A Day in the Life of a TUM Computer Science Student

This video is for all of you that miss the uni life at TUM. Also for those of you that are unable to visit TUM before applying.
I have been thinking for a long time whether I should even post this video. But I think now is the perfect time. So I got over my self doubt and did it.

  • @developandplay

    Hello. I have one question I would like to ask. I plan to apply for an Aerospace course at TUM as it is taught in English. However, there are other courses which are only available in German that I find more interesting. I currently study German at school and when I get out of school it will be at minimum B2 quality, maybe reaching c1 if I do well enough. I know B2 is the minimum requirement to take a course taught in German, but I would like to know if i will be able to comfortably cope with being taught in German in a course I find more interesting, or if it’s better taking a less interesting course, like Aerospace, which is taught in English.

    For the Bachelor's program it's all about the grades and German skills. If you went a school which is officially recognized in Germany you should be fine. Otherwise there is Studienkolleg to prepare you for German universities. For the questions it's all about your motivation, first experiences of computer science, knowledge of math and whether you have an idea what the degree is about. So in general things you would know if you are curious about computer science and TUM.

    Well it is competitive to an extent but most programs don't have a fixed number of spots. So generally the idea is that you don't need to be the best student but a good student in high school. Some programs even have interviews in case you don't have the grades but can show your interest in the subject.

  • @developandplay

    @developandplay

    3 жыл бұрын

    For the Bachelors programs the admissions usually close by mid July (this year they extended it to end of July). Some programs that are not as competitive (e.g. physics) have admissions up to mid September. Make sure to check the TUM website for the program you are interested in. For all of the programs you have to get an official translation of your transcript to German. Also you need to make sure your high school diploma is considered equal to the German one. If I remember correctly this is true for the US but make sure to check that. For the programs that are taught in German (unfortunately most of them for undergrad) you also need to hand in a proof of German proficiency. Apart from that you just need your regular things like motivation letter and resume. Most programs don't require any letters of recommendation for undergrad. Feel free to ask more questions! I hope you get into the program you really like.

  • @developandplay

    Oh I misread this as May of 2021...If you graduate in 2022 I would consider learning German because it will give you more flexibility in terms of subjects and universities. It might be intense but I know a few friends that got the required level within a year. Of course once you enter university here it might still be tough but after about another year you will feel just like any other student.

    Yes you can definitely do that. I don't know how old you currently are but there are multiple options. If you are still in school I would recommend learning some German on the side or going to a German school if possible. If you are soon to be done then you could either try to go to Studienkolleg for one year or do an apprenticeship for 2-3 years and then start your degree. It all depends on your age, how good your German is and how quickly you want to start university!

  • @developandplay

    @developandplay

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@ankitprajapati5585 Yes all of the above require some level of German that's why I said it depends on how much time you have left until graduation. Just for reference getting to B2 can require somewhere between 1 to 3 years of studying depending on how much time you dedicate to it. Studienkolleg might not even be necessary for you if your grades are really good. Additionally some German universities offer English Bachelor programs. If you start an apprenticeship you will have a lower German requirement. But it takes about 2-3 years to finish. Of course going to a German high school in India would probably be your best and quickest option if that's possible. But don't feel like you can't learn German yourself. A few friends did that and it worked out really well for them.

    Generally yes, a 1,3 in the Abitur is incredibly good. For different bacherlors, specific subjects are reviewed though. For example, in the Bachelor of aerospace engineering, the averag abi grade is not counted but only the Math, english and physics grades are counted. You take the average across the 4 oberstufe semesters in these grades and appy the following formula: (((Mathavg*3)+engavg+(physavg*2)/6)+x)+6)+10). For x you add 1 for every 4 weeks of a topic related internship. This fromula works onluy with the 0-15 point scale. for the 1-6 scale youre gonna have to look at the webstite. If the result of the equation is above 78, youre accepted autamatically, if tis between 70 and 78 you have to do a round of interviews before getting accepted and if its below 70 youre out. Hope this helps
