I stumbled upon today's recipe on Whiskey Advocate where they shared the Three Dots and a Dash version of the Tropical Itch cocktail. I didn't spend too much time sleuthing the internet looking for confirmation, but it was the only recipe for this cocktail I could find from Three Dots and a Dash.
The classic Tropical Itch calls for a lot of passion fruit juice, a 151, and orange curacao. This updated version adds in some lemon juice, swaps out the curacao for tangerine juice and significantly dials back the amount of passion fruit juice. Technically the new version is not a simpler cocktail but it does dial back the volume of the drink quite a bit. It ends up as a juicy and delicious cocktail but also balanced. It's not too rummy, not too bourbon-y, and not too sweet. It's a strong summer sipper and something I will definitely be adding to the menu

Trader Joe’s sells an excellent tangerine juice, just FYI

I would think swapping in Okolehao for the bourbon could work as well.

This is delicious and will definitely be added to the rotation. I still haven't added a S&C to my collection so I used OFTD and I used Heaven Hill BIB. At some point I'll grab the S&C and try that too, just have too many other bottles at the moment. Thanks for sharing, cheers 🍹

I wonder if OFTD would have paired better with the bourbon but I don't think I've ever disliked a drink with S&C in it ... Another great episode, Derek!

Love Bourbon & Rum Drinks, will add this as a "drink to make" as that you don't see many split-base bourbon-rum drinks. I think you've made the Halekulani before but would definitely recommend trying out the Iron Ranger & Port Light if you get the chance!

Most certainly adding to my summer menu for the year. Excellent presentation. Also love the new format, where you build the cocktail first and the story later. Your story telling is on point as always, so I had to stick around for that.. Thank You so much.. !!!

All of the music I use is stock/royalty free from Epidemic Sound or Artlist. And all of it is "Shazamable" if looking for the exact song. I have hundreds of songs saved I pull from so I usually don't even know the name and by the time I'm adding the descriptions. I've also seen people straight up copy and paste my video descriptions and formatting, so I don't share too much in there.

A totally under-appreciated classic. While it's not up to the same standards as the Three Dots version, a guilty pleasure of mine is the Backscratcher, the version served at Disney World's Polynesian Village resort since the 1970s. Disney drinks from the '70s are typically awful, but not so with this one.

That recipe is unfortunately missing from my “Cooking with Mickey Around the World” book. It has a Mai Tai recipe that calls for 9 oz of water.

looks delicious but the annoying thing about cocktails sometimes is that there are different recipes all over the place for the same drink. Sippin' Safari makes a Tropical Itch with gin and white puerto rican rum. These are 2 totally different drinks lol. I love Smith & Cross and John D. Taylor's in anything so excited to try this one!

Yes they are totally different. They were made by different bartenders in different parts of the world. They just happen to have the same name. Probably coincidence.

The Tropical Standard update of this cocktail is outstanding, so I'm looking forward to trying this variation. Also, definitely check out the Port Light for a great bourbon-passionfruit tropical cocktail, if you haven't already.

@adamlindsley1143 it was a pretty common term in the early 1900s for a scabies like infection. The Scialom version came first but not much indication Yee copied any aspect of the drink. Prob just coincidence in naming.
