Alyssa, great roundup for seasonless basics. As someone who lives in a four-season climate, I ended up with far too many clothes. As I begin to curate my closet this is great information. I would agree with everything and add a cardigan sweater...especially in a natural fabric. It can work all year. Thanks again!

My "style" is casual but polished so denim, sleeveless shells and cardigans fill my closet! I find cardigans are more flexible than pullover sweaters. I wear them all year long since most are 3/4 sleeve and I get the third piece look that can be removed if I get warm and still looked fully dressed. Love your videos 💚

I’m pretty sure you’re the one who showed us a cardigan used as a shirt, unbuttoned so that it looks like a V-neck. Since then, I’ve branched out with a couple of cardigans in green. They pair really well over basic shirts, add a pop of color, look fantastic with navy/cream/white, but are also cute all alone. I also find them super practical in summer before the sun comes out. Then I just tie it around my waist and have it later when it cools down, all with a tee and shorts. Oh, and I never would’ve put a long sleeve T with a pair of shorts! Thank you for all the ideas on how to reinvent sooooo much! Threes cheers for the cardigan! Another good dress basic is a navy dress. I follow a French stylist who showed a navy dress 20 ways. It was genius... I had the elements for six possibilities of the dress already in my closet, just as I find with your videos! Thanks for helping me be more intentional in my wardrobe planning!

I use to wear thick knits in the winter. I cureated my closet and narrowed my colors to gray and black, threw in a few taupe and navy. Reds is my additional color. I discovered camisoles under my long sleeves last year. You are spot on with your basic choices. Thanks to you and a few other KZreadrs I've got a working wardrobe.

What a great video! Thank you for the shoulder test suggestion (who knew?!) and for walking us through some basics. These types of videos are some of my favorite (and of course second Sunday shop your closet). I'd love to hear more information on those quality tips for how to tell if garments are well made (like your jeans and stitching tips), since it's not always easy to tell when shopping second hand or at discount store like Nordstrom Rack what to look out for. Thanks again!

Nice vid...great selection! How about a video on season-less accessories that are staples and the many ways to wear them? Silk scarves, belts, necklaces, bags, loafers, etc. ? Or... how to “punch up” the basics by adding things like a statement necklace or a broach in a creative way. I have the basics but I sometimes struggle with adding that one thing that really makes an outfit unique. I just end up wearing a season less t shirt and jeans and it is just ho hum.

Thanks Alyssa. In Central California it is ten degrees cooler than Southern California so this means we wear layers. Must wear or bring a blazer, or sweater, short sleeves or sleeveless with other choices all year round. In Spring Summer however the fabric is lighter and the colors less severe, more cheerful.

I live in jeans and trousers and t-shirts. I must admit, I prefer a short-sleeved t-shirt to a sleeveless one. I only wear sleeveless t-shirts when it's summer. I bought a lightweight lined blazer last year, but due to lockdown I haven't had the chance to wear it much. Hope you are keeping well, Alyssa. PS: I didn't know Tencel was a natural fabric, you learn something new every day!

Like seriously gotta find those!! 😀 Secondly in my environment where it gets over 100* regularly, the blazers, jean jackets, long denim and pretty much any kind of layering piece you mentioned, would be a no go 🙅🏼‍♀️ But I do like to use very sheer & light weight Kimonos. I’m also the kind of person who would say a good ol pair of Birkenstock sandals are a year round staple 🤩🤣

It is difficult for those of us who need an underwired bra. I also need the waistband on my jeans to be on my waist and inseam to land on my ankle. I hate wide leg and crop, and together ? No. Jacket/blazer sleeves have to be full length......we agree on so much.

Definitely agree about the bra! I tried to make it work with a nude more structured padded bralette, but once I got out of covey sweaters and into more fitted tops, it has stopped working. I just ordered three different underwire style bras from True&Co to see which one fits the best and is the most comfortable. Hopefully their return process is simple for the ones that don’t!

Hi Alyssa. Love the look of the shorts with a long sleeve tee. Question: why do you wear long sleeves in the summer? I know I do because I don't want to show my arms. In the winter I always wear a tee shirt under my sweaters. One because I'm cold and two because it keeps me from sweating directly on the sweater. Also love the look of blazer with the cardigan wrapped around your shoulders as a scarf. Great trick if you get cold. I always do. Cheers.

What if classic blazers just don't look good on your body type? Anything too structured makes me look bulky. What would you recommend instead?

  • @AlyssaBeltempo

    @AlyssaBeltempo

    4 жыл бұрын

Ooh what a great question - I think there are blazers that still have structure but the tailoring is very fitted .. I think that might make a difference ... It's hard to tell without seeing you but you could also try a sleeveless blazer / vest with lapels - you lose the bulk of the shoulders and get nice elongating columns up and down but the lapels keep it authoritative and polished ... I hope this helps !

I have been wanting to get Organic Basics for a while now. I would like a short and a long sleeved. Would you say they fit true to size? I’m torn between XS (don’t want it too tight) or S ( don’t want it too loose)

Hi Barb! I would definitely say they fit true to size. I have the men's short sleeve tee so can't comment too much on that but re; the long sleeve tees; in the white I am wearing a small and in the black I'm wearing a medium ... there is only a slight difference, I find they both fit really well (not too tight or too loose) I hope this helps! xx

I agree. The round neck just doesn’t do it for me, so I am constantly gravitating to my less expensive/not quality v-necks and then having to replace them more often.

Hello my Toronto neighbour...What are your favourite dark wash denims? I prefer mid rise as opposed to high rise. I already have long legs and a short torso so mid rise are perfect. I am athletic build. Any suggestions for Canadian purchase? Take care! xo

Naked and Famous Denim and Iris Denim are two made in Canada labels on top of my head. For stores, I recommend dutil denim and muttonhead in Toronto, Tate and Yoko in Montreal. I own a pair of Naked and Famous in Max style and Setouchi color and it blows my mind on how good denim should look and feel. Their fabric is gorgeous and comfortable.
