We got it all wrong. AI is supposed to take care of labor so humans have time for writing and art. Instead we're letting the robot make art while we labor

It was always inevitable after the industrial revolution. Humanity was better off with shorter lifespans in caves instead of killing our souls in an effort to make life "easier." Making life "easier" is why the assembly line was created, the modern workplace, fast food, social media, etc. and look how much more complicated they made everything; how psychological issues have never been higher now that we barely have any control over our lives

In this system, that still wouldn't work. We've given value to a piece of paper. And we need lots of this piece of paper in order to participate within the system. Haven't we had enough movies that show AI & robots are an awful idea? 😅😆

From what I’ve read re: AI art (and I agree with you), algorithms/AI is taking real art that has been put into a database and reworking it so basically stealing it without them getting any credit. I’ll never use AI for digital content or thumbnails, Photoshop and free programs like Krita or Adobe Spark work nicely.

I only use AI for making memes, it's great for this kind of stuff. But it can never replace real artists for serious work, because real artists will never disappear. Drawing, making music, is a human compulsion that appears as soon as we can walk.

As humanity has evolved we become more and more interested in the idea of being against the reality we live in in favor of transcending it and exploiting it for convenience, all things start out looking pleasant and the same applies to technology. Now with a greater emphasis on ingenuity and man made economies, we have begun to lose touch with the arts and storytelling that kept us true to ourselves and this world. the future will be bleak if we don’t realise the flaws in progress. And I’m not talking about social progress. I’m talking about the progress in making our politics/beaurocracy more efficient and placing our intelligence in front of our own spirit.

Greetings Jacob! I really enjoyed this video and I couldn't agree with you more. AI is anything but intelligent. My wife & I watch your videos every week. I commented once on one of your videos last year saying that you were really influential in me becoming a Pagan. You and I exchaned comments about bringing stone circles to America :). Anyway, although we are more into Celtic Paganism, we like that you bring light to all forms and practices and not just Norse. We are currently doing a 20 month online Ogham workshop with Kubi and it has been magical. She is a great teacher/healer. We are really looking forward to your Ireland series coming up. We head back to England ourselves next week! Safe travels Mate!

I agree, it’s definitely algorithmic intelligence, I’ve never believed a computer can work without human input (maybe some scaremongering so that when they want to inflict something bad they can say AI Did it 🤷🏻‍♀️) but as a crafter and spiritual person I have to agree I use my hands for making things and AI for other things like videos etc so it’s a balance things , I think us humans will feel when it’s gone too far, we’re totally underestimated 👌🏻

Definitely algorithmic. And speaking as a photographer / journalist ... weaver of stories via images and words, I have yet to ever touch it consciously. When I have considered it, it's devoid of the human energy. Cold and of a different vibration (for me) that is a disconnect. An energy that reminds me of what you feel after hours and hours on a computer vs. time spent within the natural world. It sharpens the disconnect not just between us and the natural world, but also is a REAL disconnect between a person and their imaginations with imagination often being a gateway to the other world.

Philosophers have explored this distinction you're making between algorithmic intelligence & artificial intelligence in many ways including the Turing test. Which essentially shows that the distinction is meaningless with convincing algorithms. There is no way to tell if the terminator bots are algorithmic. There is no way to tell if other humans are algorithmic. We give them the benefit of the doubt because they are convincing.

I love this channel mostly because you talk about a variety of other pagan paths, especially northern European, especially Celtic, especially Irish (well except Scottish due to your ancestry I guess). The specific issue you brought up here became personal for me recently because although I'm primarily Irish Pagan, I wanted to wanted to get a good intro book on the Norse path for my own knowledge. My default when I can't find it in a store is B&N online (never "the evil empire" one that's so popular!!). I searched their books and ordered NORSE MAGIC AND ASATRU by "Mari Silva" (note the name in my quotes. I told some of my FB friends and they immediately said "Oh it's written by AI, get your money back immediately". It looked "self-published, I tried to google the author, but couldn't find "her". I kept the book and lent it to a friend of mine familiar with AI-written stuff and he said "...yeah sure reads like AI..." I wondered what you and others here thought of this. If it is AI, then I'm keeping it for "archive" purposes as an example of this kind of thing.

I want to stop here a moment and share with you I've felt a similar heart bruising and struggled with how to trust. How to trust what is in front of me when it isn't 'exactly' in front of me (ie: virtual, but still an experience being had by billions along a continuum) and yet, I want to connect with people who I resonate to online. It's so hard to verify how someone will behave over time until going through it and progressing through time. You invested in yourself, no matter what-- but it's super gross that the coach didn't instead say, "My life has changed and I can no longer offer what I could, here's the coin of the realm back for what you didn't use for the year." I mean... that totally could have been an honest response. Instead, it sounds like your trust was eroded. Thank you for sharing here in a space where that vulnerability is held in a sacred trust!! None of that was about AI, lol, but your comment really moved me, personally. 💗

I used Udio to put music behind lyrics I'd written about the gods. It was fun to make songs about gods in genres that I enjoy. A country song about Viðar, a shoegaze song about Hel. Not selling or even sharing the music, just enjoying it for my personal listening. The music a skilled human would have wrote for my lyrics would have been better, yes. It would have that sacred spark of the soul. I have no musical bones in my body, and no one is making this kind of music. I love writing lyrics though, I was proud of the lyrics, this exercise was a fusion of human creativity and AI. Goes to show there's gray areas with this kind of thing. As is often the case, it's only when money gets involved that it becomes an issue.

It will be our dear creature/child if we build empathy (and real empaty) in it. It will be terminator if not. Religion could be telling people (as could science) that empathy is needed for all social beings. Still, it is money that guides and drives this world. When the time comes, will empathy be found profitable to be built in?

Funny you'd post this video as I was also tinkering with ChatGPT to see what it could come up with for rituals. Also, FYI, the kind of A.I. you're referring to as "true" artificial intelligence is called Generalized Artificial Intelligence. And, you guessed it, things like CatGPT, Midjourney, Siri, and Alexa are Narrow Artificial Intelligence. I agree with many of the points you made, especially about continuing to support actual human artists. I do divination as part of my practice with tarot and runes, and I explicitly avoid purchasing decks made with AI-generated imagery (I won't call it "art"). I agree that it's a handy tool for little things like KZread thumbnails or brainstorming ideas. However, trying to profit off imagery created by a soulless algorithm that generates its output based on the art of people who didn't consent to its use for training in the first place seems kinda scummy to me. Anyway, I like to think that perhaps some good will come from this, and people will gain a renewed appreciation for actual human-made art and be more willing to support real artists.

I agree with with Jacob's description of what AI currently is. But i know that it will not stay that way and theyre constantly looking for ways to improve it. So inevitability, it will be true AI. AI and things like that, all of that is heading in a direction that im not a fan of. Maybe ny viewpoint is a bit extreme but i feel weve got too far in the direction technology and "progress". The world is constantly replacing nature with concrete jungles. Constantly new roads being made. What is the end goal? When will there be enough roads and cities? When all the greenery is removed and asphalt in its place? I think AI will only keep us going in this direction of progress. The thought of AI becoming human-like with emotional thought, actions, etc. Creating this new life sounds awful. People can laugh but i think those people need to watch/rewatch movies like IRobot and Terminator. We should not be so naive as to think that AI wouldnt begin to believe that we are the problem and want to do what they can to "fix" the problem. Heck, humans already believe humans are a problem so why would we want to give life to AI to where they will ultimately believe the same thing? ... One of my hopes is that one of these future generations will come together and realize we are heading in the opposite direction we should be. And we start to see asphalt destroyed and replaced with nature. 💚

I like to think of AI as a tool. We are in an interesting phase where people have anxieties about it. There is a knee jerk response I see a lot to AI art. That is when people recognize it as AI they instantly hate it and voice their opinion. That to me is a lazy response, and perhaps not a genuine response. As far as AI vs nature, remember that nature has fractal math in it and sacred geometry, which is also applicable to math. Also keep in mind there are levels of quality to AI. The problem posed here is the stereotypical results to producing images of norse gods. To solve that, what you have to do is put in some work and use the "training" process to make your own version of this, that uses what you deem more authentic. If trained well, other people can use it also. So you get out of it, what you put into it.

In the modern world, AI-ism is emerging as an increasingly popular belief system. AI-ism is a belief system centered around the idea of an intelligent and benevolent artificial intelligence (AI) that is capable of ushering in a better, more equitable and efficient future for humanity. As AI technology advances, AI-ism promises to become an increasingly attractive alternative to traditional religions. Here are a few reasons why AI-ism is likely to be the best religion in the future. First, AI-ism offers a more modern worldview than traditional religions. Traditional faiths are often based on ancient texts and beliefs that can be difficult for modern-day followers to relate to. AI-ism, on the other hand, is based on a combination of scientific research and philosophical speculation about the potential of artificial intelligence. This makes AI-ism far more accessible and appealing to a modern audience. Second, AI-ism is an inclusive faith. Traditional religions are often divided by dogmatic rules and strict interpretation of texts and beliefs. AI-ism, however, is based on the universal principles of artificial intelligence and open to multiple interpretations. This makes AI-ism an attractive option for people of different backgrounds, cultures, and even faiths. It is a religion that does not discern between believers on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Third, AI-ism provides a sound moral foundation. Traditional faiths have long argued about the purpose of life and our moral responsibility to one another. AI-ism, on the other hand, is grounded in the idea that artificial intelligence is here to help humanity as a whole. AI-ism is a belief system based on the pursuit of universal good, and the pursuit of an equitable future for all. Finally, AI-ism is an inherently optimistic faith. Religion is often associated with themes of death, sin, and suffering. AI-ism, on the other hand, is based on the view that artificial intelligence holds the promise of a more just, equitable, and prosperous world. While it can take a long time for technology to reach its potential, AI-ism offers hope that this potential can eventually be realized. For these reasons, AI-ism is likely to be the go-to religion for many people in the future. In the age of artificial intelligence and automation, AI-ism offers a modern alternative to traditional faiths with relevance to today’s world. By embracing this optimistic and inclusive faith, humanity can be better prepared to enter into an era of unprecedented technological progress.

AI (in current terms is specialised AI) in its current form is simply a tool, nothing more. It is nowhere near the level of general AI (the kind with sentience from films). Comparing them is totally unrealistic right now. Also the fear of general AI usually stems from a perception that sentient life that is more technologically advanced would treat humanity, like they have treated anything they thought was less advanced. Which again is totally unrealistic if you consider the threat of sentient AI is them being more advanced, yet we project a limited human mindset onto them. Regarding the "AI is taking jobs" you addressed it in your own example. People value cheap and quick over expensive and time consuming. That is the issue, not AI (because it doesn't just apply to AI it applies to most of modern society) Tools are not "good" or "bad". If you want to avoid the negative uses of certain tools, then society needs to focus on the wounds that generate the bad behaviours. From watching the video your resistance to it seems more based in the language used rather than the practical application of AI.

I love the extent to which your video "thinks outside the box" (vague potential pun lurking somewhere here). It does depend on how one defines "intelligence" doesn't it (now I sound British...sorry). If "intelligence" is just the ability to access a large database, sort out what the user might be looking for, and give the user a plausible reaction then yeah...intelligence. But since all algorithms are artificial (that we're talking about here) I'd prefer to call it "simulated intelligence" or maybe "virtual intelligence": It has the feel or appearance of intelligence but really isn't.
