Thank you so much!
I would´ve never thought on placing the light source below the table, pointing upwards, as a lighting step up. Mind blown, sir!

haha me either! One thing I forgot to mention with that is that from the subjects point of view, you must be able to see the light source or else it will not be properly illuminated. So if the umbrella was any lower beneath the table, the peppers wouldn't have been properly lit. Thanks for watching Edwin!
My mind exploded when you said lowering shutter speed only affects the window light.

Honestly same here, I have been taking photos for years now and I haven't really realized that. Felt so dumb!
reminded and humbled me that the white umbrella is the OG modifier and when used CORRECTLY it will produce the result of beautiful soft light . I had to subscribe after this .
the best lighting guru in youtube. thanks a lot
I don't want this to sound cheesy but.. you are truly amazing. I mean, I'm blown away by how much I can learn in just 8mins from you. And how easy you make it seem. I mean, it makes so much sense how you explain it, and it's incredible how perfectly you reproduce natural light. Your videos are educational and addictive the same time :) thank you for everything!
So professional ! Best KZread ever to teach about lightening.
Definitely what I’ve been lookin for! Thank youuu!!!
love your videos! it covers a lot details about how to use flash and diffusers that I don't know in the past time!

Thank you Ian! Appreciate it 🙏
I really love the way you explain. I hope you keep doing this more.❤️❤️
Thank you for this wonderful video. I always felt that you can totally pare down your kit to achieve amazing photos and you have totally proved my point! Love this 😊
Omg, thanks so much for the explanation. My wife has been struggling as a food photographer as she's very accustom with natural light but finds it hard to nail the flash light even with umbrella and diffuser. But after watching your video and understand better how the fundamental works it has totally change the result to be very close even almost identical to natural light.
Love the way you went into detail about the set up. Thank you very helpful...
Love your videos brandon!!. Probably the easiest video to learn about lighting!
I always had questions about Flash and haven't found a good video explaining. This was very helpful. Thank you.

Agreed, I feel like before it seemed so formulaic like "must put light source here, ok light goes this direction, always super soft light" but watching these vids makes you think a lot more about the role light plays in an image and how thinking about it differently can really impact an image.
very useful and high quality content. thanks very much it helps me learn more about photography with flash.

Hey! I know you're a food photographer, but I find you're a really reliable and knowledgeable photography teacher in general (and I'm studying photography in college right now). Could you maybe create a video sometime about affordable lighting kits? Your one video 'What to look for in a continuous light' was so helpful to me already, but it looks like you often use battery-powered strobes for your work and I think that's the type of gear I would want as well. I'm more of a portrait photographer myself, so knowing which kit or what kind of equipment is most ideal (& minimal) for artists (& students) pursuing different avenues of photography would be SO cool and appreciated! This minimalist kit wouldn't be the best solution for portrait photography, so if you're open to this 'lighting & minimal gear' subject on a much broader scale, I'd love to learn more from you and hear what you have to say. Cheers!
Wow haha thank you for sharing. This is exactly what I was looking for! yey! New sub here!

I just buy one flash and end up learning from this video. Thank you My flash is Godox TT520ii, it's cheap but good, it have a build in wireless (receiver) and a simple trigger.
Awesome video
I dont know why, but for me, your voice is really comforting and really easy to listen to, so it is easier for me to understand everything, well, english is not my first language tho. Btw, really really nice video, notification is on for me.

Such good info:)
Your videos are truly amazing. I love the way you speak because even for people who don't speak english so well, it's really understandable. Thank you so much for that. I got a question, is you kit great if it's total darkness in the room ? Because you always use also the light from outside ? I don't have a lot pf natural light in my house. Thank you so so much for everythig. You make us better photographer ;) Xxx from France
Thank you for your teaching. Very useful tips for learner. I am new here and i am still learning. Have not get my choosen camera yet. Coz i am looking two ways. Photo shooting and video too. Do you have any recommended brand? I previously use a few dslr which is Nikon brand. Have not try Sony or Canon.
Great video
Another great video! Do you find flash (speedlight) to be a sufficient light source for food and product photography? You seem to also use strobo that has much stronger power so I wanted to know how you distinguish when to use flash vs strobo. Thanks!
Very nice
Great techniques that I'll definitely try… since South Africa just started a 21 day lockdown.

I don't know about the best, but I appreciate that, thank you! 🙏
Hi, I know this video is old. But can you share where you get your backdrops? I love the natural plaster looking backgrounds you use!
For those of us who have a minuscule amount of photography equipment we usually still have some extra umbrellas. What’s nice to remember is these umbrellas can be added to a lighting setup as reflectors, diffuser, and flags.

I agree. Umbrellas can be super versatile. Thanks for watching Jim!
Very nice video
Hi, your videos are really helpful for us who are just starting out...just a question...do you think the Zhiyung M20/C will be sufficient for Food Photography? I don't have a studio (yet) and want to be mobile.
