A difference from an unusual place | Luis Gonzalez | TEDxGraterfordStatePrison

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Luis Gonzalez, Graterford State Prison resident, had to hit bottom before he could heal. In his talk, "A Difference from an Unusual Place,'' Gonzalez speaks about his rise from an illiterate trouble-maker to a college graduate, now working to help young people chose education over incarceration through an inmate scholarship program.

Dang man. Thank you for inspiring me not to give up. Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed by so many responsibilities and by kids who don't seem to care or appreciate that I take time away from my family to try and do something for them, to try and help them, but you helped me put things back in perspective. They're kids and like you said, we all have a reaponsibility and are accountable to God (I added the God part) for their futures. God bless you bro. Keep up the good fight brother. Thank you man.

Most of the juvenile lifers deserve a second chance! Met so many in my journey and they're sincere. Society needs to remember that these are people too! Our brothers, sisters, cousins, mom's, dad's, etc.

You will be glad to know alot of lifers have made it home may have taken a while but they made it out and I personally know a few of them and I can say those few I know are doing good and have not been in any trouble and are wonderful fathers that are taking full advantage of being given they second chance back in society.

You should learn more about his case before you judge this Man. He was only 16 and its actually unclear if he shoot the young men who died. I encourage you to hear the podcast Suave about his story. Its easy to come from a płace of Judgment- our systemy and social networks are unhealthy and kids like this are the result .

You need to listen to the entire podcast. The police report says he was NOT the shooter and named the person who did it. Suave stuck to the code and did not tell. He did the time andndeserves a second chance. Not to mention the judge was crooked.
