A message from Carole, Hannah and Jonathan Thorpe

Hello everyone,
We're sad to report that David passed away on Tuesday 25th. We have been very touched by all the lovely comments from KZreadrs who appreciated Dad's work, and knowledge of photography. This channel was his pride and joy over the past decade or so, and he spent many hours working on it, in the room from which I am writing to you now. He deeply appreciated such interest from his viewers and he never lost his enthusiasm for cameras, or for life. A last farewell video will be posted here within the next couple of weeks.
Thanks again to you all - it's wonderful for us to know how popular Dad was.
Carole, Hannah and Jonathan Thorpe

I have never posted a comment on KZread or social media in my life. I felt compelled to extend my thanks and appreciation for your wonderful videos: your knowledge, candour and humour will be sorely missed. God bless you David.

Oh David I'm so sorry. What an amazing contribution you've made to this world. We'll all be joining you sooner or later but very few of us will achieve what you have done. Thank you David Thorpe. Love to you and your family.

Wherever you go, David, whatever comes next, go with all our thanks and thoughts. You've made a positive impact on so many you've never actually met, I can only imagine how big it must have been on those you have. None of us can hope for more. It has been a delight and privilege to listen in to you, and to read the blog. Go well, and in peace.

I just bought an Olympus Em10 as my first camera. I’m only 24 and am now moving across the U.S. and wanted something better than just my phone. I found this channel and have been watching lots of videos that have been such a breath of fresh air compared to other photography channels. I’m very thankful a channel like this even exists for a beginner like me. It’ll help me and has already helped me so much. I found this video as I decided to sub and now I’m sad. Funny how I can cry over a man I never met. Funny how a man who never knew my name can lend a hand in my life without even knowing it. Rest in Peace.

I know it's been over two years, but I still miss his open and warm-hearted approach to photography. I remember when I reached out to him in the comment section to ask about his thoughts on which camera and lens I should buy, I was surprised he replied and fairly quickly even with a well-rounded answer.

One Gentleman I've never physically met but I felt extremely close to. I trusted his opinion and vision. My, my, my what a smooth, soothing voice. I found comfort in his softness. Condolences to his Family. What a Gentleman in a digital world of disingenuous pompous attitudes. He will sorely be missed.

Just now seeing this two years later. So sorry to hear about David. He was such a well of knowledge and this medium serves as his library. I never knew someone could make such poetry out of camera reviews. He will be dearly missed.

David you have been a voice of reason, clarity and humor among so many angry and sometimes pessimistic voices. Someone who really makes you appreciate the fun side of photography. Rest easy, I'm sure many of the people here will continue your work in some form or other. Thank you for everything.

I only recently learnt of David's passing from another KZreadr. His videos have been of great use for me as I was getting my first digital camera which was not only a hobby item but had to be a work tool for me as a designer. His clear and to the point videos were excellent and I am so grateful to his advice when the time came to upgrade. You could clearly hear the many years of experience coming into play in his observations and tests. He also had a lovely sense of humour and seemed like the sort of guy who would give his time and advice to anyone who asked for his help. My thoughts go to his family, who I trust can feel proud of his achievements and the community of people who he helped. RIP David Thorpe.

I just left a comment on another of his videos. I hope content producers will study that video and appreciate the gift David left us in all his internet content. I hope to meet you in the next phase of existence David. Keep smiling!
