    I'm 59 , listening to this takes me back to where I was happiest. This by far was and is the greatest generation of music. It had feeling and dove itself into the hearts of all who lived thru the 80's. It will live on forever .❤

    Agreed. I'm 59 as well. The golden age of music, to me at least, fell in-between 1964 to 1989. A great 25 year period. The Beatles started it all. Early 90's grunge was the last really interesting genre of music, it's been a slow painful slide downward since then. But that is my opinion.

    The grammy they won for this version was well deserved. It's an incredibly beautiful song and I cannot believe it's 40 years old. I was in middle school when their hit Wishing ( I had a photograph) made its way onto the USA's airwaves and I've thanked the band ( in my heart and soul) every single day since then. Those of us who were blessed to be at the age when music was becoming just as influential to who we'd become as the hormones that were kicking in. My 80s musical taste comprised of the iconic sounds of New Wave, Punk, New Romantic, and Death Rock which all became part of my DNA. I am unapologetically proud to say that I am a card-carrying Gen Xer. I cannot wait to see you in February 2023!!

    The true beauty of this song was its staggering simplicity. It’s already a classic, no orchestra required. I’m so damn grateful I grew up during the 80’s. I got to see Star Wars as a kid and bought my first car in ‘86, all to the soundtrack of some of the best music ever recorded. It was so good, I learned how to build car stereo systems long before it became cool in the 90’s. It’s simply impossible to properly convey just how much fun they were to experience, now that we survived them. My first job was at McDonald’s, when the food tasted so much better than today. Marlboros were $1 a pack and smoking them was still cool. We still got side eye for smoking in school parking lot, which made it even cooler! Despite living thru all the dramatic change of the digital and internet ages, we ended up in some dark times. 😕

Some cold tops, a little smoke, and beautiful girls. Oh those were the times! We hooked up the tv/cable to the Pioneer home stereo and had a concert every night. What a phenomenal version, it’s just perfect. This just takes me back to the happiest times of my life. I remember shedding a few tears as the clock struck midnight and it was 1990. Even as kid I knew that the 80’s were special. I wish we could recap that magic and optimism.

    The band is fantastic and I have to say the Prague Philharmonics is wonderful in complimenting the music without being overwhelming. I love all the faces of the orchestra-especially the pretty lady at the beginning who looks so serious, the puffed cheeks of the brass, to the grinning bearded man on the Strings. It is a wonderful orchestra to combine with the Flock of Seagulls. I hope there will be an Ascension concern with all the performers. It is just a beautiful ensemble.

    Everyone who lived through the decade knows that there were really two 80s: the early 80s, a time of expanding boundaries and exploring the unknown, and the late 80s, a time of increasing conformity and narrowing options. To me, this song is one of the anthems of the early 80s -- half science, half mystery, and all magic. It's good to have you still with us and making music, boys -- you helped define an era, and we'll never forget.

  • @rapid13

    @rapid13

    Meh. I was there, and the "narrowing options" were nothing more than the shift away from New Wave and toward Glam/Hair Metal, which gave us even greater and more diverse musicality that peaked with Appetite for Destruction and Dr Feelgood, which then got crushed by Nirvana. Music evolves, as do musical tastes.
