A LEGEND Reborn- Daiwa BG REEL Review (BEST Saltwater Spinning Reel)
Спорт
In this Tackle Tuesday I review the Daiwa BG series of spinning reels, which have become legends in the fishing industry. This series of reels was first introduced in 1981 and lives on to this day 35 years later. The BG series is relatively cheap and affordable and one of the best saltwater spinning reels I have ever used inshore and offshore. With a wide range of sizes, from big game to ultralight, this series offers something for everyone, from surf (Beach) fishing, to offshore fishing and even light tackle inshore fishing. Here is a breakdown REEL Review by alan hawk. bit.ly/2veyhAk.

I've been researching so many reels. And you have just completely convinced me on this reel. Thanks for the video!
First time on this channel. This guy is great. He is knowledgeable, concise, and enthusiastic. One of the best fishing channels I've come across!
I just picked this reel up. Can't wait to try it out!
Really appreciate your thoughtful, objective, data-based review!
Nice, I just ordered a BG 5000 to pair with my 10' St Croix Triumph rod for surf fishing for Stripers.
I use the BG6500 for monster catfish on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and they haven't let me down yet.
Ive been using the new bg's on the charter boat i run for over a year now in the gulf and have not had one issue yet! Everything from grouper to kingfish, aj's, snapper, sharks, ect... i even bought one for myself because i was soo impressed!

Very nice reel. Equally nice review Vic! Great job!
Got my BG 4500 with my two piece Tica Surf Rod............my absolute favorite combo! Next up Penn Rampage Rod/BG 5000. Fuego for under 200. 🔥🔥
Thank you for the information about this Daiwa
Great review can't go wrong with the BG
Because of you, I just bought this amazing reel!!!
Cheers mate, Its a kind of reel i've been after.
Great video. I'm not looking for a new reel but very good insight and you made a great point about charter captains cause they are working on not very high salaries so they need the best quality gear for affordable prices in glad you mentioned that. Keep up the great work.
I totally agree: It`s an absolutely awesome reel. Considering the pricepoint on one hand and the value in quality and durability you get on the other hand it`s just incredible.
Great video, mate. Thanks for sharing!
Nice vid bro i might actually grab one of those reels
You convinced me to get one and it is the best reel I own.
Great video going to buy one this week
I have been using my trusty BG 60 since the mid 80's and it has never let me down. I now have two spare spools with different line classes depending on what I am fishing for. For me the only issue was a line holder so, on one spool I have drilled a small hole in the lip and on the others I have a 1/2" piece of elastic cloth that I have sown. Very interested is seeing these new reels in the flesh.
..got a 4000...and when i put it against my saltigas and expedition it looks almost as pretty.... great thorough review bro!!! Just subscribed
Nice fishing room.
I have a BG 4500 for last 4 years. Love it. I recently landed a 6’ blacktip with it. Wasn’t worried about the drag at all. More worried about the leader! Lately I wanted a bigger reel and got the BG 5000 and now I have a couple great beach surf reels and I am very happy. My wife is happy because the 4500 is now her go to and we scrapped her old cheap Walmart reel and she loves the SMOOTH action on the 4500.

Great reels! But awfully heavy
dude, like legit i just got the older bg90 sunday and it is so freaking smooth and its a very strong reel
Nothing against the reel, I love mine with a passion, but I wouldn’t recommend people treating it like a Van Staal. It doesn’t have corrosion resistant bearings in it and it doesn’t have Daiwa’s seals like a Saltist so if you do dunk it and reel it underwater like that I highly highly recommend taking it apart, spraying some solvent in there to clean it out, and adding new grease and oil. It’s just not designed to be dunked like that so I hope people don’t think it’ll last very long if treated like a fully sealed reel!

For a Vs yes but youCan buy 8 or 9 of these for the price of one van staal. Have fun and use the darn reel and fish baby. No need to baby it
Youre such a positive guy, props!!
Great review! I love my BG. I was just comparing it to my Penn Battle II reel. Both of them perform well, and are in the same price range. I was hung up on which reel to buy next, but I think I'm going to order another BG from Amazon.
It works great for me the last 2years catching them by the hundreds Was really impress
that's going to be my next buy thanks for the info

How was it?
For the pasted 10 years I've owned and have been surf fishing using Penn reels and had nothing but problems with them and they're not smooth NIB or otherwise. I recently purchased a new BG 4000 and I'm blown away by what a pleasure it is to fish with this reel !! I can't believe how smooth and effortless the retrieve is on this reel and the gears are as smooth as glass. Yes ! The Daiwa BG IS DURABLE AND SIMPLISTIC & MAINTAINABLE !!!!!!!! I viewed the mechanical breakdown of this BG reel on Tackle Advisors the pinon gear is seated and reinforced with a ball bearing inside the housing of the reel & the crosswind gear is seated and reinforced on a ball bearing and the gears are reinforced two with stabilizer bars, no other reel company puts a reel out there like this for such a low price as the BG. Don't be fooled by the price tag because as inexpensive as this reel is Daiwa didn't cut any corners building these BG reels and they're not a cheaply designed product, this reel could have easily been three times the price that Daiwa is asking for, and no reel company on the market can sell a reel like this with such a low price tag attached to it ! This new Daiwa BG spinning reel a quality mechanically crafted marvel. My next two reels will be the BG 5000 & 4500 reels when I fish the ocean on the surf this fall.

I got the Black Gold 4500 because of the twin anti reverse. It's smooth. You get plastic body if you buy Shimano of the same price and single anti reverse bearing can get destroy by big fish. The old BG is a cult favourite. But wobble. The famous copy is Banax SX( Korean made ) series. Very good detail. Better than Shimano. Cannot better than Daiwa, coz it's a Dauwa BG copy. A cult favourite too. So robust that almost every fishermen in Malaysia have them !!!
Very nice reel, I have the BG 4000 and the Penn Battle II 4000, and they both are incredible reels
Good review. First use of BG8000 this morning. First manual bail I've ever had, you get used to it. Robust. Great to use.
I got this one. But the best is the BG MAGSEALED ! Sold out in my country !
do a rod and reel arsenal
Daiwa is best. I have had my 7000C since the 80's. Works perfect. I have all different brands but the Daiwa's last the longest and the drag is always smooth year after year.
love tackle Tuesday
Thanks for the review man! I'm new to this saltwater fishing. Been looking for a new reel. Was between this and a spinfisher. Only fished from piers. Ready to go down to the surf for bigger sharks and whatever else I can hook into. Can you do a video on what is the best type of braid and rod for this reel?
The Japanese Shimano models (Stradic SW - 2018) are by far the best reels in my opinion but bang for the buck, the BG is where its at. Personally, I kayak fish and all of my reels are always getting blasted by surf. Both these reels have stood up well with a simple freshwater wash from the get go.
Enjoyed it...Mahalo and Aloha from the Big Isle"🤙"
On a tackle Tuesday maybe you could show the after fishing process of cleaning and storing rods and reels and talk about and show maintenance like oiling and things for those of us that are not quite so experienced.
thanks this video really helps out
good video keep up the good work
I have the magsealed version and it's amazing how such a budget reel pack a punch.

Got this one. The BG MAGSEALED 5000 sold out in my country
Hey nice informative video for young and old thanks.I would love to see you nail a big tarpon from the beach.
BG is a killer especially from a boat. Ranks easily with the Penn Battle. Do you fish beaches or flats? The Daiwa SS Tournament series has no equal until you spend 4-6 times more money. Around $100.00 new in four sizes. A surf and flats equivalent to the BG. No reel is tougher but it outcasts everything until you spend $500.00 plus. Drag is fantastic. I have used it alot on bones, tarpon , Permit and even some sails. Add smoothies if you chase pelagic fish. Again, my clients can't break it. Really a fantastic review and you make some important points about how much performance you can get at a reasonable price. Cheers!
You should do a rod and reel arsenal

Great point on bringing up amazon, got my saltiga 5 500 for 840. over 100 bucks off normal price
Excellent review, I have friends that I surf fish with and have no complaint about this new BG reel and for the price you can't go wrong. I've read comments in response to your review relating to the Penn Battle series reels that have grinding gears and failed after catching one fish. I caught over 50 Bluefish in one outing alone in less than 2 hrs and probably caught over 1000 Bluefish this past spring run and all these fish ran BTWN 12 and 20 LBS each using plugs and tins off the surf using my Conflict 5000 that has the same gears as the Battle II and I've hard fished the Battle series reels for the past 5 years and the only problem with the Penn Battle and V reels are that the gears are made of die cast aluminum and they lose there smoothness in a shot period of time of use but they never failed me yet. My friend that I fished with all spring long was using his Penn Sargus 6000 on different outings the same reel that I saw him land a 50 pound bass snagging bunker off the beach in Jun of 2011, he also uses an old model BG that's indestructible from time to time using mono on it and he has the new 5000 BG model loaded with 17 LB Nanofil and from my observation the BG reels are great. I'm tempted to purchases a new BG but I have enough fishing gear and I can't fish them all at once. {Great Product Review ! }
Great video!! Keep it up vro ⁉️
My experience is it's an excellent reel and excellent value
good video...I have daiwa bg reels and the daiwa saltist reels...nice
Now everyone at Juno will be rocking those shirts.
Thank you I like ur video and how ur self doing right 👍

Love your pad wow
I still own a BG 20, a BG 30 and BG 90 Awesome reels, they just dont quit if you clean them from time to time.
I have a 4000 and a 3500 I love them
these are awesome reels I have three of them. super good price for a super good real. amazing drag. purchased all three off of Amazon about 6 months ago. I was waiting on this review glad you posted
Do a review on your Baja special
Got mine off walmart online, DAIWA BG 4000 @ $90, cheaper than amazon
DYING to try the Daiwa BG. I have 2 Penn Battles, a Fin Nor 9500 offshore, 2 Penn Fierce, a Penn 550ss a Penn Sargus for my spinners but the BG is next
The daiwa samurai is one of the best affordable combos for 30 bucks, i got the freshwater versions, best cheap ones I've found.
Thanks you sir!
I'm very happy with mine, I ordered a 6500 and sent it back as it was more like an 8000 size compared to other manufacturers. I got a 4500 and it is much better for the rod I got it for. I can also recommend the Fin Nor Lethal spinning series.

I can't decide if I want at 4500 or 5000. I plan on doing pier, surf, jetties, and also boat/charters once in a while. Do u think a 4500 can handle a medium size tuna?

dirtychampagnepapi I would go for the 5000, it won't be much bigger but have more line capacity, it would handle them no problems

Im using the same reel with a Daiwa Coastal salt pro surf rod 10'6
Automatic toornament drag is one of the best gift from daiwaBG.
What would you recommend for Tarpon and big snooks, the 4000 or 5000? Thinking about pairing with a shimano teramar 8ft H or XH
If I only fish at the pier or lake which model do you recommend? Once in a while I do surf fishing. Nice review by the way.
Landshark great video man. Do you recommend a 6000 reel for a 10 - 12 foot surf rod. Also what size and brand casting reel do u recommend for 12 foot surf stick?
Hey buddy grt video.. am gonna try the BG.. let me know the rod u wer using with bg for boet as well as beach fishing
I have the 2000 bg it's a beast I have caught so many big fish on it
I like these reels. They are truly one of the best. I also like the Penn Battle equally, as well. Have both in 6000 series. I really also like the Penn Spinfishers, and the Pflueger Presidents, but there have gone up dramatically in price in recent years.
I am not a saltwater guy, but I ordered the BG3500 because I liked everything about it...
The only thing I’m having trouble deciding about is the 4500 or 5000 size reel because the line capacity is so much more than most reels
I love my Daiwa BGs! I have a 2500, 3500,4500 and 8000. Amazing what about 100 bucks can get you these days. Quick question : What rod do you have that 5000 on?
I just got the BG 4500 . My question is , do you need to unscrew the screw to switch the handles on the opposite side once the handle is off ? Thanks in advance. I turn my handle with my right hand
Great vid, I was gonna order a new Penn Spinfisher V 8500 but not sure now.

Fishing with Ryan get the Spinfisher for sure
can you recommend the right size reel for king fishing from a pier, and possibly an affordable rod/rod size/action?
Brother, it is really tough to take your recommendation here even though I am a big fan of you and Brook both. I see you fishing shimano and van staals mostly. More interested to hear your thoughts on the Saltx series of reels.
Hey bro love your vids alot.. teaches me alot... is it possible can u do a honest review on a fin nor offshore 8500 or can u give me your take on that particuler reel... thanks in advance....
Do you think a 3500-4000 size bg can stand up to constant casting? I've heard of gear issues with whipping style fishing.
My girl just got me the BG 4K, and I'm loving it more than my stradic can't lie.

Hi, How long have you been used this reel? how is now?
I just got the Daiwa BG 4000 for surf fishing. What kind of maintenance do you do to your reels after you go beach fishing and saltwater gets on/in your reels? Also, have you tried the Daiwa Feugo LT 4000? I was considering getting that one since it has a higher drag, larger line capacity, and its much lighter than the BG.
i have one it still great
I just ordered the Daiwa BG4500 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel, can you tell me roughly how much (20 lb braided line) it will hold on the spool?
Looking to purchase a new rod and reel combo I'm just starting to saltwater fish. Would you suggest the Saratoga 10k or the Diawa BG 8k because I haven't seen a 10k? And can you suggest a nice rod as well
Alan hawk reviewed the bg and said it was fantastic.he stripped it down, like all the reels he review said it has quality parts and is comparable to much more expensive reels.much better than penns in the same price range.it was the best reel in its class, easily.
But its not waterproof? So whats better Penn slammer 3, a little bit more expensive or a less money bg. I want to use it in norway.
Just got one for my Birthday .. question is the automatic to flip back or Manuel
I have that one but the penn battle 2 is a beast !

how does it compare to your penn slammer?
Hey how much pound line can it take i been trying to find it in the vid but could not find it i luv ur vids and it will be a huge help
Thinking of either getting the diawa bg 8000/ fin nor 9500a/ or penn slammer 3 8500hs. The penn is kinda of pricey but the other too are just over 100 bucks. Mainly using for a big live bait setup so mainly focusing on line capacity and drag as this will mainly be used for free lineing out baits not casting. Was going to use 65 lbs braid. Please any comments or suggestions will help thanks!
I pier fish, jetty fish, surf fish and occasionally fish offshore, and may be picking up a kayak in the near future. What size would be suitable for this range of fishing?
Now there is the BG Magsealed and the BG MQ. I have the BG in 3500 and 5000 but looking to move into the BG MQ with the new Monocoque body.
