Even though it’s “just a chicken house “, you should still follow the basic grounding and bonding rules. 🙂 And use some strain relief connector where you enter a metal box. Protect your wire. I don’t see a ground wire anywhere. A metal box can become “hot” and without a ground the circuit won’t trip. It will use a chicken or a human for the ground if circumstances are set up. Wet floor is one of those circumstances. Be careful.

Wes, good job, mechanically. However, in addition to the strain relief purpose mentioned, those connectors protect against getting wear point problems from the sharp edges of the entry and exit holes for the wiring. A couple of data points: 1) Most ordinary wiring problems are from fires due to electricity going places it ain't supposed to. Example: the light creates heat at it's power supply, fastened at the back of the fixture. That requires the fixture to NOT be fastened against flammable material. Your decision to hang it on chains was exactly the right thing to do, never mind that you had other reasons. 2) The National Electrical Code does NOT apply to buildings, it applies to everywhere that electricity is used. Just because you put it in an outbuilding (chicken coop) doesn't exempt people from complying with it. You're exempt because you aren't found out about it, and you've done a good enough (safe) job that it doesn't expose you with something like a fire that gets a public agency involved. (In the USA, the NEC has the status of the law behind it everywhere.) 3) If you're going to do a DIY job, look up an electrician friend who can give you some background details as you go along.

Chickens don’t need to be warm they need to be dry and out of the wind. Don’t waist your time with heat. And they don’t like light after dark they will start to roost elsewhere if they can. Don’t ask me how I know. I came home one evening and looked into my coop to find only 4 chickens on the roost. Took a flash light and rounded up the other 20 from various places in the yard and put them back on the roost. Had to close the chicken run back up for a week to get them to stay on the roost at night. Finally figured it out they go to bed at dark regardless of whether there is a light on or not. Sooooo turn the light on in the morning and they will get up and start eating earlier and continue to lay all winter.

@@falllineridge A quick fix, if the try/do roost on top of the hanging fixture ..... take just enuf chicken wire, fold it in half (stay with me here) like a pup tent, put it up and over the beam the light is hanging from, then duct tape the chicken wire to the long sides of the light fixture. If there is a concern of them going inside the chicken wire tent, you could put triangles of the wire at the ends, but I wouldn't imagine that they would even be able to get inside the wire tent. Just a suggestion ...... unless you again try attaching the light to the beam like it was in the beginning.

I was thinking the same while he was attaching the chain. Not need to build another roost. He has one already with that light. Oops! If a chicken wants to get up there it will with no problem.

I didn't even think about that. I built them an extra roost today, so hopefully they'll avoid the light. If they do I'll deal with it.

I’d love to see some hunting videos ! Great video as always.
Mean chicken = chicken soup.
you should take one of your true 2 x 10 or bigger and groove the back so that the 2 x board can slide onto the bucket and make it a plow on the tractor.
Did you give up on the solar kiln . I finally got my lt15 wide after a year and four months waiting and was considering building a kiln like yours.
Yeah, some hunting footage would be cool. Be interesting to see if any chickens roost up on that light. lol

Good so far! I built them an extra roost today.
would love to watch your hunts!
Where you live you won't need any supplemental heat for the chickens. I have electricity in my coop and never use it. Mean chickens make good stew hens. I always like to see hunting. I killed a good 8 point today. Processing 50 chickens for a friend tomorrow and making venison sausage tomorrow evening. I see a big resemblance between you and your son when you are concentrating on work.
We would love to see you hunts!
Would love to see your hunts!
I'd love to see some hunting videos!
Yes, hunts please!
I should have waited to the end of the video to ask🤣🤣
I would definitely like to see your hunting videos.
Yes on the hunts.
Yes, please include hunt video, thank you very much!
That would be awesome
Using things you already have is called being a good steward of what God has entrusted you to!
That hen was pissed off because you had that DAMN LIGHT ON!!! They get used to day/night just like you and can't sleep with the light on. That outlet in the house was OK and convenient for later, That light was at best UNNECESSARY!!!!!
Yessir let’s see some deer hunting! Love the channel
Yes would like to see you deer hunts.

Yes, please include your hunts in your videos.
Great job, brother !! Small suggestion: change the fluorescent tubes from 'Bright White' to 'Warm White', they're just not so bright, if you think that's necessary.....?

That would probably be helpful, but this is an LED fixture. No bulb to change out.
I have my roosts all at the same hight and some 2 foot from each other. So there is no dominance fighting.
