When I got my first pipe over 10 years ago, I didn’t know what to do. I found this video and follow the directions exactly. It was a perfect smoke. To this day, this is still exactly how I do it. I also send this video to any new comers I find that need help getting started. Thank you Mr. McGrane!

Got my first pipe yesterday and failed miserably using other ‘how to’ videos. Found this after, and tried it today. Worked like a charm. This might be the best tutorial I’ve seen on KZread in general! I can’t believe none of the other pipe channels follow this method. I’ll be doing this from now on for sure.

what a great video, you should do a video on not just the different types of tobacco but on how the different tobacco tastes, i think that would be helpful for new pipe smokers to enjoy their smoke if they knew the flavor notes of aromatic, and the robust flavors of the English blends so that folks are not blindsided by a heavy latakia blend, when they really are going for a virginia or a cavendish.

I feel like wisdom in pipe smoking is a bit like relationship wisdom - no one really trusts the “when it’s right, you’ll know it” or “it gets easier” or “eventually, you’ll be able to know by touch whether it’s packed correctly” lol I’ve been on the pipe journey for about 9 years now and I used this video and method for a while because like you I struggled to get consistency with other methods. What I will say though is that eventually you do just develop an instinctual touch for how much goes in and when to press and how hard to press.
