“A Lot Of Politics Going On!” Muslim Pupil Challenges UK’s Strictest School In Court Over Prayer Ban
Reversing a school’s “emergency” provoked decision to ban prayer rituals would again expose it to “an unacceptable risk of threats”, the High Court has been told.
Michaela Community School in Brent, north London, argues allowing such practices risks “undermining inclusion and social cohesion between pupils”, with its ban coming after a “vitriolic campaign of abuse, harassment and threats” against staff.
The high-achieving free school, previously dubbed Britain’s strictest, is facing a legal challenge from a Muslim student who claims its approach to prayer on the premises is discriminatory and “uniquely” affects her faith due to its ritualised nature.
The pupil, who cannot be named for legal reasons, alleges the school’s stance on prayer - one of the five pillars of Islam - was “the kind of discrimination which makes religious minorities feel alienated from society”, a judge was told.
But the school’s lawyers claim its policy was “justified” and “proportionate” after it faced death and bomb threats linked to religious observance on site.
TalkTV’s Vanessa Feltz discusses the story with TalkTV international editor Isabel Oakeshott and the Centre for Education and Youth’s Baz Ramaiah.

Should Michaela have to offer a chapel for Christian students, a synagogue type area for Jewish students, a temple type area for Hindus and Buddhists students etc etc? You accommodate one religion, you need to accommodate every religion. A school's job is to educate. KB, stay strong! You are doing right by your students.

@ChristiansUnited-qv5is I think that you are very confused, you don't seem to be saying things which make any sense. How is a synagogue a political institution? It is a religious church for Jewish people, it is not political, they are not a political group, that is ridiculously stupid. They are very well integrated in society, and have always been, anywhere in the world. The same can't be said about Muslims and mosques.

This non negotiable prayer came first above all else. Quran 51:56 I did not create jinn and humans except to worship Me Therefore it's not difficult to ask for a prayer room..if others putt education first we are different ,we need to respect each other. And no judge what others want to do. . remember we are not all the same beliefs.
If you do not like the rules go to another school, this is the problem with fundamentalist dogma especially Islam, a school is about education not religious indoctrination. If you want to go to a Muslim school then go, in the west we have a separation of church and state, the religion is not the state (Sharia law) we don't do that here, if you don't like you have the freedom to leave the country.

Yes. You can't separate education and religion. What you believe to be a secular religion is just another religion. That is the religion of secularism and liberalism. There is no such thing as neutrality. Call me forward-thinking, but I believe the British public will soon catch up and revert to Catholicism as this was the religion that built our country, its institutions and the educational capital that we are still living off (albeit we are about to run out). Only through the Christian faith can Britain restore its culture and rebuild.

This nonsense must stop! Her school is superior to most others and we need more people like her. If the parents don’t want this they should take their children elsewhere. The pressure Muslims are using to change Britain must be resisted. Baz Ramaiah is exactly the sort of person me must oppose. When the Muslim faith accepts gay people and allows women greater freedom I might start respecting them more. What sort of faith encourages such prejudice and world-wide dissension.
This is their modus operandi - they commit to things that meet their own immediate needs and then set about to change all the rules to suit themselves and their ideology - Judge Judy would dismiss this case as being out of the four square corners of the contract!

Going to high court. How pathetic this country is.
This school is not a non faith establishment for the reason that it wants to be all inclusive. By challenging this ruling and saying it is discrimination that your child cannot pray there then you have effectively turned an all inclusive school into a non inclusive one as it prioritises the needs of one group over another. If your child wants to be able to pray during the day then send them to a faith school.
"Some of my fondest memories from school are seeing pupils in the prayer room." And of course from there on to the mosques and the ranting anti-western Mullahs. Brilliant.

Having lived in Turkey for a part of my life & Turkey being also a secular state . The only thing there is that 90% + of the people are islamic and less than 10% christian. The reverse of the situation in the uk . In a school there you do not see the children stopping 5 times a day to pray . When you hear the call to prayer and you sit near a house of prayer most people just keep on working . My thinking is that the islamic people in the uk should take note of this
