Doc has spent time at iconic tiki bars like Trader Vic's, Pagan Idol, Zombie Village and Wilfred's. In 2023 he went on Tour and is going back out for an encore in 2024, starting at the Kon Tiki in Oakland on Saturday, March 16th, 2023. One of the drinks he'll be serving on tour is the Banana Afterlife (recipe at the bottom). While his Passionola recipe is a closely guarded secret, it does have passion fruit, possibly some stonefruit, and other ingredients from "the Pacific."

Used the Cocktail and Sons Fassionola but prob needed to half it with passion fruit syrup. Didn’t have 2 of 3 rums so went with 3/4 Rum Fire 3/4 1919 and 1/4 Clement Blanc and 1/2 OFTD to try to hit the notes I’ve read on the other two. Good drink and the banana is subtle and I’m guessing mostly from the Rum Fire

I guess this is as good of a reason as any to finally grab a bottle of Tanduay. Doc, whenever you're back in the Bay area, let us know. I love Zombie Village, but haven't yet had a chance to check out Pagan Idol.

Can’t wait for the Fassionola book! Everyone just kind of guesses what’s in it. I was told a long time ago that Hawaiian Punch was made to imitate the flavor of Fassionola so I always try to hit that flavor profile

Not sure the origin of the Hawaiian Punch as a sub but it does show up in the Phoebe Beach and Arnold Bitner book but I don’t have a lot of faith in those recipes or opinions. Interesting to see what the book comes up with. From my limited findings, the historic Passionola that predates Fassionola was just passion fruit syrup and it shows up in early 1900s at soda fountains.

Hey Derek! My bottle of Passionaola came in - I want to make this drink but can’t get my hands on Tanduay gold. Anything you’d recommend to replace it with? Ive never tasted a gold Asian rum so Im not sure what would compare.

I don't. I've only had it in cocktails. I'd just suggest using a gold rum that you like.
