For those who wanted to make martial arts especially striking arts, learning all kind of kicks is for knowing all kicks so one can be called knowledgeable especially those who wanted to teach the art. But for for those who want to learn functional self defense art, one should only learn the basic kind of kicking: frontal kick, side kick, round kick, back kick and turning back kick. These will already response any situation needing kicking response. Kick the mid-level of your opponent especially the bladder area, floating ribs, and the kidney area. Kicking high exposes the groin. Kick high for flexibility training but kick more on mid-level developing fast and powerful kicks. beware of people who are very good in kicking defense especially on a one-on- one street fight. kick mid level or lower. If you want to hit the face do it with your arm and hand. let your feet always on the ground for stability. if you fall like a log on the ground, you lose your footwork and mobility, thus your efficiency to fight.

Im a yaw yan practiotioner, but i created my own system of using it, the same thing you said.. i focus my kicks on the mid and lower section.. and my main target is the groin, knee cap,the side of the knee cap, thigh, ans in the upper level i always go for the throat.. i study martial arts not to use it on sports.. i want it to be deadly enough

@@nairobigurkas6557 That is good bro. you want to be deadly. I am not a fighter but I wanted, in case, to have a functional self defense. I subscribe to the Okinawans of kicking middle at the bladder area---none is hard in that area, for frontal or side kick, and for roundhouse(using the tip of the toe or shoe as impact point) i'll go for the floating ribs and the kidney area. For hand strike, the close fist is standard but one should train their extended knuckles and spear hand to weaponized the fist. I am trying to simplify martial arts to only a few areas to focus and maximize training.

There are no dogmas in fighting. If you're a good grappler, the ground isn't your end and if you're a good kicker, your balance should be good enough to throw head kicks with ease.

made black belt in 75 under Yamashita shorin-ryu. My comment is simple; on the street , almost all confrontations go to the ground intentional or not. Be prepared with strength training leading to choke holds and strikes as in ju jitsui, much elbow and hammer fist. Not pretty but most practical. 4 years of high school wrestling helped

I mean, you see this shit in MMA all the time lol. What, you think no one is chucking round kicks, hook kicks, front kicks and all that? None of this is unusual in the least bit, save for the exceptional balance and control of the legs.

Bro you don't know yaw Yan yet and the history of how it growing in the Philippines, they are like a gang they fight in a real street fights rumble.. yaw Yan vs gangsters mostly happening in Cebu City... Yaw Yan saves my life many times.. the basic kicks are more effective in street fights like roundhouse, forward roundhouse, frontal kick trust or heel, back kicks.. but the other kicks like hook kick are effective to use not in the situation that ur opponent are not tired.. the exhibition kicks are hard to block when your opponent is tired.. so you should use it wisely.. all the ticnics are effective but it depends to the person who use it..
