The fence was a good idea, she has so many cars that I can only assume she had a habit of parking a car or two on the neighbors side before they put up the fence.

Ha! I installed a fence around my home. Before purchasing my home it was previously a foreclosure that sat empty for a number of years, and my neighbors took full advantage of that... parking in the driveway, adults and kids playing and dumping debris on the property, etc. Needless to say, they were upset when I installed the fence. I then realized neighbors who get upset about a fence being installed around SOMEONE ELSE'S property are butthurt because they can no longer take advantage of infringing on said property.

The title should read "Trashy homeowner feels trapped by fence used to block her blight out." It's funny she claims to be worried that his fence is going to drive down her junkyards property values. Truth be told if her yard looks this bad I'm sure her home is just as bad...who would want to move into a trash heap dump of a house! As her hair cut has not been updated since the 80's and that's about when she moved into the home so an educated guess tells me that the home hasn't been maintained or updated in 25+ years either.

Lots of shared driveways in my city...they’re known as “coal truck easements” where the coal delivery trucks used to back in to dump coal in the chutes for the furnaces & boilers. Nowadays, they are still easements. Neither neighbor can modify them in any way unless agreed upon (in writing) by both property owners and approved by the city. If that happens, the property lines are moved to the center of the easement and each property owner then gains legal right to do whatever they want with their half...except building permanent structures on it (garage, home addition, etc). You can build a fence (as long as it’s set 6” back from the line), plant shrubs, and so on. Hell, my neighbors across the street right now have a shared driveway and they’ve never had a problem - their rule is, no one can park in or otherwise block the shared portion of it. Once it splits off to each garage, do whatever you like. My buddy’s house in the neighboring city also has a shared driveway. He lived there for 9 years and his neighbor was a total prick...even they never had any issues with the driveway. My guess is that this has more to do with the lady having a salvage yard going on behind her house and that her neighbor got tired of looking at it. I don’t blame him at all. I put up a new fence in my backyard last summer for the same reason...my neighbor’s backyard is full of disgusting garbage - rusty metal, bags of garbage, his wife nude sunbathing, and a junky old chicken coup that’s falling apart. Zing!

She even said she can't get her boat out of the backyard because she needs access to his property for the fit... if anything she should be happy she got a free fence out of the deal I doubt she paid cent for it. I had a neighbor widen their driveway on to my land, he told me to screw myself, well at 6 AM the fence company came to install the fence, he called the police, the police said the court order was good and the fence company installed the fence, he couldn’t get his car out and had to hire a crane to lift it out to the street. Long story short, I told him to pay for the new survey, lawyer fees and the land, total of $6,000, well he said we will go to court, well the judge ruled in my favor, it cost him $86,000 ! His attorney warned him just to pay the $6,000 and be done with it, some idiots don’t learn !!!

She has NO ROOM for boat storage. His right to enter and exit with an auto to get to work, far outweighs her right to have a boat at home. I was in a "shared drive" situation just like that. Come to find out, when I sold that house, the other person using my driveway had zero rights to use it. She was renting and the house she was renting had been built in the era of horse and buggy so had no garage as my home did. It went to mediation when the closing on my house transpired, and she had to beg me to sign a waiver for her to be able to drive her car to the back of her rental property. I just sold and moved to the country. No more city life for me. I lived there two years and it was 2 years too long.

His fence is not cutting of the use of her property, her boat is supposed to be in a boat storage center not in her backyard or driveway. The fence didn't cross into her property line and her SUV is able to get in and out. She probably park too much into the neighbor's side that he doesn't have room to park their vehicle and that's why he built fence to give her a guideline of where her parking space stops and their's begin (like a white line on a parking lot). That's the reason why one car park facing forward because parking space is so small and narrow to maneuver in and out. Not alot of wiggle room or room for error when getting in and out of driveway. Parking backwards makes easier to get in and out.

Take your time when looking to buy a house, never buy one with a shared driveway. Buy one that has privacy fence or put up one as soon as you move in, it doesnt matter if they wanna share the cost or not, its for your own benefits. I bought mine already fenced but its too low, about 5 feet only, I'm not comfortable going out to my backyard them seeing me or seeing them first thing everytime. So I decided to build a new one much higher even shouldering all the cost. No regrets! Now Im happy and have a privacy and get along with my neighbors (left and right side) except the one next to the one on my left, heis snob rude and slob, throwing his thrashes next to my garage and all over the place everytime he drives by, good thing hes not next to me!

I moved into the house wanting to have peace of mind, but now all I do is advocate against emboldening criminals and druggies. My neighbor yelled at me for that.. Stated how am I gonna get around the side of my home??? So he uses my property to easily move around his???? Then his gutters were drained on my property.. I just loved telling him to remove that now.. I had to re do my drains.. Flooding and all.. water to the street.. and my lines were not able to accommodate his and mine.. So i just plugged it up..finished my water lines.. He was not a nice person.. If he was id help out..

It's a bit confusing, they said it was minor maintenance and modification, but he moved it 4ft, so should require a new permit. Regardless, if the shared drive is only so many feet long on the deed, then the neighbor is within their right to put up a fence on the rest of the property line. It seems ridiculous to pack your yard with cars, but assuming that's why she purchased this property, is understandably now quite upset.
