Why?

I’ve been to Gaza years ago. It had beautiful beaches and coastal areas, somewhat like the beaches of southern California with palisades and dunes. Israel unilaterally left Gaza in 2005 and forcibly evicted 9,000 Israelis from 21 settlements in Gaza. They left behind clean modern housing and state of the art agricultural infrastructure; greenhouses, irrigation systems. What did the Gazans do? They set explosives off and destroyed all of it. With the tens of billions of dollars donated to Gaza since 2005 by sympathetic European, Gulf Arab countries and others Gaza could’ve developed a thriving, vibrant and green tourism economy. It could’ve been the Riviera of the eastern Mediterranean, perhaps another Singapore or Dubai. It certainly was a de facto Two State Solution and should've have been a test case for future conciliations between Israel and palestinians. Instead, they took the concrete meant for schools and hospitals and housing and used it to create a giant subterranean terror complex for the benefit of hamas and not even for the Gazans. They took the pipes meant for irrigation and turned them into Qassem rockets. The opposite of Isaiah’s prophecy. They worship death and the dark hopeless future they chose was of their own making. Not anyone else’s as the Gazans voted for Hamas. It didn’t have to be this way. Hopefully when Israel finishes with hamas the Gazans will make better choices for themselves and their children. Israel has no interest in remaining in Gaza but it will never again allow an existential threat to itself like what we’ve seen since Gaza elected hamas in 2007. I wonder if any of the Gazans look at the 3 foot high post apocalyptic pile of rubble that is now Gaza and think about the great country it could’ve been and if they actually contemplate such things think about the long string of horrible choices they without fail continue to make.

That would take self reflection. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a capacity for that. At least not en masse. I recently listened to Mosab Hassan Yousef in an interview with Jordan Peterson. He spoke about a time during, I think he said, the second Palestinian Intifada when a building in Gaza collapsed trapping a bunch of workers. They asked the Israelis to help get them out. Incredible that Gaza would ask Israel for help while shooting rockets into Israel, and that Israel helped. I thought Israel was supposed to be a monster? After rescuing the trapped people, as the Israeli fire fighters and soldiers left, the people of Gaza threw rocks and spat at them.

Ironically, Israel's decision to end the "occupation" of Gaza in 2005 and evict all the Jews led directly to Hamas' capability to launch this war. I doubt Israel will make that mistake again.

It's been nearly 8 months and if it were genocide, the death count would be in the millions, or even the hundreds of thousands, but it's not. The Israelis aren't trying to wipe out the Palestinian people. It's urban warfare and Hamas, like the cowards they are, hide among the civilians and use hospitals, mosques, and schools as bases to fire rockets. They've also lied about the actual death count, which isn't anything close to what they reported.

@@drok7461you can’t show us anywhere they are using children and women as human shields. If anyone is using anyone as a human shield it’s definitely the Israeli government who forces people to enlist in the IDF. And most are fighting back against that in Israel since October the 7th.
