A Missing Mindset- Embracing your Errors

Спорт

Embracing your errors. As the new season begins it's very easy to get down on yourself for underperforming in the practice range or at a tournament. What Ive learned over the years is that "missing" is part of the game or at least it has been for me. If you let those errors affect the rest of your training then you will have a hard time getting out of a slump and downward spirals will just continue to develop. I have found that my missed arrows are a result of flaws that I have in technique and self induced pressure from never expecting errors is hard to live with. If you embrace those flaws and look at them positively so that you can use those mistakes to prevent the future ones then your mental strength will grow. As a rule of thumb I always assume I will make a mistake here or there so when I do I just think to myself "ok, now that I got that out of the way, how do I learn from it?" and move on. There's already enough pressure in archery and hitting the bullseye so there's no need at adding internal pressure on yourself from over expectation.

Interesting thought. I am by far harder on myself than anyone in this world. I NEVER shoot a perfect session. Good learning tool! Thanks!

Not sure if this will come across as kind, maybe a bit more passive aggressive, but it occurred to me a more interesting thought that you feel that you have an accurate assessment of how hard every human on the planet is on themselves and that you surpass it by far. Unless you read minds, I'm fairly skeptical. As evidenced by John, humility in this hobby/passion will likely yield better results. Not trying to trash you but maybe think about the level of emphasis in your comments in the future? Alternatively, if you just meant that you are harder on yourself than others, not meaning to comment on the degree by which you do that, carry on, I may just have too much time on my hands to be correcting strangers grammar on the Internet.

Expectation. You have an idea of what the other people will say or think. The goal is to be as unaware of the other people as possible. Not to forget them, but to be blind to them. Be so focused on the target and the shot that the environment is gone. Unless they are between you and the target, you shouldn't be concerned about them.

I needed that, refreshing concept. Has there been any instruction of patterning your misses? Example - misses are low right = Ancher point high and bow torqued?

How many reps do you start with in the winter? And how many are you up to by the time outdoor season season starts?

Apologies for asking this on a video unrelated to the topic of the question, I feel it a more recent video would have a higher chance of a response. I shoot a compound set to 40lbs and have recently purchased a hogg father sight. I've sighted in at 20 as instructed, then in order to give me more data points, I also sighted in at 30 and 40. Upon sighting in at 40 I realised that any of the sight tapes provided would not be long enough and that I would either have to make my own sight tape or make some adjustments to my bow, I understand that increasing my draw weight will result in a faster arrow speed, therefor resulting in a "flatter" arrow trajectory, which in turn would mean a decrease in sight tape length. I've been told that adjusting my peep height would have a more profound effect on the sight tape length but im having trouble understanding how and whether I would need to increase or decrease the peep height. Could someone please help me understand it? Thanks.

Hello treeb7951, moving your peep height will potentially gain you elevation by simply moving your sight tape slightly higher. If you move your peep a few millimetres up the string then your 20yard sight mark will also move slightly higher up the scale, so this is your starting point. However the gap between your 20 and 40 yard sight mark will still be the same amount, so your 40 yard sight mark will also be the same amount higher, but the sight tape will still be the same length gaining you nothing. Basically the larger the distance between the nocking point and the peep then the greater the available amount of travel on your your sight to get to a longer distance before the bottom of the scope housing makes contact with the vanes on the arrow as it leaves the bow. If that was your issue then for example switching from a wrist release, to a handheld release where your anchor point is lower on your face, (and further from your eye) would rectify that problem. For your issue the only way to make the sight tape shorter is to make the arrows lighter and faster, or increase the draw weight on the bow.

@user-qp6dh8lp9g My bow was originally set to 55lb when I got it, but I dropped it to 40lb as I was tiring very quickly at 55 (the range is 40 to 55). I've just increased it to 50 because I'd been finding 40 a bit easy lately, so I was due an increase anyway, so I thought what better time to do it than now (a whole 10lb increase may be a bit much but i'll find out soon). I noticed my 20 yard starting point was around 1/5 the way from the dial starting point so I also lowered my peep by about a third of an inch to fix that, I'll be testing it out tomorrow to see how it goes and making any adjustments it may need. Thanks for your reply. Edit: I've also gotten some shorter arrows, I was shooting with 30 inch but needed 28 so hopefully, the lighter arrows will do me some good too.

Why not just stay in the mind set 24/7, in all you do! It all starts with a or the thought, then speak(word) it into being by saying it them you put into action by doing, Repetition, until it becomes automatic!
