Let's see what Rockstar had done to create this underwhelming remastered: -They removed old games from most stores, so they leave players with no choice but buying this remastered version. -They took down all mods from old games for no appropiate reasons. -They decided to outsource this remaster to inexperience studio who also responsible for shitty mobile port and the previous crap remaster as well. -They HAVE all the money to create a remake, but they decided to do the easy way for easy money. -No matter how you look at it, even tho there are 3 games, $60 for this crap is way too much, especially for the lazy remaster and 20 years old games (Just leave people option to buy the old games dammit!). -To add more wounds, remastered version didn't even fix bugs from old games, in fact they added some more, although it's not a bug but the new draw distance makes the game looks ugly.

I'm glad that the Definitive Edition is hated. I almost thought that people were actually enjoying it unironically. I was about to rant at some disingenuous, dense mofos.

So that’s why the mobile versions run terrible on every new phone. I can understand why it could be hard to optimize them for android with hundreds devices, but even for iOS with few phones and tablets it works like shit

When rockstar said it was going to be a mix of old and new graphics, I imagined better lighting, weather, and more refined textures. But unsurprisingly, they made it worse than I could possibly imagine from a billion dollar company

Not defending Rockstar, but they didn't do the remaster, it was Grove Street Games but doesn't change the fact that both Rockstar and GSG are both in fault, also GSG thinking that AI for upscaling the textures is a good idea.

I find it hilarious that they called it the "definitive edition." They could have called it literally anything else but its super ironic that the "definitive edition" is the worst version made.

There are some incredible remakes out there. Spyro being one of them. I would also like to add Wonder Boy, The Dragons Trap. It looks super sharp and the re-made music and sounds is just amazing. It uses the exact same physics as it used back on the Sega Master System. You can even switch the graphics and sound between old and new. It is a masterpiece. A true GTA 3 remake alone would be worth $70 to me, if it was on par with Spyro or Dragons Trap.

I miss the good old days when you can buy a dvd back home and have a complete game experience without some obvious bugs and fatal glitches

We're at the point where companies as big as EA, Bethesda and Rockstar KNOW they are too big to fail. They can re-release the same game over, and over, and over. People will buy it. They can offload the remaster of threee of their most popular and beloved games to a company who half assed the 360 version of San Andreas and has proven they are incompetent in game design. Doesn't matter. They'll just remove the original games from the store, threaten to sue any modders who made graphical mods and force those down. Giving you no choice BUT to buy the remaster. Whether it sucks ass or not, people will buy it. Effort and passion are not a requirement. All the old talent at Rockstar left. Dan Houser, Lazlow Jones. Everything POST RDR2 from Rockstar will likely suck ass because that's when they all left. Now Rockstar will just release half assed shit, and milk GTA Online. I'm not even excited for GTA 6 at this point because it'll likely lack all the old Rockstar Charm. No one who made the games since GTA V are there anymore. RIP.

Major lighting issues. Some of the old ambient light doesn't translate to the new lighting system, so entire areas are just super under-lit. It needed finessing, not someone saying "oh that's out of scope".

This is absolute proof that it is morally acceptable to pirate all of Rockstar's games. As Gabe Newell famously said, piracy is a service problem. When the experience from pirates is better in every way than the "legitimate" offerings, that is damning of the company, and they need to do better if they want your money.

Anyone that looked into who made these Remasters had a feeling this was coming. Grove Street Games (formerly known as "War Drum Studios") made the previous mobile ports and the HD ports (for modern consoles) of the OG GTA games. Anyone who looked critically at those ports (Vladim among others) saw a broken mess with zero love for what these games were.

It’s honestly incredible how with recent events at R* from the departure of beloved producers to the release of this “remaster” managed to absolutely DECIMATE the company from beloved to no better than EA and Activision

I recently bought the deal on playstation 4 for the 3 games before the trilogy came out, it was just the 3 old games in their original condition. I quite enjoyed them but felt flustered by the graphics and wonder to how I put up with them as a kid. Clearly the newly released trilogy had its pros and cons and a few can say mainly cons but I still don’t know if I should buy it cuz one voice in my head is saying “oh over time they will surely fix this stuff and I can enjoy the game” but gta 5 had a lot of problems and very little updates so why would they work so hard on gta San Andreas ?

Imagine trying to sue modders who have love and passion trying to improve your game, so you can release this hot mess.

Saddest thing is that the originals were pulled from steam so i can't even buy san Andreas on steam. So neither can you play the OG version, nor the remaster. Very nice.

I got myself original, physical copies of II, VC and SA last year, as I couldn't get them through R* Launcher. I can still access and play them if I want to and I'm happy with it. I was also happy to see the remasters coming, but before I'd spend $60 on them, I'll watch all the experiences of others

The weird thing to me is that Rockstar either makes 10/10 masterpieces or 1/10 cash grabs. There are not other scenarios. Ubisoft for example makes consistent 6/10 games. But you know as a consumer that the games might not be the best, but they are still really enjoyable. Rockstar on the other hand is a 50/50 dice roll where you can expect either a masterpiece or a lazy cashgrab.

At 5:57, the company behind Mafia (2002) and (2020) actually have a shit because those people actually knew how good their franchise is and are not cash grabbers like R*. Mafia really deserves more love, it's not a gta online but rather a refreshing game for people who haven't experienced the 2002 Mafia properly. I feel proud more people are actually talking about Mafia 1 and about how you referenced it. Keep up !

Remember that CoD exists. Basically the same game every year yet everyone buys it. If Rockstar releases GTA 6 millions of people will buy it regardless if its good or not. As long as it exists and has a decent trailer it'll probably sell very high. Thats just how games like this work.

The fact that Matt's hair is even wilder than this R* remaster is beyond me.

I played through Vice City and no game breaking glitches occurred. Aside from some annoying missions it was an enjoyable experience! I just started San Andreas today and I agree the brightness is an issue and there seems to be more bugs along with bad lag on occasion. San Andreas could use an update later on and it might be a more pleasurable experience.

Rockstar knew what they had on their hands and said “yeah, this is acceptable, and a great way to honor the original games”

CDPR and Valve still fit into the first category, while Take2, Activision-Blizzard and Bethesda gladly fill the role for the second

I’m so glad I paid for the Original Trilogy at half the cost of Definitive Edition long before Rockstar would have tried taking them from me... Now I actually have freedom of choice when it comes to if i want to buy Definitive Edition or not... You can probably guess what my answer is... If you guessed that I wouldn’t play Definitive Edition even if they gave it to me for free you guessed correctly... Cause it really does look like a huge downgrade to the Original Trilogy versions released on PS4 and Xbox One... Edit: Even if they do remove my option to play the Original Trilogy on PS4 and PS5 I have the classic PS2 versions from 2002-2004 being the era from Gta 3 to San Andreas without all the changes that Rockstar made like the Cuban Haitian friendly change in the newer versions of Vice City... I still win...

Alot game companies usually do maintenance breaks, but usually before a major release or update and they will warn people about it. Not a couple of hours after with no warning

Definitive is also not a bad game because the core game itself is not bad, doesn't mean the port/remaster/remake or w/e they call it is good, it just means the original game was.

Worst part is when I pointed out many issues of the remasters, someone told me "you're just a GTA5 kid that isn't used to old games" and I was like BOI! I have been in the GTA modding community for 13 years! I know that AAA products should not look like this! Edit: The reason people can't get more that 30 fps is because past that the physics break. Once again "professional" game devs couldn't fix a 20 yo bug in a new engine that fans fixed in the original engine years ago.

"you're not used to old games" What kind of logic is that? The whole point of remastering a game is so it's not old anymore. If we wanted to play a game with Technological issues and limitations we'd just keep the originals, why spent money on the remaster then?

The checkpoints were already in mobile ports. Yes, i think that mobile ports are still "better" than this. Maybe worse graphics but they still have the atmosphere and loading screens in sa.

The Mafia one. I have played all three mafias and mafia 2 vendetta too. Mafia 1 remake was like so amazing. I was surprised to see mafia 1 remake and I had so much fun completing mafia remastered. It was like the game just lighten up. Like it got a new soul. A new body.

The definitive Edition is Like my home work in lockdown: shitty looking, copied from something That already exists, no effort put into and done just to be able to say something was done

When you think GTA3 was the first 3D GTA and was a milestone in gaming and then Vice City just upped the anti and was such an iconic game loved by everyone and then GTA San Andreas came along and had so many great characters and stars voicing them and just blew everything out of the water with its size and content, it's hard to believe that Rockstar would allow these 3 unbelievably classic games to be treated so badly is a fuckin joke. To this day, even the netflix version of definitives crash randomly, has rendering bugs at "the wrong side of the tracks", san fierro, las venturas, and the list goes on.

Keep in mind, GTA 5, in 2020 alone, generated $911 million for its developer Rockstar Games. They had the money to do it right, but they outsourced it, and accepted a dumbed down version, and then released it to eager fans. Shame on Rockstar. The new Tommy Vercetti looks more like Minecraft Steve than he looks like the old Tommy. The environment looks good. I appreciate some effort there, but the rain and the character models? Holy.. weapon wheel? Choice. Checkpoints and auto-saving? Excellent. But literally I want to light a bag of dog crap on fire and put it on Rockstar's front porch. They pranked us. We should prank them.

well its probably because the company/studio that made the remaster was the one that also made rockstar's GTA mobile ports

One thing that stresses me out in San Andreas is the gunmen automatically beaming you especially when you're in loading in on a checkpoint

They had to remove the Hot Coffee files that they left in from the (what was essentially) File Dump from OG San Andreas

Dan Houser and other creative masterminds are missed in this sad times. I wonder what they think about the attrocities Rockstar is comitting to their creations.

You also cannot deny that Rockstar cared about RDR2 despite its flaws. Since Houser and company left, Rockstar stopped giving a shit as you can See now with this trainwreck.

I got my fill of these games 20 years ago when they were originally released. I have no interest in paying for them again, aswell as no interest in playing them anytime soon. if I ever do, I'll re-install them on steam. I've almost given up hope on GTA6, if it ever does get released i'll be waiting to see reviews before buying it.

Im wondering if its just the Videos or my speakers. Like the originals even for their age still sound clean and have good audio, but i look at Trilogy and its like i have Bass like sound everywhere, and just something else on top of it.

I watched a stream of San Andreas remastered on Twitch without knowing that that there is a remastered Version of it and thought the Streamer installed a mod that changes the Graphic. It just looks like a badly modded version of GTA lol. Edit: holy f that sh!t costs 60dollars hahaha

It’s such a shame. GTA III and Vice City’s remasters are actually pretty good. There a few character models in it that are bad and the rain at night makes it impossible to see clear, and the San Andreas sound effects on the menu are annoying but other than that, it’s pretty damn good. But San Andreas from what I’ve seen seems absolutely terrible. Bad textures, glitches, and several terrible character models and no expressions. And this whole fiasco with RGL is inexcusable.

It's actually a remake, pretending badly to be a remaster. See, there's a confusion in terms here. These games are only "remasters" in the sense that there are no deliberate improvements *, but they are re-MAKES in the sense that all the polygon data were imported over to a modern engine and then re-assembled into something like the original game, with missions, and cutscenes, and pick-ups. Not from scratch, but a lot of it. The ORIGINAL facial animations were based on the old "mirror-image"-style faces that were used in San Andreas. Grove Street *made the decision to update the facial textures to be asymmetrical more like real faces, but they didn't then go to the effort of re-creating all the facial animations for their new faces (because THAT would be unnecessary improvements, I guess?) In other words, it's not a direct PORT as we would consider a true remaster, but what we actually have is closer to one of those YT videos that "recreates GTA in Unreal Engine in 10 hours". And I wouldn't be at all surprised if Grove Street Games off-shored all their development. That's why this fake remaster is so janky and doesn't feel like a remaster at all, because it's a bad remake.

I’m currently using a pirated exe as to circumvent them it’s crazy we have to resort to this. I’m literally using a no cd crack in a legit version of the game like wtaf their incompetence is amazing.

Random question for the video game community: Before cloud-based game downloads (for consoles), how were games patched or fixed during cartridge or disc days? Or were there no fixes and the game was expected to essentially be “perfect” before release?

Rockstar: removes old versions of classic gta's on steam and charge 50 USD to buy the remasters on their launcher and then remove the games. Piracy: don't you worry kiddo , i got you covered.

If they knew they were releasing something good, they wouldn't have gone around throwing lawsuits at modders.
