A Little Fly Fishing on the Feather River (Middle Fork)

I had a decent morning fishing with jigs on the river so I decided to squeeze in an hour with my Fly Rod for KZread.

Fun time out there. I like fishing that section of river when the high's are in the low 40's and it's around freezing when I start in the morning. I just wanted to squeeze this day of fishing in because I ran into the river being flooded out and stained several times this past Winter, going into early Spring. When I say Spring I mean calendar Spring. Early Spring felt a lot like Winter this year!

Right! I focus on mastering a few things rather than trying to figure what to use out of a large selection of possibilities. I used to get lost in a large selection of things and it's tough to keep track of what's effective, when, and why. If something I am using isn't effective now, I just vary the presentation. If it's jigs, I have a lot of presentation options. I got some tricks up my sleeve when I'm fishing nymphs as well. Same with spinners and Rapalas. That just about covers it for me!

It's warming quick and I think it's about to start getting straight up hot soon. I was on the Truckee this morning for my Patreon and that river is really high and raging. It's as high as I've ever fished it.

That fly looks like a stone fly lure. Those work really well in the truckee for big browns 🎉

I usually get my eating fish out of lakes and reservoirs. Personally, I'd rather catch these rainbows later when they are bigger rather than know what they taste like. All this talk about eating rainbows makes me think about fishing Lake Tahoe!

Thank you for the video Amani. I was wondering what a "strike indicator" is?

Strike indicator is something on the leader that floats and if it goes down like a bobber it shows a strike. They come in a variety of styles and sizes.

You wouldn't like my job. I finally dropped down to 30 hours a week in a very physical job. For the first 4 years of my channel I worked full time, 10-12 hour shifts depending on where it was. I needed work where I wouldn't need to be reached or think about work on my days off. By working the longer shifts, it gave me three days to create content. A lot of driving, hiking, fishing, and processing content in three days a week and working long, difficult hours the other 4. On top of that, I lift weights and carry out a lot of physical training 5-6 days a week, often before or after work when I am dead tired, to stay in shape to do this. I run on exhaustion but the light at the end of the tunnel is I am getting close to being able to scrape out a living doing this full time. Check out my video "anatomy of my Eastern Sierra trips" on my variety playlist. That will give you an idea of how I built up so much content in a short period of time. It kills me when people suggest "I'm lucky to do this". I'm lucky because I have grown to love making content and interacting with my viewers. If I make it to doing this full time between my Patreon and KZread channel, it will be achieving an awesome dream but luck has nothing to do with it. Keep watching and you'll see if I make it or not!

It could be. I've got a few different responses. All I know is it seems to work so it might show up in the starting lineup from time to time. Right now it's still a secret weapon!

Right on. The action was solid. I like to fish there when it's cold but I wanted to try one more time before Summer because I showed up here a couple of times this Winter and it was heavily stained and I couldn't really fish effectively. Now I'm satisfied until November.
