@sleepypotato7183 it's somewhat smart from a business perspective. Release something extremely bad to lower expectations to new lows and then Release something like GTA 6 which is gonna be much better seeing as Rock* are working on it themselves and would probably have it be RDR2 quality. Maybe not in story, but at least in gameplay and graphics. People will eat up the name alone, GTA6.

My biggest problem with this GTA: Defective edition is not the bugs nor even the rain. It's the complete loss of style and atmosphere of the originals. GTA III was gray and dingy. Vice City (my favorite) was bright, sunny, neon, but with a feeling of seediness under the polish. San Andreas was brown, dusty, and each area of the map had it's own, distinct personality. But, now, all three games look exactly the same. No personality whatsoever.

See, I’m noticing something about all these shitty games and remakes/remasters coming out in the last couple of months before the end of the year: they tend to be rushed and unpolished and damn near unplayable because they have a holiday deadline that the developers’ corporate overlords want the games to be released by, especially by studios that haven’t released a big new product in over a year. You saw this happen with W3R and Cyberpunk 2077 and now this Defective Edition of the GTA trilogy. Corporatization of the gaming industry is seriously affecting the quality of games, and I fucking hate it

Only standards Rockstar see, is Online shark cards income. For 8 years, they still didnt polished GTA Online. They laughed at Driver Series, True Crime and Saints Row series, but now Rockstar is taking everything from open world sandboxes and add it to gta online.

@@tonyeight9979 20 years ago, Rockstar set up open world formula, that many devs took inspiration. Our standards were good, when time to time, Rockstar added mod showcase on their Newswire, but since GTA Online, Rockstar become same corp, they used to make jokes in their games.

“Your justifiably high standards” uh no the standards weren’t high, being able to actually play the 20 year old games you payed 60 dollars for was the baseline expectations

I think they meant on release. So far, Rockstar haven't released something that's broken and buggy on launch. Other than RDO. The GTAO release was plagued by server issues but that's about it. Rockstar don't release trash with their main, singleplayer titles, the $60 price tag either meant disaster crash grab or a flawless remaster. I guess we all know which one it ended up being.

Nah gaming expectations are so fucked rn. Thousands of tweets were upset about the games not being on the fucking gta 5 or read dead 2 engine. If this game was exactly as advertised and worked perfectly people would still be upset. Gaming fans have grew so fucking fickle over the years and it gets worse every year.

Battlefield 2042 and now this It really feels like gaming is coming to an end, no one truly cares about putting time and effort into their games, just rushing everything for money.

There's still good game developers that care about their community, some of them are Unknown Worlds Entertainment, Saber Interactive and Santa Monica Studio. Unknown Worlds made Subnautica (both of them), Saber Interactive made Snowrunner, and Santa Monica Studio of course made God of War. Also Playground Games care about their fanbase with their Forza Horizon games.

4:02 Rockstar's problem is that they wanted to release before Thanksgiving to make sure they got as many holiday sales as possible and no amount of bugs was going to stop them. It's one of the main reasons I try not to buy games released around the holidays, because they get released based on a timeline and not based on whether the game is actually finished.

Sadly, releasing a game broken and then patching it has become the industry standard. We just need to stop buying games until a year or two after release

I said that those instances were used to discredit EVERY SINGLE TLOU2 criticism (story, dialogue, writing, pacing, lack of innovation in gameplay, lack of different enviroments, unlikeable characters, ect.), which were in WAY greater number than all sexist/homophobic comments. It is the most damning indictment. Heck they could have engaged with modders, licensed their work and compiled it into an official release. But no, Cockstar thought they could shit out the laziest port imaginable and get away with charging $60 for it.

I feel like the biggest stab in the gut is the fact they took no effort and I mean NO EFFORT in remastering the audio, I understand you may not have the originial files, but after years of progression in auditorial editing and y'all can't decompress at least the gunshots?

I highly doubt it. The reason they were hired, instead of Rockstar doing it themselves, was to reduce costs. And as a developer myself I get the feeling that they probably went through hell. Low salaries, tight deadlines, a lot of corporative restrictions. We're talking about working on 3 different games with the same release date. With a small MOBILE developing team with few experience. Out of all this deal they deserve the least hate. The corporative decisions of Rockstar and TT are at full blame. They had the money to invest on the right amount of manpower for the job.

Its so absolutely heartbreaking seeing each and every one of my favorite game developers as a child and teenager becoming crooked, lazy, greedy, corporate, censoring d-bags.. I'm 24 now and I hardly game at all now because of this.. Seems like all the good companies are either out of business, now AAA trash that I mentioned above, or indie developers who *want* to make things better but they lack the team, time, and resources to make it happen. *RIP EA, and Dice by extension. Ubisoft. Activision, and treyarch/infinity ward by extension. Rockstar. Bethesda. And seemingly even CDProjektRed now.*

Man....in all honesty, they took games that were literally gold and turned them into trash. Imagine how bad and half assed GTA 6 will be. They literally just had to make improvements to an already impeccable series, and managed to screw it up. My expectations for GTA 6 are rock bottom. And it really is a shame.

i doubt there will be graphical bugs. Rockstar hired a third party to do the remasters.

It doesn't surprise me, when they tried to fix the animals spawn in RDO they literally destroyed the game for a day, it was unplayable, I couldn't count the amount of bugs I found in 15 minutes

We were supposed to have a competitor in Saints Row, but now that they've chosen to go down a "different" road, the GTA intellectual property and quality are going to slam through the floor. I don't think competition will make a difference at this point. The main creative talent is almost all gone, 99.9999% of their resources go into GTA Online which now feels more like an unfocused game adaptation of Ready Player One than a GTA release and they've lost decades of fan loyalty to their brand. I honestly don't think the corporate clowns who have taken over R*, the same ones who had a shitty mobile port "remaster" of San Andreas made twice by the same presumably dirt cheap production company, would be able to find and recognise the necessary game development talent if it carjacked them and punched them in the face.

6:30 It kinda makes me tear up to know that the community is helping fix the garbage Rockstar spat in the faces of them..

Man, this just keeps getting sadder and sadder. You know, I always wanted a GTA IV remaster/remake. Well, not anymore, I want to remember GTA IV as the masterpiece that it is, not as a shitty, plastic looking cashgrab. Rockstar, TakeTwo, whatever, they've really kicked the hornets nest this time. Dear god almighty I can't wait when GTA VI will finally drop, in like 60 years or so, 10 bucks it will be an even bigger dumbsterfire than Cyberpunk 2077 was.

from what we can tell R* by now is completely incapable of making enough quality content to create a new GTA game, V probably will remain the last. twice a year they add some small area, usually just an "interior" that"s not inside anything on the map, but hidden behind a loading screen, a mission or some hastily put together jobs, and vehicles modeled by a third world studio badly copying a real world car instead of making something for the GTA world. the writers seem to be some left coast post teen hipsters. Red Dead is almost abandoned. they can"t remake, not even remaster their old games that got them their reputation themselves, but outsource it to a mobile game company. even the capacity for improving V on a technical level aren"t there as they used to be between PS3 and 4, looking at the trailer for E&E most of it is identical to the current game, and that still has the same massive security issues from not shielding the P2P network from malicious users it had since it started.

One of the developers, Thomas Williamson, left a tongue in cheek comment on Twitter after the game's release saying that "it's fun to see so many players out there really enjoying what we've put out there for them. Which that really sucks because it shows that he, himself, didn't care about the product he was putting out. I'll bet there were at least a few developers on the team who didn't want that crap to be released, but they can't do anything about it. Those are the people not saying anything. I think those employees eventually get turned into Thomas because Rockstar drains the soul for game creation out of them by squishing their creative ability. It's a shame really.

Outstanding Matt, said quiet passion , no personal abuse etc which is not needed but leaving rockstar in no doubt that we are not stupid. I agree with every single word you said, I would love someone from rockstar to have the balls to do an interview with you and let you ask them the real questions we need answered.

What I’ve been noticing is that we don’t get games that are fully ready to play upon release anymore. While I fully understand games are released with many bugs that went unnoticed sometimes, it just seems that game breaking bugs are becoming more and more present in modern titles. For example these games were a horrible occurrence of this, but games such as Forza horizon 5 also had evidence of being released with major issues. The first week the game came out there was the bug where the game would crash on high FPS. Then the game wouldn’t start and would have an infinite loading screen. I’m unsure how development teams let things such as game launching issues go unnoticed. Sadly I think money is more important than fans now.

It's the fact games can be updated. When original trilogy came out patching was not really possible since internet wasn't as widespread, consols waren't PCs. What was on the disc was the end product and it had to be good.

Oh yeah, only Rockstar will promote their BS launcher by adding the OG versions only to it while forgetting the PS Store, Xbox and Steam. Also, watch the patch fixing only the performance issues and forget the more serious bugs.

What I find so strange with this is how they "didn't anticipate" these bugs or "didn't have the time" to polish it properly. Didn't have time? Didn't have time? Who ever asked for this remaster anyway? I only heard about it a month before release and I'm into news. These games are twenty years old. Who would demand that the games from 2001, 2002 and 2004 MUST get released in November 2021 instead of any other date, like April 2022 or for that matter, June 2025? Where is the stress coming from? It certainly ain't by crushing popular demand for the holidays or anything like it. Take your time, or don't release it at all. Even the bug free product is a hack as far as I can tell, and I'm sticking to the PS2 versions. Not even a vanilla PC version, and it's still good for it.

I actually despise the new artstyle. I prefer the old graphics over the "definitive" one. Like, it looks like they went with a realistic artstyle with the base games. They legit just changed it to a worse look and feel. Even the minimap looks fucking shit, It's like if.. let's say: You had something that looks nice and fits with the artstyle, and then they just pissed on it. (Even the rain feels way less 3d, and more like a rain gif on your screen) They spent 2 years on this ffs, like cmon rockstar. Even one person could've done better, especially if they also spent 2 years. This was not an attempt, this was them shitting out of their pants and get paid for it. (Call me mad, but when we haven't had a gta game since gta 5, this is just sad to even look at)

Agree. The new games just look like cartoons now. The original games atleast tried to look as realistic as possible.

the DE is technically better graphically in terms of lighting etc but it has no art style or aesthetic. It looks like a shitty unity assetflip, gives me uncanny valley vibes

They said they intentionally made the character models look like that to preserve the cartoony style of originals, even though the only reason they looked at all cartoony in the first place was due to the limited graphics technology available then. The original models were about as realistic as was possible at the time.

Tbh, everyone should have seen this coming, simply from watching the trailers. But it is still disgusting and pathetic that T2 threatened modders, only for them to flog us this tripe. Not only did the characters and over compensating use of color look shit, but there was no gameplay to speak of before release. Thank goodness I held out.

Few sayings come into mind about this case: "Greedy have shitty ending" "You get what you order" "Dont buy pig in bag"

Games getting worse and worse and they want the same money... And then they say "We are so sorry about the problems but we fix it" yea yea... that shitty we fix it later mentality...

I like how they threw in that part at the end about fan's "Justifiably high standards" I feel like that is a snide comment about the complaining. No R* it's not high standards it's pretty much just expecting adequacy. and ya couldn't even do that.

But thesse games are ports from mobile and other mistakes like rescalation ,so the game is goin to get lot of bugs glitches design issues and shit because first off the game isnt made for other devices just for mobile they aint even add the 2 player mode in san andreas because at mobile is impossible play in 2 players, u think that add 2cond player mode is hard? Why modder are in it now, and you know why? Because rockstar didnt care bout deliver a classic remaster, its not just about "unexpected design issues" And yeah may the 2cond player mode is not a design issue but when u know that they ain even add this gamemode while beign to easy to do and more if youre a billonarie company, what do you expect of care bout the design issues, that again, modders did better at the time (2018) aint even console port 🤦‍♂️

It's kind of fucked up that these "devs" that created something as legendary as GTA, Bully and RDR series, gave us this as a "remaster". Multi-fucking-billion dollar company. It's really a shame that Indie devs care about their games that are being played by 10 people more than AAA Rockstar studio their series that are being played by millions of players..
