    My dad was given a year to live with lung cancer at the age of 62 and given a year to live, that was 13 months ago and he's still with us and going strong. I was a bit scared to watch this video but I'm glad I did. It makes me realize that there are people all around me who might be going through utterly horrible things and yet we all keep moving forward.

  • @UMBR.

    @UMBR.

    Been through similar. I have read many stories of people with advanced/stage 3 and 4 lung cancers and yet have lived for 10, 20, 30+ plus years. Obviously not everyone does. And statistics never look good for any type of cancer which is why it is wise to not go searching on the Internet. It will only scare you and you don't need to be dealing with that. But, as doctors say, statistics are just numbers. They tell a tiny part of the story and they don't take into account individual stories, deviations from the statistics. Besides, statistics are also out of date by the time they are published. There literally is reason to have hope.

I have it for life, as well, but at this time in my life it is mild usually. It used to be major. So there are things you can do to modulate and reduce it.

    @M B Yes. In the UK palliative care is changing its thinking to the emphasis on living rather than dying. Dying offers the impression that you are awaiting for this event to happen and nothing else matters. There is however a life to experience inbetween that, as indeed what we have been doing since birth, so no change there. So just carry on living until it ends one day. I just feel that you are dying only when youve been told that.

    If you catch it early, you win. My prostate was enlarged and had a hard rough spot. A biopsy diagnosed prostate cancer in 2013, even though my PSA was just 3.5 which is close to normal. Removed the prostate (RALP) and all margins and lymph nodes were clean - although it nearly breached the capsule - so no further treatment was required. I am one of the lucky ones. My surgeon said “You can put this in your rear view mirror now.” So I did. All I need is an annual ultra sensitive PSA blood test. I wish all prostate cancer patients could be so lucky as me.

    *Thank you Kev!* My father died of Lung Cancer at 52. I was 26. He was extremely stoic during his 4 year battle (he was given 4 months), and the only time he complained was when he was in pain ("I feel like a steel rod is being shoved through my chest"), and needed his meds, inhaler, more oxygen, etc. He remained positive and never told me what he was thinking. *(I never realized he had thoughts like this)* The only thing he shared was the morning he died. I was feeding him breakfast. Oh gawd.. I do not know if I have ever shared this. I asked him, "Are you scared?". He paused, took my hand, looked me straight in the eyes, and with one word, "Yes." He then had me leave. After 4 years of being his 24 hour nurse, daughter, best friend, only child of a single father, and caregiver; he did not want me to see him die. *Oh how angry I was.* Took me 14 years to realize it was his final gift to me. oh dad... 2/15/1953 to 2/13/2006 yup.. 2 days before his 53rd birthday.

    I lost my Mom to lung cancer too (1953-2017). She died 6 weeks after being diagnosed. She never left the hospital in those 6 weeks. She was so brave even though she was terrified. She died in Poland and hospital staff (most of them) were awful. Not interested in helping her or us. The last week of her life while being in palliative care unit they were giving her tablets even though she couldn’t swallow any more. I don’t even know if she was getting painkillers any other way. She never complained about the pain. And she only broke down once 😭. They treated her as if she was invisible😢. Any time i wanted to argue with them or complain she would stop me saying “you can go home but I’m stuck here with them and it would only make things worse”. I still get emotional thinking about the way she was treated there. I miss her sooooooo much 😭😢😭😭😭

When you have something inside you slowly killing you, I really do think keeping your body as fit as possible is the best thing you can do (physically and mentally). It’s important to know you can’t control it though. One good thing about all this is it really does give you perspective on life. You immediately cut out all the shit and toxic people from your life. In a way, it’s strangely liberating.

    Ive just come across your vid, whilst on a day off...and it brought me to tears. I'm 66, still in full-time employment (though under notice of redundancy from Sept 14 2021) and in relatively good health.....but have been feeling sorry for myself. I am lonely! Despite having a great,close family and work colleagues,the only person I truly, deeply, loved and wanted to marry, told me, after 4 years together (and engaged for 1 year) that she wanted to be on her own...she no longer wanted me to be part of her life. This absolutely shattered me and still,after 4 years, I cannot come to terms with the loss. But after watching your video, I realise how small, stupid & irrelevant all my worries are. I love you....for your humanity, your perseverance, your refusal to accept your situation...but above all....for your dignity. I wish I could meet up with you....I'd love to buy you a pint (Or 2 😉) Thankyou...and go on, keep living that wonderful life you so richly deserve.

The covid restrictions suck at times and we are allowed to be annoyed about it and have a moan. It doesn't mean we are taking our lives for granted. There has and always will be someone far worse off than you and I out there at all times, it doesn't mean you don't deserve the right to be upset about something effecting your life or be made to feel guilty about it. From personal experience, 'Chemo' can be a real bitch! I was lucky, my Chemo wasn't that drastic - but I've seen what it can do to others. The major problem at the moment as I see it, is that Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy are the best choices we have. Hopefully, with all the advances being made, the next generation will have a smoother 'ride'. Who knows, in a couple of generations, CURING ALL forms of cancer may take little more than a course of injections/pills. Thing is though, IF that comes to pass, then nature will surely find another way of stopping us outstaying our welcome on this planet! :-)

  • @page8301

    @page8301

    You are looking it from a limited perspective of a very few cases vs millions of cases. Chemo is brutal. You are literally poisoning yourself just enough to hopefully kill the cancer but not yourself. Despite the big drawbacks, by an large it does improve the overall chances to survive cancer. Medical research is of course going on and hopefully in the not so distant future we find a much better treatment option, but until then, chemo alongside surgery and radiation therapy are the only workable treatments at the moment.

    There are other treatments starting to become more common, at least for certain cancers! These treatments target the cancer more specifically, and therefore leave the rest of you in better shape than chemo and radiation tend to.

At 29 years old I am still such a naive young person who worries about such inconsequential things, and seeing this man with the strength in his spirit and his extraordinary achievements just put me to shame and bring me to tears. What a man, if I can have the guts like him to get up and keep going like this even when things are inconceivably tough, then I would be blessed! It's so easy to neglect and underappreciate life when it gets stressful, and that is a terrible thing. Thank God for inspiring people like this man, and I hope he has more fulfilling and treasured years to come so he can spend more time with his loved ones and watch his children grow up for a while longer.

Look up how to deprogram water. One of the best, urine therapy,look up shivambu. Im vegetarian and i had no problem drinking it after i read about it. Also laughing, comedies, i like tommy tiernan, frankie boyle. And what did it for me, fasting and focusing on our creator. Creation is nothing special. Our creator is everything. Search for the creator. Let go of all opinions, hates, obsessions, clear the mind of wordly desires and a new reality will fill that space. I did no medical treatments. Cancer free, previously terminal. Your dads lucky to have someone who loves him so much. Im sure that will give him great strength.

    God I cried like a baby watching this. My mother has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and was given 3 months to live. That was 3 and half years ago and she has 26 chemo sessions a year. She still gets up and moves and cooks dinner almost every night because that's what she likes to do. It just really shows me that I have no excuses. For awhile I was very depressed and bad into pain killers but she was still there supporting me even through her sickness. Now I help her as much as I can because that's what I like to do. Just never give up guys, it may seem dark and hopeless at the moment but the light could be right around the corner.

    This was a humbling and inspiring story of a guy who wouldn't lie down and die but drew strength, determination and resilience from his situation to fight and make the most of what life they said he had left. The goals he set himself both physically and mentally have no doubt given him these extra years. If a writer wrote this story as a screenplay for a movie, it would be considered far fetched and pretty much impossible. I sincerely salute this guy!
