Great build. I think adding those backpackers really makes it a visually interesting piece. Too bad you had all those issues with the matt clear, but glad it was resolved despite the remaining mystery.

That's the great thing about building a diorama. Everyone is allowed to have their own stories.
Kind of reminds me of the scene from the awesome Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind...Turned out great though.

I've never used either Vallejo or any of the Mr. Products varnishes, but I have seen a lot of videos. One dude had trouble with Mr. Super Clear coming out glossy. It was because his can was too cold. Warming the paint returned it to proper flatness.

The Savanah nuclear ship would have been good for this diorama.

Really like that diorama. Strange that the paint did what it did, and I cannot offer up any idea why it did what it did.

I think you should have used AK INTERACTIVE corrosion texture that would have given it a more realistic corroded look on the rusty spots of the trawler itself.🙂
Very nice diorama! I really love when you add those tiny figures to show the scale. It also brings it to life. I could imagine walking in a desert and suddenly coming across this. It immediately would bring home the realization that the area used to be covered in water... and deep water at that. I think you "solved" the problem with your paint in the video and didn't realize it... when you said you "stuck it in some hot water to increase the pressure" (the last (and old) stuff you used). The new stuff may have needed to be heated up a bit the same way, depending on how cool it was when you tried to use it. I've had this happen sometimes with acrylic sprays when I was protecting paint on canvas. The spray was in a drawer that was a few degrees lower than the rest of the room... and it came out "funny" when sprayed... like not the way I expected it to. From my experience, these sprays need to be a bit warmer than you think, to work right. Hope that helps.

I like the way that turned out 👍👍 If you mix a bit of clay kitty litter into your grout it helps with the texture a lot. Back when I did a lot of dios I used a mix of 1 part litter and 3 parts Celluclay

I was just speculating. I don't know why things behave the way they do 😂 I'll do things the same way twice and get 2 different results because one time I did it during the winter and the next during summer humidity. Keep up the good work. You inspire me to get out and try new things with my leather work.

If two cans have the same effect even after using other varnishes, then ask Vallejo as it may be a reaction either to ubdercured paint. I rather use the Vallejo polyurethane matt varnish applied with the airbrush or the Mig lucky flat varnish.

I may need to try that. Thanks for watching
Th hole on the bow of the ship was it because it hit a rock in the past or something else that gave it a hole an oncoming headon collision? Just my guess.
Beautiful work! Were your figures printed with a resin printer? Very nice detail for so small a scale!
