It was a very stressful time for Novak plus it was the match he needed to win for the calendar slam. Novak was asked about it months after the US open, why he was so emotional and he said that he had so much pressure on him expecting to win that it played with his mindset the whole two weeks. I remember literally after every match he was asked the exact same question "Novak what would it mean to you to be the only player in the open era to win a calendar slam" it was actually getting annoying to the point where he asked the journalists to please stop asking him.
