I have suffered acute liver failure leading to acute multiple organ failure ( As a result of disease). This is no joke - it has a mortality rate of some 80%. I had a rare autoimmune condition at same time, (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis or HLH), undiagnosed, so my chances of surviving were about 0 and I had a doctor tell me in no uncertain terms that I was going to die in that hospital bed. After heroic efforts by so many people to keep me alive they determined I needed my spleen removed because my red & white cells and platelets were critically low and my spleen was about 8lb because it was keeping all the blood. I have been closer to death than nearly anyone alive to tell about it. Finding a surgeon was just one of many hurdles because they determined I was too critical and unstable to survive surgery. One surgeon agreed but then it was convincing anesthesiologists. It took a team of anesthesiologists to do a somewhat routine surgery. I was in a medically induced coma and on life support for quite a while. 6mo in an ICU bed, having to learn to walk again, multiple dvt/pe, still disabled as a result. Don't mess with medicine. Some may have a lot of play before serious injuries and some, like Tylenol, take 1 mistake to put you in danger. It's not worth your life or the difficulties it can permanently cause to get some likes online.

It wasn't really awful for me at the time because I was so heavily medicated. It was after I started to recover that fear really was a problem. Would I be discharged only to die after fighting so hard? After months in a nursing home at age 30 I made it home and PTSD hit - it's a process. I made it through for a reason and I try to make the most of every moment every day because they're all seemingly borrowed.

I knew a college girl who had terrible menstrual cramps, for which she took whatever OTC medicine she could get. Apparently she poured both acetaminophen and ibuprofen pills into a small bottle she kept in her purse. And whenever the pain got to be more than she could deal with, she took more pills. She wound up with liver damage that made her unable to keep down food for two weeks, until her liver recovered. Eventually she did recover her liver function. She eventually needed a hysterectomy for the endometriosis that had caused her period pain.

When I was newly an adult and at college for the first time, a new friend introduced me to drinking cough medicine. We used to robo-trip, and I had drunk a full bottle several times before. While I read that dextromethorphan isn't typically dangerous in larger doses in some medical journals, those other ingredients surely weren't great to overdose on. One time at a party, I got so messed up that time appeared to be wavering, slowing and speeding up. I freaked out and tried calling 911, but don't think I did, and wound up staring at the ever changing pattern on the wall all night trying to come down. My heart would typically beat at a high rate while sitting still for several hours into the next day. I decided to not do it again, and it's been decades since then. My health is pretty good, but man, I really wonder what hell I was causing inside when I was young. Don't do drugs, kids! Even if over-the-counter!

this is how i felt when i accidentally od’d on 10 mg of weed. i was high for 3 days straight i think, and i couldn’t tell what was real and what was not. i have a lot of mental health issues, and i had already struggled with problems relating to derealisation. i lived in a state where weed was legal, and in my high, i’d tried to call an ambulance but the person i was with wouldn’t let me so i had to sit, high as hell all night long. i think at one point i was in the bath tub, letting cold water run on me to help ground myself, and then i also wound up in the kitchen gagging real bad. 😭 so yeah, no drugs. drugs = bad i swore off weed forever after that incident

They're surprisingly safe and you can take quite a bit before you hit od territory. Same class as Valium, known as benzodiazepines. He also changes the ending sometimes, as he's said in other videos. But with all of that being said, yea, you could die from nyquil chicken or taking too much Acetaminophen in general.

It was a horrible experience where I lost control of my body (all my joints felt like they were made of jelly and I couldn't stop squirming on the floor) and had hallucinations. The very first symptom I remember was intense itching on the back of my neck. All of this lasted hours and hours and I remember just wanting it to be over as things just kept getting worse and my anxiety levels kept rising. I'm pretty sure it took 10 years off my liver. That was a one time lapse in judgement on my part that I really regret.

Just dropping by to tell that my mom passed away 2 months ago due to a terminal liver cancer. She was gradually getting less and less sane (mentally), but on the long run, she knew when she was saying gibberish. But when the time came that she didn't know anymore whether she was asleep or not and started losing her balance, I knew that this was brain damage happening, and that it was because of the high amounts of ammonia there. I knew that in her condition, this couldn't be helped, and to know that made me deal with the process so much better. My stepfather thought it was morphine overdose, but I knew it was her own body shutting down, and this made me calm, because I knew all I had to do was to relieve her pain and take her to her eternal rest in some comfort and without suffering. And I must thank you for all the videos, learning how the hyperammonemia shows signs and why it happens made it much better to cope with her condition and her passing. So, thank you, thank you and thank you again!!

Blessings to your departed mom and you. My dad passed a couple months ago, and hospice was wonderful in educating us in what to expect and what the typical natural processes were. The educational aspect of their care was primary in helping us, because then it felt like what dad was experiencing was to be expected and could be addressed. A significant component of a lot of trauma isn't the actual injury but rather the inability to assess and competently address what's happening. Again, the educational aspect is unbelievably helpful in processing and dealing with stuff. I've had sports injuries that have been on the extremes when it came to knowing what happened: the one where I received lots of actual "care" but very little explanation for what happened made me feel as if I'd been majorly under-served, whereas the one where I received very little care but lots of explanation and education empowered me and greatly reassured me.

@@sourgreendolly7685 well, not everyone is in it for the money, I can definitely imagine a fair share of the viewers are tied to/ want to be involved in medicine as its their passion. I always felt like I wanted to be a doctor, and they really aren't appreaciated too much in my country when it comes to pay or workhours for that matter. Just wanted to be someone I imagined myself as

I am really amazed at the knowledge accumulated in the medical field, and grateful that you're here to address and explain how toxicity isn't just as simple as "too much, flush it out or find an antidote", but is a complex can of worms that can spiral out of control and obscure the cause. Given the above, as a mechanic, I find diagnosis and repair of an issue can be daunting at times, even if the issue seemed trivial at first. I can only imagine that challenge with a biological system being many times more difficult, and I appreciate how you show us the surface and depth of what's involved and how important it is to be careful with our bodies.

Jesus Christ loves you! ♥️ word of truth ♥️ Ephesians 1 KJV 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 1 Corinthians 15 KJV 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 3 KJV 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; ♥️know♥️ 1 John 5 KJV 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Seriously, i love this channel for this reason. I always knew acetaminophen was toxic to the liver in high doses but never stopped to think what was actually happening. Had no idea it was just the main pathway being overwhelmed and the secondary's metabolites are super toxic. Also never knew about the backup plan to neutralize that metabolite and that's the really interesting part to me. I always assumed they just pumped your stomach and crossed their fingers that too much didn't get absorbed, but nope there's an antidote if you get them there quickly enough.

A really short way to describe these complex things: The body really likes to be stable (homeostasis), and has a number of systems designed to buffer against changes. When something goes beyond the limits of those homeostasis promoting systems, bad things happen.

Acetaminophen is very sinister in overdose situations. Once you reach a certain point, the damage is done and there's not much you can do, even if you're stabilized. I had a friend who tried to unalive himself as a teenager using acetaminophen. He lived, but then around five years later, he was found dead in his bedroom, due to issues directly resulting from his overdose many years before.
