A pint and a pipe!

In this episode I celebrate the long welcoming continuity of the old English inn.
perhaps on this occasion you might prefer to buy me a pint, rather than a coffee, but its still the same page and I can magically turn the coffee into beer - many thanks

I got it recommended too. At first I thought it was going to be a comedy sketch in line with 'The Fast-show', about an eccentric English gentleman, it had all the hallmarks and clichés of being so. It took about a minute or so to realise the fellow wasn't an actor lol!. I watched it through to the end though, with splendid interest.

I can see the old boys in my Grandparents house in rural Ireland lighting their pipes when I was maybe 10..I loved the smell...they drank whiskey, played cards and had discussions...I stayed up late and was enthralled...none of them had much but it was the best of times circa 1985
Well met good Sir! The world desperately needs more like you. Humanity is losing it's soul...
Pipes, pint, and pensiveness. Pure gold.
You remind me of my Dad, i loved him so much. I used to steal his pipe when he wasn't looking and blow into it and pretend i was smoking it! I can still hear the scraping sound as he cleaned out the bowl. I write stories and i always have a grey haired pipe smoking gentlemen in most of them as a tribute to him. I wish I had a dad like this guy, instead of being the selfish, arrogant, egotistical, sanctimonious narcissist I've had to admit to knowing for the last 5 decades. The only thing he had in common with the owner of this channel, was that he smoked a pipe for a time, and drank pints of beer. This chap looks like someone who I'd be happy to sit in a pub with and ramble on about anything and everything. Plus he also looks like Dr. Zaius out of Planet of the apes.

Now this is what the internet needs.I find the new technology seems to separate us all so much, sitting down and having a chat with a pint and a pipe makes it more palatable. I love Tennyson’s work I live very close to his house, the lane leading up to it is called Tennyson lane, I often go camping on the hill which is called (Blackdown) near Lurgashall, and Haslemere in Surrey, it’s steeped in history, last year I worked on a house which once belonged to sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the owners kindly let me have an old fire grate from one of the fireplaces, it’s now in my wood burner and I can’t help but sit here with the fire roaring on a cold winters evening, thinking that once upon a time Doyle, along with some of his friends like Bram stoker, Oscar Wilde and Harry Houdini all sat round this fire grate and had some very interesting conversations.
As an Australian I'm envious that you guys have such old buildings

Now that i' ve found this channel, i get more regretful not having had opportunity to travel back to Britain as that is my ancestral home where we know from family bibles the two original brothers came over from Nottinghamshire in early 1800. I never had a career that paid enough to fund a trip that expansive. Clock repair and restoration does not really make one a lot of money if one is legitimate.lol depends on where you live in the US. Anyway, i love your little talks as i always feel that spirit of Englishness that is nostalgic to me and gives me that feeling of closer ties to England. I love the old pubs and Inns, its one of my fave subjects i like to look up videos about on youtube as there are so many good historical presentations and travel videos of people that go around showing them and how they are built inside. The bad thing is seeing the videos about the old inns and pubs that had to be closed due to the covid economic crash or idiot government forcing a place to go out of business because they want to reroute a road or something. Really sad to see many of these great places shuttered and no life as a pub or inn should have.
God I've love to hear to read for audio books. You have a lovely voice.
Reminds me of chats by the late MATCHES 860...not a pipe smoker, but a joy listening to the stories.

We have a local church St Mary the Virgin North Shoebury which is 750 years old. They built the Asda superstore right next to it. The church is now affectionately known locally as St Mary-by-Asda. My husband's grandfather was a village blacksmith on the Yorkshire Wolds. He was a regular Sunday worshipper. Walking back from parish church to forge after service he would always stop for a pint in the Middleton Arms. When challenged by his Methodist wife he would always claim he was 'thirsting after righteousness'
