Also from the Scottish highlands. When he opened his mouth and spoke I was surprised and satisfied. Made me feel good. That accent is one of the best in the world. I don’t smoke a pipe, I enjoy a bit of snuff. It’s interesting highlanders enjoy a southern drawl

I know that feeling all too well. I lost my Father on Thanksgiving Day, in 1982. I'm now 52, and still have days when it hits a bit harder. I bought my first pipe in 1986. A Peterson 150. When those feelings hit hard, I pack a nice pipe, and take a walk. Remembering the lessons learned, and what he meant to me, and what I meant to him. Keep the faith young man. God speed.

I recently have taken to pipe smoking. My maternal grandfather would don a smoking jacket in the evening after dinner, he would smoke a bowl of his favorite leaf in the lower living room quarters. That's been decades ago. When you talk of manners and respect, I have a shop where I work on vehicles and tractors, for myself, as a hobby. I will not allow smoking in my shop because of fire hazards, and I will not in anyone else's shop out of consideration and respect. I am, however, not above offering a beer and a sit down outside if a smoke is desired. With all things being cordial and friendly. I've just subbed your channel and 👍

It astounds me to see a hobby like this where I have never once seen someone who was being impolite or behaving like an idiot, even in KZread comments! Every piper on KZread is so calming and well mannered, you could even watch them in polite company! This kind of thing just doesn't exist anywhere else, I hope it never goes away

As an Englishman it must be known that I will (unfortunately so) use profane language every now & again especially when making points or expressing an opinion. Not so much that I will be effing & blinding every sentence, but adding ‘colour’ to my language is a very English, wether gentlemanly or common class, way of things. I must add that during conversation we must find the appropriate times to have a laugh & use such language, because there are times where we must come back to Earth & speak gently, when such topics come around. I believe that the role of a pipe smoker is to be responsible & good hearted in all that they do. The enjoyment of a pipe & a good conversation with one or more people is key, focusing on the, again, ENJOYMENT of the hobby, it exists as such a thing to allow us not to worry about the things outside of whatever you may be discussing, and gives us a time to relax & reflect. God bless brother

I agree with that. My husband and I in general started talking about our cursing behavior. Cursing isn't something that people should get into. Use better words. It's not just for the younger people in the room but it creates a specific vibration in a person's life. It invites a person to be negative and crass rather than choosing the better option of not cursing. So, we have slowly started changing how we speak and it's interesting because we have watched our group of friends with it almost like a game. When we curse less, they also curse less. But when we drop the F word frequently, they also curse more. So, it doesn't just affect you energetically, but it affects others. Psalms talks about cursing and how it effects the spirit and clear down to the bone marrow. It creates a breach in the soul. But your behavior is so much affected and influenced by how you speak that it completely determines what type of social circles your even allowed into also. I've noticed also that the people with the most mouths are the ones who smoke cigarettes and also cigars and weed. Basically, the more addictive and chemically changing smokes. I find that fascinating as well. But you do almost seem to gain 100 more wise points when you are seen smoking a pipe. Maybe it's the design of the pipe. It's almost designed for you to hold yourself further away from the smoke, plus it makes you think because you have to actually forge the heat of the bowl while you're smoking too. So, you can think about what you say rather than do. Also, I find it interesting that people who generally smoke like a chiming are angrier people than those who like to sip on the smoke, and you rarely see even a whisp of smoke come out of their mouth. It's like the art of the womans hand fan. You can read the character by how a woman communicates with her hand fan. you can read a man's character by how he smokes a pipe. Unfortunately, etiquette is being lost amongst the younger generations and that's something we need back.

As someone who sadly does curse at the moment, I mostly see cursing as a laziness for using better words. Why actually express your destain for something when you can just curse a bit. It's a bad habit and I wish for it to be gone soon.

So glad I stubbled into you! As a boy I always enjoyed time with my uncle, his conversations and the smell of his pipe. I learned many things during our talks. Keeping your belongings well maintained, a washed and waxed vehicle, polished shoes, the smell and texture of fine leather goods like a briefcase or belt, the enjoyment of a finely crafted double barrel shotgun, how to be respectful and listen to the stories of your elders. The smell of cherrie cavandish brings those childhood memories back to me again. I think I may go buy a pipe this weekend . Thanks for your content!

I found your channel in the last three or four months. I gave myself a present this year with my birthday. Pipe smoking at age 49. Loved your videos and sad to see that you have discontinued your dream with this hobby. I agree with all you presented in this session. I strongly agree with your last unwritten commandment, which was health. I am a PT in the geriatric community of rehabilitation. The obesity rate I see with my patients and coworkers, is getting worse. I run 4 miles a day in the morning and cook my own food 99 percent. Ride motorcycles as I don't own a running car. I have been fat twice in both my marriages that have both ended in divorce and found it is unhappiness that creates food addiction. Media and habits create unhappiness. This habit of smoking a pipe every night has brought me calm and time to think about myself. I thank you for assisting me in this new habit that brings pleasure.

As a courtesy I wanted to say thank you for your video. I’m 41 years old now and took up pipe smoking almost two years ago. My grandfather passed away over twenty years ago and I saved his collection of pipes from going into the trash. I have no memory of him smoking. After learning from instructional videos by another KZread creator I have developed a love for smoking a pipe. My wife loves the aroma. My friends who smoke cigars together include me in those gatherings. It’s a conversation starter among strangers. Everyone says it suits me. It’s akin to being a writer or a curmudgeon; you’re not really a pipe smoker until someone else says that you are one. Your content and pleasant manner of presentation is much appreciated.

The general public here in the states especially , need to know what a pipe & cigar connoisseur is & does , within our practice's & ritual's !!! Such as we do not inhale ' thereby avoiding the addiction aspect of tobacco & only go for the taste / flavor & the smell / aroma of the experience !!! Sad to say that like coffee drinkers who chose only to rinse their cups rather than wash them each outing , we a have a similar class of pipe smoker's that bang away at their pipes without clearing & freshening between fills !!!

There’s a rich tradition of pipe smoking here, but I’m just as blessed by my cousins from ‘across the pond’. Well stated. Behaving in a civil way, displaying common courtesy, used to be normal. However, such behavior isn’t being taught in many homes today, nor being reinforced in educational settings. If pipe smokers can share such civility, all the better.

Enoying your videos and I am gratified to see younger men like yourself enjoying pipes and tobaccos. I have made a few videos myself but found that I enjoy watching rather than making them. As a fellow (North) Carolina pipe smoker since the mid 1980's, I wish you the best in your effort to open a brick and mortar shop. It's tough to find other pipe smokers now days. I live in rural ENC and don't personally know a single pipe smoker. Anyway good luck to you from a neighbor to your North.

Sir you have a lovely accent. Also everything you said makes perfect sense. I have a good friend who swears a lot if I hadn't known him for 30 years I probably wouldn't be his friend however beneath the swearing he is the nicest kindest man. Since COVID 6 of my friends have passed away I am left with 3 friends so I treasure them like family.

27 here as well! Reading Lord of the Rings got me into it this last April, after a lifetime of being staunchly against any form of smoking. Always been an 'old soul' myself, though I fell out of use of that phrase when I learned that it's quite a literal one, being based upon a superstition of reincarnation. It's rare that weather is fair where I live, but I've really taken a shine to it all! I've got nearly three Ball mason jar packs full of blends I've tried!

It is refreshing to see (and hear) someone talk without the use of profanity. It is also refreshing to hear someone expound on the qualities and merits of a gentleman pipe smoker. Yes, we are always on display, and the way we talk and conduct ourselves will leave an Impression (hopefully a positive one) of a personality most would want to emulate. Most pipe smokers are perceived as being worldly (in a good way), mature, wise, and contemplative of life in general and the well-being of those around them. Yes, one should take the time to be well read and able to contribute to any conversation in a positive, well-informed, and constructive way. Thank you for sharing your viewpoint and I heatedly agree with you, and I am impressed that you do take the time to read books.

I have been very excited to watch your videos! This video, however, has been a good reminder. More so the reading! I know I need to read more I just struggle with it. I like audio books but I have ADD and I’ll have to go back and re listen because a word sparked a thought and boom I’m gone haha 😂 but, I remember my grandad had a talk with me and told me “son, you have to decide what kind of man you want to be, and you must stick to it. Unapologetically.” Well, he smoked a pipe, read many books, was kind and courteous, courageous and bold but patient. He didn’t cuss, heck he hardly said five words in an hour. I wanted to be like him, but as myself. When he passed away I didn’t cry BECAUSE he taught me that we WILL see eachother again (he was a pastor) and I rejoiced he was home in heaven… my cousins did not, and I was put in the unique position to be what pawpaw was to me, to them. I don’t know why I shared that. I need to write you a letter!
