Justin is one of the VERY few people on YT that is teaching a third chord and different strumming patterns for each chord as on the original. This vid is the way....
The horses name was Justin

The reference is from our radio station way back in the 90’s. Rodney was live in the studio on the Bob & Tom show in Indianapolis and he performed the song, “ Fred’s riding Fred “. I was just off work 3rd shift in the morning and heard it live first time on air. Later the made him say alcohol instead of weed.
This is why I decided to learn guitar. I don't need to become a virtuoso to experience the joy of making music. Thank you for so generously sharing your knowledge and encouragement.
One of the first songs I ever learned.
I noticed this song while searching for song sheets. I knew that I could rely on you to have a lesson ready for this song. I always leave your clips feeling invigorated and keen to practice. 🙏
This was the very first song we learned in high school and we only learned it with two chords. I like this variation that does sound a lot closer to the original. I’m a beginner all over again so this is perfect for practicing and I’m glad I found this vid, thanks for covering it!
I finally learned my first song on guitar 🎸. Thanks to you sir. Please keep up the good work. Keep us motivated, because of your content, i really followed your content from start to finish.

I am a drummer but really enjoy you very clear explicit lessons and are very helpful to me as a drummer.Your humor intermingled is also refreshing as not to make everything stiff and disciplined its relaxing way to learn.thanks Justin excellent guitar sound also.

This is my first song, 3rd video of instruction on KZread. You explained it best, especially the strumming rhythm.
Tbh I’ve learned this song years ago, but I’m still watching because you’re so entertaining!
I liked the normal two chord tutorials but yours is hands down the closest and most detailed in strumming as well. This is my first song I’m attempting to learn ever, and immediately before deciding this was the song my mind just gravitates to thinking of guitar I’ve loved. Thanks for the video!!

Best tutorial for this song I've found yet! As a beginner this really gives me direction on how to practice to play the song at multiple levels of intricacy.
Wow. I m understanding. Love your style. Calm and precise
Great lesson! Going to learn it this weekend.
Thanks for the tastiest rythm lesson I know of !! Signed: Sort of intermidiate player !
You're a very talented teacher. Thanks for making it achievable, useful, structured, and fun! Keep em coming....
This lesson has been very helpful. Thank you Justin!
Justin, THANKS for adding the stuff that makes this sound good and for the heads up to listen for other strum changes on the record. This two chord song could get old quick without the stuff - although very simple is great for beginners.
Indeed , I thought I was hearing something but now makes sense from your explanation! Thanks!
You are the best beginner guitar teacher for rhythm… Because of the “down up” teaching style… It is the best way I’ve seen to teach me as a beginner… Thank You!

Beautiful song
Thank you so much Justin. Your lessons carried me through the last horrible two years 🥰 Oh and Marty Schwartz called the chord a fancy D. I actually like this a lot 🤣

Excellent lesson
I have played bass in this song and on beat 3 the bass moves from the F# to a high E and does a minor run down to the low E so to me as a bass player you are definitely right but it only does it at the end of each section
Love you Justin. Your lessons are wonderful and has really gotten me excited to play. Thanks!!
I was stuck- then I followed your advice- and wow - thanks
I bought a book about 40 years ago called 101 songs for easy guitar which had a 4 chord version of this song which sounded quite good
Very cool.
You are the best my guy 👍❤️
You're the man!
great lesson
This is by far the best instruction with detail and strumming patterns for this song. Thanks Justin for an incredibly good lesson
Congrats on 1M dude!
Hi Justin, great work as ever! I really enjoy your song lessons! I know you played in a Rolling Stones Cover Band and I'm a big Stones fan myself. Therefore I'd like to ask, if you could do a "Sweet Virginia" and/or a "Ruby Tuesday" lesson some day. Two of my favourite Stones songs and I think especially "Sweet Virginia" has some interesting parts in it, which could be beneficial for guitar learners. Thank you for your good work! Keep on doing it! :)
Hey Justin, second chord is a beautiful voicing of a D/F# Major which you can extend with a D on the B string (third fret). I love that shape which you can transpose along the neck using the index finger on the D string two frets away. And as a D major makes sense armonically.
This man deserves more views.
Ty Justin
Thank you
This is the 3 rd time learning this song by different instructors. Yours sounds great!

As always a tremendous lesson, for which thanks. As a matter of interest, I have the sheet music published by Warner Bros. Publications Inc. from way back in the seventies! According to that, the chords are Em at the fourth fret and D9/6 also at the fourth. The chorus is Em9 at the second fret and D Maj 9 at the second. I've never really played the song because I struggle with the Em9 because I have a bit of a crooked little finger.
Justin! Your guitar and amplifier collection looks epic :-D America, the band named after where I was born! Peace and Love
Nice one mate
YOU ARE THE BEST
There is a second guitar part as pointed out below, in the chorus. I believe it's a Bm (or something close) and a second fret high E string and G string...A-something perhaps? They harmonize well with the Em and D6.
Great lesson! Thanks!

Hello Justin, Always love your lucid explanations… as for this song you don’t mention the chorus chords of F# maj7 on the 2nd fret and the c#,A and f# on the 2nd fret again…
Thanx Justin.

Hello Justin very good lesson as usual... just a question about the brown cream box on the "V" amp head. I see this box on many vidéos i d like to know what it is...
Justin, what about the muted part around beat 2 I think? (Sorry I'm a beginner). I've seen other videos include that where they mute and strum there. You can hear it in the song too. Also I just bought the subscription to your app. I'm loving it so far, thanks for being you
I thought I knew this song, but I saw/heard that you were doing something different in the intro but I didn't know what. I was like, "WTF is he doing?" LOL. Thanks for the tip.
Deja Vu! Funny, this was my karaoke song in the 90s after about $100 in sushi & saki :D
Your voice reminds me of the roadie from Waynes World 2. 👍🏼👍🏼
