Yeah, this is one of the rare tracks where Neil didn’t pen the lyrics. The ending guitar work was interesting and I feel like they could of have gone longer and not ended so abruptly, but for what it is, it’s yet another great song from a perfect album.

Wow Dave, you really nailed it! That is exactly what I get from this song too. BTW, Entre nous may be my favorite song from this album, and definitely Top ten for Rush songs. You have not reviewed Enter Nous - John was mistaken.

One of my favorite lyric lines in all of Rush-dom: "Making arrows out of pointed words, giant killers at the call." Geddy's a damn good lyricist, too.

Great song, exactly there was limited time on vinyl records back in the day, I'm sure they would have liked to extend this one, I know I would have like them to. The song reminds me of Tears from 2112, also written by Geddy. Great reaction guys.

Welcome back fellas! Great song. You can hear the extended Alex outro solo at Mita's Rush Oddities, along with many other cool Rush studio and live gems (and a few live train wrecks). The site was defunct for a long time but is back now. Cheers and keep 'em coming.

Paraphrasing the movie " Poltergeist " : THEY'RE BAAAAAAAACK!!! As to the song: it's a Rush deep cut, of course it is great

Yay, Dave finally got out of that Mexican jail. I told you he would love the length of this song. I always felt this was a song about Geddy and Alex's friendship, I could see Alex slaying Geddy's bully dragon. And how they both have their own lives and yet they're so close because of their music and they play different types of string instruments.

First off, WELCOME BACK! I've missed you. This is as close to a love song as Rush ever got. As I have aged, and my wife and I have grown together, the song becomes more relevant. Once again, great review. Keep it coming, please.

Rush never went for the giddy kind of "love is all you need" sort of love song. Theirs were always more about the give and take between men and women. Panacea, Tears, Madrigal, Entre Nous, Ghost Of A Chance, Vital Signs...

Welcome back guys! Yes, this song was penned by Geddy Lee. It is a gorgeous song that I imagine is dedicated to his wife. I am another one that wishes that outtrow was longer. Argh! Did you do Entre Nous? Cheers 🇨🇦

@@LiteralistReactions It's a funny song and admittedly goofy. :) I think some of the lyrics are rather interesting and pointed, "Once we loved the flowers, now we ask the price of the land..."

I always felt this song was a leftover from Hemispheres. Just seems like it would have belongs better on that album. This is what happens when you get into the doghouse with your significant other you write her a song.😂

Welcome back. Missed you both. Think you are spot on with your reading of the lyrics. Always felt it was a positive song recognizing your past should inform, not destroy, your present and future. Permanent Waves is my favorite too Jon. Also forget CD’s. If I was willing to part with it, I would send you my VINYL copy. But. . . I’m not going to do that. Nothing personal, just one of the albums I won’t let go of. ☮💟

This is an absolutely beautiful song. The only complaint I have is the guitar solo at the end. Fades out much too quickly. The song could’ve been two more minutes longer at least.

I believe this song is generally about the differences that separate each of us from one another. More in broad terms than any specific reason. You mentioned your idea of what is "standard" of Rush. The word standard doesn't fit within a conversation about Rush. The lyrics in this song were actually written by Geddy Lee, the singer/bass/keyboard player. Pretty much every other song, the lyrics are written by, Neil Peart, the drummer.

Or Tears. While a lot of Rush fans dump on Tears, I really enjoy it. It was another example of how many of the bands of the 60’s to the 80’s weren’t as locked into a “sound” that the record companies demanded.
