The way Martin moves is exactly how I picture him. Always in motion, awkward because he is so aware of where his body is. Also, the way the last "Sorry" was given context in this animation is a whole another level.

Evrything about this is so quintessentially S1 magnus archives it hurts. You did absolutely superbly. The expressions and movements are PERFECT

The audience laughing really makes this feel like a sitcom and i LOVE it.

Now this is Jonathan Sims. A lot of artists have very good interpretations of him, but this is the first one I've seen that fits how I imagined him perfectly. Excellent video keep it up

@@KingOfTheBirds72 I saw someone on Reddit draw how they pictured him in each season and about every other season, they had him dressing like a grandma with a sweater and long skirt. It's fine for them to picture him that way, but I have wonder how they got that idea.

i LOOOVE that the larger guy's defining line on their neck is a soft shade rather than a hard line. it really really sells the softness of their features! i've never thought to do that

Now I have this hilarious image of this being a sign taped up somewhere in the archives for the whole series. Tim made it, and It gets progressively more deterioration as the story progresses.

i haven't listened to the magnus archives, but holy shit!! the amount of character in their body language and expressions is nothing short of extraordinary!! you did a wonderful job on this, keep up the outstanding work!!

Interacting with TMA content before Ive even finished watching season 1 is such a dangerous game because most of the spoilers don't even mean anything. The jumps required to get from A to B are so drastic that I could not possibly piece together the information I currently have to come up with how they would happen beyond guesses. The amount of implications raised by the phrase "real sasha" alone are so vast (pun intended) that I can only be intrigued on how the fuck we could possibly get there sksjjs (this goes without saying but please don't explain anything to me lmao)

The Magnus Archives is a work place comedy

I'm literally in love with your Martin. His physicality I can completely relate to, acting things out to try and make Jon understand. The way he moves and smiles and makes himself more approachable despite being so tall and God, his face!!! His beautiful face!!!!! I am in love!!! Jon's there and gorgeous and lovely, a wonderful contrast to martins movement and energy with his sternness, but just!! MAHTIN!!! I'm so in love

this is incredible! the way you animate all their expressions and body language is just, mwah, chefs kiss

The "camera" and character positioning in this is FANTASTIC, and Martin in particular is so animated that this feels more like, well, an animation than an animatic. I adooooooore their designs, too!!!

Artist tip!! I draw arcs and curves when I plan character movements! It makes it look more natural--only robots move in perfect straight lines. So when the larger man (Martin) is talking about the dog, his hands move around invisible curves, and when he leans back and around, you can track the motion of his head around an invisible circle!!! I also filmed myself acting out both parts for inspiration AND I keep a mirror at my desk to make faces into to check while I draw!

Hey just so you know, this animatic is what made me start listening to the Magnus Archives. You captured Jon like you were an anomalous entity. Seriously, those expressions are divine.

You literally got me to binge the entire podcast in a week because of this wonderful board. Utterly fantastic, and also I am crushed. 100000/10, can't wait to see more of what you make. Your Jon and Martin designs are simply my favorite of the fandom (I'm not biased... nooooo)

Ahh, season 1. When I still had hope this would be a a fun lighthearted show about some coworkers becoming friends while dealing with some spooky creatures.

Ah, I love these designs! And their faces are so expressive! Also, Martin's gesturing as he explains how the dog got in is the most endearing thing in the world

Martins movements are SO GOOD

I have no idea who these characters are or where this audio is from but I'm now obsessed with both

the way Jon went from: >:[ to this: >:3 like yes I am The Jonathan Sims. and was so proud of that fear factor.

oh my god I just watched this and like, the voice acting is already immaculate (the hesitancy, pacing out the story slowly, the sharp inhales and exhales of annoyance, gah) but this character work really brings it all to life spectacularly! I love the shape language of the two characters, further playing into their personalities and I love the little visual jokes of indicating how the dog got past martin, and martin's second sorry being interpreted as him turning around and going the other way...I haven't even listened to TMA but I'm intrigued now, this was wonderfully!!

The Martin expressions are spot on. Especially his clueless smile while his braincell catches up to Jon threatening to fire him

Omg. this is. PERFECTION. I love your Jon and Martin so freaking much, exactly how I envisioned them. It's genuinely like you've pulled them out of my brain and breathed life into them, it's so good. I also saw a comment about Jon's "eyebrow raise of judgyness" and I wholeheartedly agree. While I'm at it, Martin's movements are *chefs kiss*. And not only that; you've managed to capture both their characterizations simply through their expressions and mannerisms. Not an easy thing to do!! I particularly love the way Martin visually shows Jon how he held open the door with his leg. And then there's the way Jon's eyes dart to the side right before he says "no you don't". OH and the way his face changes after Martin says "I mean, yeah, probably." Like it's so subtle but oh my god is it GOOD. Sorry for this mess of a comment, I just really, really loved this! ^.^ Amazing job

My god, I am stunned by your animation. The natural movements are perfection, and body language is speaking VOLUMES. Do block out their movements in your mind ahead of time? I adore the blocking, Jonathan standing and sitting back down, Martin’s recreation of the dog thing, his constant gesturing with his hands. Really, I’m just blown away. You have such a gift, thank you for sharing it with us!

I sketch out the blocking very rough first! Sometimes I will video myself for acting reference--in this case, the shot of Martin's explanation--and the rest is drawn from imagination!

i think this is what finally pushed me to listen to the magnus archives and my god i have 0 regrets. after watching this it stuck in my head and after a while i remembered it again and decided to give the podcast a try. im on season 4 now, almost to the end, and the whole time your designs are what ive been imagining and its really helped me get immersed, so thanks!
