No there is not too many characters youarea sjwthat loves corrupting great content like ff7 and turning it into generic action trash. You clearly hate turn based rpgs and we're hoping for less content , changed gameplay and a garbage episodic content like ff15 cough sorry ff7remake which you loved. Why don't they just turn Chrono trigger into a fps or survival horror? Bet you would love that! I wish final fantasy would be turn based again with the great graphics kind of like lost odessy.... The best part of this remaster is that it makes the game legally playable in Europe! I got my hands on it several years ago on my chipped PS2 and played I think more than halfway and LOVED the music and art, but actually got overwhelmed by all the different characters. Finally I found myself using too many of them to the point that I was severely underleveled, and dropped the game. Now my PS2 is dead and buried, but I haven´t been able to stop thinking about this game - and here they make a remaster! :-)

Under leveled? This game caps how much you can level pretty aggressively until you move on to the next zone so you cant actually do all that much leveling. It made a certain boss battle an infamous nightmare xD

they censored the dialogue they got rid of a lot of gender language because words like ladylike are apparently offensive, they even changed the dialogue in Japanese "because American sensibilities". The ethics department found the game sexist.

This game's soundtrack is one of the all-time greats -- we're talkin' Top3 GOAT easy. An ABSOLUTE hidden gem.

Scars of Time, The Girl Who Stole The Stars, Prisioners of Fate and Nikki's Concert are amongst my favorite tracks of all time. Its just incredible.

most reviewers are complaining about the features that made CX great. Its like they expect the game to not be an RPG or unique. Sometimes it seems like every game has to be CoD. Ty for a real review. GG.

Fun fact: Square Enix's top three games on Metacritic are all PS1 games, and were all released within months of each other in 2000 in North America: 1. Final Fantasy 9 2. Chrono Cross 3. Vagrant Story So now, I'm really hoping Square Enix gets around to bringing back Vagrant Story! Personally, I think it would benefit hugely from a remake. I mean.. many Vagrant Story fans can see all the similarities between it and the Souls games, so imagine a Vagrant Story remake with a reworked combat system that takes some inspiration from the Souls series!!

I think I rather keep that game in my memories and not see a remake. I enjoyed the combat and all while I played it and I spend HOURS building up my weapons with a turbo controller but, I would need some functionality to mimic a turbo controller on my switch because it's impossible to sit down for hours killing a training dummy.

We don't got the time to play video games all day 24/7 dreamcastguy. So making the grind easier is great for us. We got school and work bro these will make us happy

The 1st time I played It was different but in a good way. After playing for the 2nd and third time love it understood the field magic and started loving it and got all characters after finishing it for a 3rd time

So I watched another video that said the frame rate is worse than the original ps1 version. Is it like this? 10fps in some battles? I wanted to pick it up on Xbox because that is what I have. I don't want it to run like Dog S

does anyone definitively know if this version fixed the pip save glitch? I'd presume so based on what originally caused it, but I haven't heard anyone look into it. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, a certain party member's element grid was glitched to not grow properly if you ever turned off or reset the game.

I love the turnbased battlesystems in these game, so the auto mode makes no sense to me. Looking forward to play this game again.

This is a true gem, so happy it got a remaster. The music is incredible. But I've had a lot of really bad frame rate issues on PS5, most in combat, but dungeons/cities also.

I’ve been playing on switch and have hella frame rate issues esp if the background moves or has too much going on

I think a problem with some KZreadrs is when they want a game to be like something else they like. Small tehnical stuff aside there's nothing wrong with this release. Loved the game back in the day and will support this. Hope more ps1 titles get ported to modern consoles and pc.

Yep, I played through multiple times and made it a point to have a different party each time to get a different experience.

I played this game when I was in middle school and it completely rocked my world! I had no idea there were so many endings! Haha I’m so excited to play this game again; thanks for the review! 🙌🙌

I never had a problems with all the 44 characters, I even had collected all 44 characters in the past and beaten all ending back then and when ever I buy the remaster now I will do it all over again. I love everything about this game, mostly the music. Now I just pray and hope they will remaster more PS1 games like The Legend of Dragoons.

This game was before his time and other games even now. 44 playable characters means how much they put effort to make it work, in that time even now with story and design. This game shows how to make a game with a passion. Pure masterpiece. There is no game like this one, from battle system to story and design. Its one of its kind. This Game changed my view on life in my childhood. And I'm more grateful as never before. ❤️

I absolutely adore this game even if the plot can get hard to follow towards the end. I play it on the original PS1 once each year and never get sick of it. So happy to see more people getting to experience this gem

I love how you mention the weird talking dog, because one of my first reactions was "why tf do they have the dog on the box art??" It would've been the perfect box art, but they just had to add the dog lmao. But anyway, I absolutely love that they did this remaster! They didn't screw up the models or character art, or redo the music (it truly doesn't need it), also, I don't think I've ever seen the option where you can switch to the low resolution original?! I'd be happy if all remasters did this. Not just to let us old fans feel like we went back in time, but to show people not from that time what the difference is, how games looked back in the day. I love that!

My friend bought this on Steam and he said this supposed remaster is crap. It's literally just an emulator with a change to certain character images in cutscenes. You could basically already get this for free using the Duckstation PS1 emulator. Apparently you could even get more options on the Duckstation version. The game doesn't even play at 16:9

Square doesn't own the story so it will never happen. The writer left the company on bad terms with them and due to Japanese law they own the story, not Square. Its why Chrono Cross is not a direct sequel.

Chrono cross is THE BEST Square soft/ Enix game ever produced for the PS1 era. I don't care what anyone says. It's better then any of the mainstream games guarenteed. I played chrono cross back when it fist came out and even back then I held this opinion. But I've been demanding this remaster from square since the started hd ports. And even now it's still way better though all square games are gems. Chrono Cross is just the best.

While I do see your point about having an auto battle mechanic and being able to turn off encounters, I think it’s something that’ll help with multiple playthroughs and speed runs.

No xenogears no chrono cross no chronotrigger no final fantasy tactics (glad I pirated that one as it’s a fave did buy it proper on the psp when it finally came out) weird seeing as they were already translated into English. Yay! Chrono Cross! Love this freaking game! Great video, but I don't agree about the characters. The more the merrier! It allows you to tailor your party and story to your liking. Heck 44 is tiny compared to other legends of the era like Suikoden! So happy they re-released this. Now please give us a sequel!

Nice review. I am currently playing on the Switch in handheld mode and I don’t think the frame rate out of battle is too bad. However, as soon as I’m in battle, I speed up the game so that it takes less time because battle frame rate is atrocious. As for the new character models and brushed up backgrounds, I think they look OK!! What’s most important is that the game is still FUN to play (though I totally forgot how easy it is - as a 14 year old I always felt like I had to cast an element. Now I attack, switch characters, attack more, THEN cast.

Dreamcrack guy back at it again with another video

a guide on google says there's 45 characters in chrono cross total and can only be obtained completely on 3rd playthrough. i played the heck out of chrono cross on ps1 but i only got a handfull of characters, i dont even remember the story now. that lynx/serge mixup/switchup is still mind boggling to me. being non native in english, i dont fully understand the story/stories...

How is it they can make Hyrule Warriors 60fps but they are stuck at 30-45 FPS in games like this? It does not seem like there is too much happening on screen at the same time.

I am tempted to get this but at the same time I currently have Elden Ring and have plenty to do in that still, I haven't beat or even gotten to Godrick yet lol (Though I do think I am right at that point) So yeah I have plenty of games as it is to keep me busy and by now there are more modern RPGs that I can enjoy instead that I could buy, I never finished Persona 5 for example, wouldn't that not be a better game to play? I never have played any of the Chrono games though so I am certainly tempted, especially as I do like Time Travel/Alternate reality stories a lot so I think I will get this eventually, I just am not sure if the timing is right for right now.

I’m sure he’s played Suikoden and 2 if not more but he is kinda right. Chrono Cross had characters that didn’t really bring anything where Suikoden they brought elements to your castle. Still funny though. Also I still love Chrono Cross too.

Since they remade this game, which is cool and all, they should have also remade Chrono Trigger and sold them in one compilation cart or download for those that haven't played Chrono Trigger yet. Maybe it's just me, but if I see a sequel to a game first I then try to find the first one first because if I can't find the first one I won't get the sequel until I've played the first. Luckily I still have my SNES and Chrono Trigger and since it's been years since I've played that game, I will ho through it again first before Chrono Cross on Switch. I don't have Cross on SNES so I never got to play it back in the day. I wish Nintendo would release Chrono Trigger on SNES Switch so I wouldn't have to drag my SNES and CRT TV out to play Trigger but I will. What you call your detriment in Cross is what I call fun! The more characters to find and be able to use makes the game more worth while. The more there is to do in a game and the longer it takes to finish the more bang for my buck I got. Now I know I made the right purchase. Just have to finish Trigger again first.

44 characters isn’t too much, it’s that such a high volume of them suck and feel pointless. Look at Suikoden 1 and 2’s 108 characters each - it doesn’t feel like too many, and it feels like almost all of them have a point, an important place in the story, and an important place on your team (as they take up residence and roles).

I remember game reviews back in the day giving this game a 10/10. I was newer to the jrpg scene only played maybe 5 of them my first jrpg was Parasite Eve(came with the FF8 demo) so then of course I bought or shall I say my parents since I was 11. FF8, 7 and 9 was the order I played those then came chrono cross. And holy sh*t it was amazing. I'm so happy I get to play it again. Now there just needs to be remaster of Parasite Eve, not the crappy sequels. That game was amazing to me as well. Then we need a remaster of the legend of dragoon. I have higher hopes for Parasite eve being remastered since it's a squaresoft/enix title and TLOD is a sony rpg I'm not sure it did that well or not but I along with many others love it. So we just need those remasters and my most loved rpgs during my childhood will come full circle. Since I'm still playing elden ring been on ng+ and I don't plan on stopping. I'm happy I can mix it up with CC. Alright I'm just going on and on now. Apologies, my old a$$ is just feeling nostalgic af. Anyway, hope you and anyone who reads this have a great day. 🙂

For me it does, i absolutely love early 3d aesthetic, much more than refined 2D redone for the nth time, that does add little to the experience compared to the original, like the pixel remasters

@@Wsquared43 Neither of those has anything to do with the story. They do own the rights and can rerelease the game because of it, but they can't use the characters or anything from the story. A remake would be a new project so it wouldn't be possible. This has been a thing since Chrono Cross first came out and there was a lot of talk about it back in the day.

I played this on the Vita And I enjoyed it. I just didn’t finish it I thought it was a cool game. My one gripe was the Encounter rate. What I get it? I’m trying to decide right now but all the reviews are all over the place.

I was so excited when I heard this was coming out! I thought it was yesterday! But, the frame rate issues in the game really take me out of it. Honestly, they make me sick to my stomach, so I really can’t play it for too long when I sit down to do it. I really hope there’s a patch for this. It really messes up my experience with the game

I don't know if the game is good or not (objectively speaking), but I do know that it makes me feel all kinds of feelings 'cause it was part of my early teen years and it brings me fond memories. I love it and I can't for the life of me criticize it.

i haven't played this game in like 20 years... but the graphics here look pretty much the same as i remember. i dont think they improved the graphics THAT much... still, i have fond memories of this game... very tempted to pick this up.

Dragon Quest 6 also did the two worlds thing, probably more thoroughly than Chrono Cross. You might like that one. The downside to 6 is that, while the concept is interesting, this is the first DQ game that waffles in the story. But if 7 or 8 didn’t bother you, then this one should be fine. What I mean by waffling is the stories were fairly barebones in the earliest two games, and then 3-5 added more and more meat on. But 6 is where they crossed a line and went from having a satisfying amount of story to feeling bloated, 7 and 8 just got worse - 7 might have been the worst of the bunch, though, 8 was just slower paced hours upon hours upon hours chasing Dull Magus. Sorry, I know this game has fans because of its charming presentation, and I don’t want to upset them, but you also know the story criticism is true :) Story is just one element of DQ, and maybe not the most important one most of the time - DQ5 might be the only one where story dominates the experience. But if you like/love DQ7 (and 8) and you like the dual worlds part of Chrono Cross with different people leading different lives (sometimes vastly different), then you will absolutely love Dragon Quest 6.

I hope someone will have a remake of "Legend of Legaia. "

The soundtrack alone is top 3 imo along with ff7 ,love this game

40+ characters is too much? Nobody tell him about the Suikoden games 😱

I already have this on my PS Vita because of the PlayStation Network, probably for 10 dollars. Can’t really remember, but it definitely wasn’t more. I know this is only 20 dollars, but I still wonder if I should bother.

Suikoden doesn't think there's enough playable characters in this game.

I loved this game growing up, but it can go from being an enjoyable experience to an rng nightmare at the drop of a hat.

These two may not be closely related but everyone is saying the same thing is a major drawback of Eiyuden Chronicles Hundred Heroes Rising. I am going to play it since it is on Game Pass but people are saying there are way too many characters to care about and most of them have one short side quest before they join your party and they never talk or are taken into consideration again. Then there is the complaint of how hard it is to form a party and it usually happens through a guide rather than naturally. Anyway I completed Chrono Cross as a kid and never knew it had so many endings or characters. Did the old version have the same amount of endings and characters?

I enjoyed Chrono Cross, but I was a bit against some aspects like -true end requiring a guide -high encounter rate -strange leveling system

Although as explained this remaster has the ability to turn off random encounters whenever u like so there is that

@@Eviltwin1 What random encounters? like Chrono Trigger, you can see the enemies on screen. I know it has the ability to turn them off, but unlike FF games, I don't see the point on this one.

I didn't have a guide when I first played this game. The game provided hints to beating thr final boss for the true ending. The most difficult part for me was trying to get 1 character.
