    Starcraft didn't use QWER hotkeys. Not till more recently anyway, and even then it's not the default. Also, the term is "grid hotkeys".

    The current solution to being able to look at your base while fighting is control grouping your buildings. You haven't got a good try at this because CnC is worse about it than say SC/WC.

    High macro low micro: AoE, CnC, RA, BFME Low macro high micro: Warcraft High macro and micro aka 5D chess: Starcraft

    I guess for me the micro problem relies almost entirely on un-realism. Your omniscient hivemind style control scheme makes no sense realism wise, reduces things to APM, etc. Even with Paradox games I have the same problem. You can't execute interesting battle plans in GSG games because armies ping-pong back and forth all over the map, both moving too fast and also having info about enemy troop movements they couldn't plausibly have. Turn based games are way better. And turn based games could do even more with information obfuscation and delegation systems. Although none of them really seem to do that.

    APM is just one part of the know-how. It won't save you if you lack a plan or adequate game knowledge.

    @@HighLanderPonyYT APM is a classic example of "necessary but not sufficient" sure. But it is necessary. I prefer TBS for that reason. No one is saying APM is the only thing that matters in RTS games.
