and suddenly my heart rate fell down, almost fainted, couldn't stand, surgery pain came back, couldn't sleep, my toilet got destroyed and had to stay in bed for 4 days. All because im an idiot and took all of these 7 pills in just one day. Worst moment in my entire life, I tough I was going to die!! After that day I stopped receiving most pills, grown some balls and rather resisted through the pain. The surgery pains wasn't that bad after all XD. That experience teached me that most pain medicines aren't really magical and won't really fix anything and that can also be pretty fucking dangerous if mixed.

She couldn't afford the doctor and couldn't afford to miss work, so she had to "be her own doctor" to compensate. Mostly cause the American healthcare system sucks, people can't afford proper care.

I would like to thank you for donating money to Shriners hospital they have helped me so much my life would have been very different without them. Knowing that my surgery was around a quarter of a million dollars (given this was in 2005 ) and my parents paid so nothing everything is paid by donation .Thank you!!

I am a high school science teacher (physics), and your channel is one of the few "informational" channels on KZread that actually presents genuine, easily verifiable scientific/medical and logically coherent statements that are also presented in an attractive format. Well done, sir. There are so many channels that make wild claims and simply say "Scientists have shown that..." and people will just accept this as fact. I will definitely be recommending your channel to my biology/anatomy/chemistry teacher colleagues.

If I had people who explained things like you do, I wouldn’t be so to afraid to go to college. (I mean that- and all the expenses) I’ve loved all of the content you have put out. Not only do you explain it well, but I can feel your passion for the/in the subjects! *Random rant, I apologize in advance. Might wanna stop reading now. Kinda long..... * I’ve always wanted to be in medicine. I kept down-grading what I thought I could do. I’ve been out of high school for 5 years now. Class of 2013- and I haven’t done a single thing to go to college. First, I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then I realized how difficult it would be to basically “read an animals mind” and only go off what they can show me. Also, it would hurt me so much to be around sick animals so often. Secondly, I wanted to be a doctor. I know that’s A LOT of schooling, but I wanted to do it. I’ve always wanted to help people. What better way than to be able to be part of the reason they’re alive, right? I wanted to get into family practice. I was even very open to the idea of going down a more specific branch if I found myself more intrigued in xyz. Finally, I found out about RNs. They are very much like a doctor, but usually with less schooling and a few other differences. I especially loved how more involved they seemed with their patients (in my experience and in others I have heard). They can do many things most doctors can. Currently, I just want to be AT LEAST a nurse. Especially after experiencing such a kind nurse after a surgery I had. She was amazing. I wanted to be part of making people feel how that nurse made me feel. Safe. Mothering, even. I can’t seem to make that step. Watching your videos reminds me of how much I want to do this. So, thank you. ❤️
