"Finch" and "News of the World". Haven't seen "Otto" yet, but I can't wait!
I got to see this movie today with my family. It was really good. I was an extra in the film. I was in the opening scene at the hardware store. You see me two times in the scene. You first see me talking to the hardware store clerk before he goes to Otto with the rope then you see me a second time waiting in line. I was wearing a grey winter jacket with jeans. I got to do an internship on set while they were filming. The internship took place where they were filming scenes where Otto watches the kids over. Being an extra and doing internship was a fun experience. Marc Forster and Tom Hanks were kind people and it was nice to work with them. It’s something I’ll always look back on and be happy that I did it.

@@aliciabergman1252 Why did you cry. The movie was very predictable, even the ending.
I’ve read the book and watched the Swedish movie and both are some of my all time favorites. The book particularly because it’s a lot more detailed and made me cry and laugh so many times. I highly recommend it!!
Water Works at full force for me! 😭😭 Yesterday, I went to see this movie at the theater. It is once again, one of Tom Hanks' cup of tea. I highly recommend it! Walking in, I really didn't know what to expect. But as I watched, I quickly recognized in Tom Hanks, characteristics of a grumpy old boss I used to have, that became my good friend for 32 years. His name was Greg, may he rest in peace! Just about every detail of Otto's character was Greg! And so the movie took me on an emotional roller coaster through every scene that reminded me of him. There were so many, I had to constantly catch my tears with my popcorn napkin, before they reached the bottom of my cheeks. At the end of the movie, my friend asked me if I had liked it? And I was too emotional to attempt to answer. But as soon as we got to the car, I broke down crying as I related my experience with Greg's friendship and all the similarities between Otto and him. They even looked alike! I finalized my grief by sharing how sad it was for me to say our final goodbyes before he passed away. We talked to each other through facetime, while he was on his hospital bed, 775 miles away.🥺 And shortly after, he was gone. All sentimalism aside, I really enjoyed this movie. It is full of wonderful acting by both, Hanks and his amazing Mexican supporting actress, Mariana Treviño. It is a funny and oh so sweet movie. Oscar worthy performances from both! I encourage you to make a date, and go to your nearest theater and catch it. You will enjoy it, I am sure!
I agree that Tom’s movies over the past 10-15 years haven’t been stellar.. and this is a return to top form. The best Tom Hanks movies are the ones where you don’t feel like you’re watching “Tom Hanks” but rather Forrest.. or Andy etc. Those who say this movie was overly sentimental ..likely haven’t experienced much loss or depression etc.
I was pleasantly surprised because this movie was amazing ❤️ There was laughter and tears but most of all it was heartwarming. Tom Hanks and all the other actors gave wonderful performances. If you get the opportunity, definitely watch this movie, you won't be disappointed. Cheers 🥂
Went into this movie not knowing much and really enjoyed it. He was diagnosed as the same heart condition as i have which was kinda nice hearing about HCM in media
This movie was pretty good. I didn’t realize the flashback scenes starred his son as Young Otto.

Hi Austin, just want to say I LOVE your channel and your brilliant sense of humour, you are so professional and you really know your stuff. Thanx for making me smile and please keep it up.
The swedish one is so much better
The original is one of the greatest Swedish films of all time imo, strongly recommend it
Otto, it's really good to see you.
I saw the original, and I think some stuff is lost in translation. A Swedish grump is much more brutally blunt to begin with, as being asocial is much more prevalent there. It is less lashing out, but more stonewalling contempt for the rest of the world. Also, the falling apart from a friend works in the Swedish context, as the silent pride keeps both sides from even trying to mend the relationship. Otherwise, I think since Hanks himself saw the original and heralded it as a masterpiece, he remakes it with a sense of love and respect to at least try to make it justice.
the many subplots of the movie may be attributed to the original book as well because he does encounter a plethora of different characters, which may be better articulated in a book than a 2 hour movie
Otto, it’s good to see you!

Dear Mr. Burke, Thank you for your critique o A Man Called Otto.
I fully agree this was pretty cliché and after a while I definitely knew where all the plot beats were going to hit, I can't say it wasn't effective and made me cry a few times during the movie. I rated it 7/10

I agree, it wasnt very effective to me though. In my layman's perspective, I rate it 6/10.
So far, 2023 has been great. M3gan and Otto. Granted Otto is a 2022 release, but I just saw it today. I like the trailer, but had low expectation because many of the reviews said the original movie was much better. But like Austin, having not watched the original to compare, I really like this movie. Mariana Treviño was great as Marisol. Of course, she had an easier role as the comic to Tom Hanks' straight angry man. I would give it 8 of 10. I found the flashback telling confusing and interesting at the same time. The slow reveal helps the story, but I do wonder if it would still work if they told us the back story in the beginning. Really enjoy the movie even though it was much darker than I expected. I thought he was just an angry old man.
This was advertised, everywhere, I couldn’t escape it back then. Until it’s whole spotlight was shifted. The trailers were annoying, and the concept seemed familiar you to me, mostly because I didn’t know there were scenes of implications of wanting to commit suicide. Months after release, I finally checked it out when I was given the opportunity to watch on Netflix. Honestly, I was surprised, it was endearing. Otto’s character arc where he changes for the better was pretty good. And that ending… I mean I was semi-expecting it, and semi-not, but damn I can’t believe they actually had the balls. I would recommend, 10.5/10.
It is too sad! I cried from beginning to end! I will watch the original one, now.
Best bit was when he said 'My name is Otto, I love to get blotto'.
You're right Mariana Trevino did steal the show, she was super likeable. It felt genuine to me and it really did get to me by the end.
Tom hanks as “the grumpiest man alive” does that make him…Forest Grump? 😄
I haven't seen the first movie, but the book was great and I'm glad the film adaptation seems to do it justice.
This movie got me and my dad crying
I loved Marisol!
Based on your own review, it sure sounds like you would like the Swedish original better. No social media or clown plots - which I also thought looked unrealistic and over the top from the trailer.

I’m almost at a point where Tom hanks makes me not want to see a movie
The trailer looked like one of the worst trailers I’ve seen in a long time
Didn't even know it's a remake, but I enjoyed it for both the comedic and serious moments. It's a bit cheesy but heart warming. The actress for Marisol was very good. What took me out of the movie the most was the younger actor who played Tom hanks in the flashback. He doesn't seem that good of an actor, and also I know young Tom hanks didn't look like him at at all. Didn't know he was really tom hank's son either. Only knew Colin hanks from king kong

@@AustinBurke lol no wonder, I saw in the credits another hanks, didn't know that was his real son. But we've seen tom hanks in so many old movies, his son doesn't look like him here. @@brianng8350 yeah in retrospect Truman does have a bit of Tom hank's features especially his eyes. But his face and jaw is so wide he looks like buzz Lightyear lol. And in my mind young Tom hanks looked like in splash or Big. Deaging him wouldn't work either, they used make up in that one short scene. I guess it makes sense to use his son, but he doesn't seem to be that experienced yet

@@aoshi000 Hahaha... Buzz Lightyear... I can see that. But that is Tim Allen. His dad was Woody... hahaha... But we know how Tom Hanks looks like when he was a younger man from his Bosom Buddies days; deaging him by using his son definitely does not really work - different jawline/bone structure or frame from his father.

Watch the original with subtitles, it won "best foreign language movie" awards in 2015 and overcomes the cliché with its humor and darkness
After seeing the original 2015 Swedish film, I left feeling disappointed
I tried to force myself to watch this, twice. I only tried to watch it the second time because of the hype.
It's not a remake this is original movie it's a the book however is a man called of it's from the book it's not remake yes you have heard of it because it's the book is called a man called of and I didn't think the translation would be good for
This would be a decent movie if not for the original being far far better
I agree. I was moved by this movie and I even cried at the end. It did it's job, but I was annoyed by the flashbacks and the plot contrivances.
Tom Hank is a hack! the original is a a very fine movie worth a watch.
Gee I found the female neighbor (wife) super annoying! 😆
I didn't find this cheesy @ all. I think it's Christian based (funeral@ end). Otto is basically a decent person His love language is service. He always comes through & once he calms down he can be very understanding (transgender young man).
I think if you see the original you might be disappointment by this one.
why do a movie of a existing movie a man called ove, just to change actors and make it english, it was perfect as it was, and it is understandible you can even get subtitles no need to go all english on it, if you want it english that much should asked the actors if could dub it good
I thought the movie was rubbish, absolutely chock full of cliches and a far cry from Hanks’ best work. not trying to be super negative was looking forward to seeing the movie in theaters and went into it with an open mind but it’s not that good, save for the woman who played Marisol, she was good
