They make light welding jackets. I use to weld with a sweater but after so many burns I'd rather sweat then burn.

My dad works at i steel company in utah called Amfab steel and he works in the office but i go to work with him once in a while and i go upstairs and look through the windows into the shop and just watch them all day. I weld myself i have a MIG welder and my garage is pretty much my shop. and after school i come home and weld all day. My dad brings me the scrap metal from the shop at his work and i usually just weld different stuff together.

Im practically a pothead fuck up in high school. Idk what to do after high school and Colledge doesn't seem like the path for me. Welding is the most intrested im in at the moment. I've thought about this job ever since i found out my aunt welds.

What type of pay did you get throughout your career, working for others? Like entry and anything else

So you go in and make 2 quick welds 15 min each and that takes 8 hours? is there some secret planning and prepping i missed?

How do I look up welding jobs in a shop, similar to the one you were in? And what certs / licenses do you need? Do you recommend going to welding schools to get certs? Ex: Lincoln electric welding school? I've been welding mig and stick for a few years.

My ex-boyfriend used to practice this profession, and I miss him. He broke up with me, so I only remember him with people who practice the same profession as him.😢😅

Im also not going to school and i have chosen to become a welder , i dont know which type of welding im going to master but surely i will work on everything , it's a good paying job if you earn skills demanded for the type of job you are looking for , so surely it's a good choice if you like it ! Give it a try and i hope you find yourself as i did myself ^^ Cheers !

Do welding skills help you if you wanted to do glass blowing?

here's a tip if you wanna protect your arms one thing i learned from a guy was use a hood or sweat shirt but get a spray bottle and just the it a bit not a lot but just enough to where it is moist

Oh btw I wear a long sleeve shirt under my welding jacket with leather, Gets a little hot in the summertime i’m used to it, it’s different for everybody.

I'd love to make some money using my powerarc welder.

It’s definitely not easy... you will find that out when you try it anyway. It’s also honestly not a very good career path. Good skill to know... not a good career path.

Or why not use Kevlar sleeves? I have a pair of elbow length. They work pretty well, and are a lot cooler than leathers all over.

@@C4_43 its hard if you dont have a steady hand, but its just another thing that takes practice and time to get better at. My welds for class didnt look great until the third week, once you see how its suppose to look it just kinda clicks and makes it easier to achieve. It also pays really well if you can preform well and do a good job

chrisevv98 structural welding like you see in the video doesn’t require traveling. You can either work in a shop or in the field. I did both because I was close to a LA city with never ending work

Welders are in very high demand. I can't see you having a hard time finding a job. There are many different avenues too. structural steel, elevators, pipe high/low pressure. Not all welding jobs are high paying, such as shop welders, but its a great way to get experience that a classroom won't teach you. Get certified and get out in the field to make more money. Journeyman's wage is around 60/hour right now. Then after a while, you can become a CWI (welding inspector) like me, to get paid more just to watch:)

I'm sure you know by now, but for those who like to read comments to further educate themselves. I used to work at Sears, shoe/boot department. I spoke to a lot of Ironworkers some people have the mentality of "men don't speak numbers", and some were really open and said a lot about the job without you asking, I truly respect both. Some of them have told me they make upwards of $75/hr as a foreman, union. Pipefitters in Bay Area, California make 55-65 an hour, as a journeyman
