Easy why I’m seeing this! My children’s father graduated in 1974. Very emotional day for me then! Just HAD to see how Trump screwed up the commencement, just so he had a photo op!!!!....DEMANDING all cadets had to come back despite Covid so he could make a speech! Very, despicable man! The highlight was, after his pitiable speech... So glad he had to spend over an hour saluting the graduates !!!!!

50 years ago I was at West Point as a Military Police Sergeant, Desk Sergeant, and Patrol Supervisor. Things have changed in terms of layout and facilities. It was during Vietnam and we had funeral duty almost every week. I lost track of how many 2nd Lieutenants we buried. It was also during Kent State and we practiced with riot gear. During my time there Eisenhower died, Patton the movie was released and I saw George C. Scott and Omar Bradley. Coach K was there and Tennis player Arthur Ashe. Bobby Knight was here as coach and I ticketed him for illegal parking behind the cadet mess. He was not a happy camper! Also there when MyLai massacre story broke and ABC news came in by copter to interview Gen. Koster. Too many stories to relate.

That was before women....I think they still may have been doing "Bracing"......I can imagine it was much harder back then.....I read the Thin Gray Line about the class of 66.....back then the upper classmen practiced food deprivation as well as sleep deprivation on the lower classmen which was out of line in my opinion as well as Bracing.....when you read about the shit that took place when guys went through 100 years ago the upper classmen should have been jailed....i get it that it is now kind of easy compared to years past, but at least these kids now can learn in a good environment......

There is a genuine sense of honor, of duty, of purpose that this young man and the students here possess which so many Americans today have forgotten. Yes, most units in the Army is not like this, particularly on the enlisted side of the house. You do PRT in the morning, or afternoon depending on the time of year. You go to work from 0900 to 1700 or when released, and most weekends you are off, unless on mission or on duty (CQ, Staff Duty, Extra duty). For military academies, the different customs are designed to instill discipline and traditional values in the cadets.

I am trying to swim for their NCAA team, but I'm not sure if my times are quite fast enough yet. Is their intramural team competitive and did you enjoy intramural swimming? Also how long does the college swim season last and are the NCAA season's longer than the intramural ones? Thank you again!

We had a West Point officer and he was one of the best and smartest officer in our battalion. We were on maneuvers and i was a radio operator, we were the only ones left from our battalion that was not sent back to barracks, we were just left to use as communications for the rest of the group and I was getting messages and did not realize he new Morse code and was listening to what we were saying until the end when he acknowledged to me what I said when I ended the message.

The psychology of West Point (in particular) has been well-studied. The administration of the Academy is fully aware of it and of exactly what they are doing. A psychiatrist wrote a book about it more than 30 years ago. I think it was titled something like "The Ivory Fortress".

My dad went to West Point and taught there, seems a little more lax in this video. They had limited numbers of chews when they ate, their bites had to be a certain size in proportion to their forks, AND it was their responsibility to fill upperclassmen's drinks among other responsibilities during mealtimes. I don't know how they got any food down. Even today, it's one of the toughest academies in the world to get into. Props to you guys!

I was impressed by a custom of a class reunion when a graduate attended his class reunion of 50 years. The first thing his class did upon arrival and gathering together was to visit the cemetery to pray and give respect to those who went before them. The long grey line. I don’t know if all classes at their reunions do the same thing.
