You don't need them to inspect, real welders run smaw (stick) UPHILL always....only amateurs and pipeliners weld downhill.

I was fortunate to work as a helper for a seasoned welder in a fab shop. Learned a ton and still have full respect for him sharing his knowledge. That was 25 years ago. I still love fabrication. Those guys can make a big difference in someone’s outlook on a trade.

Not gonna lie, this looks like satisfying work. Prolly pays 5x as much as stocking shelves of a grocery store, too.

I made 115k first full year as a helper, 132k the second. The main thing about being a helper isn’t the money, it’s the experience. I moved up to inspector 4 years ago and haven’t made less than 280k a year since

Hearing someone say they made only 2 welds a whole shift isnt impressive till you see the sheer scale, requirements, quality and how many beads you gotta lay on a 42 inch pipe. Damn impressive. Keep it up guys

I'm an old man now, but dad was a welding inspector and at 16 I found myself as a welder helper for a hot pass welder to start with. Pipelined until the creation of OPEC. I helped quite few welders, some great and some worse than a spoiled dog. I was 3rd generation pipeliner. I really enjoy you and things you do.

I rather have this job than doing roofing now that I'm seeing what they do pretty awesome 🤙

The company i work for makes 45s and 90s up to 48 inches in diameter for pipelines . its nice to see them being installed instead of just dropping off of the forge at work.

Austin. hi, my name is Andy, I worked pipeline for about ten years, I want to tell you my story some time. I like your videos and find myself watching them a lot. Part of my story is I came out of the hall green to pipeline as a laborer (Labor Foreman on heavy highway work for 20 years) then the Millennium pipeline came through New York, 382 miles along the western tear of NY state, I worked on 2 spreads with one of the most hard core Superentindents ever , won't say his name but its RF, well after 2 years green I became #1 and 1/2 on the call list, It was the best 10 years of my life, I met many great folks, welders, helpers, drivers, operators and laborers, with whom I still send Christmas cards with. I did a short stint as assistant Safety man, not my favorite roll but I got to meet everyone up close on our 500 plus spread. One small, very small tip, have your helper put a guard on that grinder. I know I know believe me I know, but almost any job in 2019 they can run you off for that. I would like to share my story with you.. Keep on keeping on and be safe, God Bless.. Andy..

Watching this make me miss welding. I always welded in factory settings. I'm actually trying to get back into welding. So I'm really looking forward to it.

These videos have a very high quality to them. Mr. Ross you do a excellent job interviewing people to elicit relevant and on-point testimony from the pipeliners. Have you worked as a teacher or instructor in a prior job?

Nice looking welding rig. Simple and effective

I love it. I'm learning how to weld with my everlast welders and really enjoy it. Maybe a life as a welder is in the cards for me. I sure do like watching welding and doing it myself.

My advice to guys, if you like using your head, get into fab work and well hookups, if you like fast paced repetitive work , get into main line.

Great video. Looking forward to making that journey.

Thanks. Congrats on graduating soon. Fab job would still be a great place to get experience. I worked at a fab shop for 3 years right after high school. That gave me tons of experience. I don’t regret it at all. But I hear ya. This is where I enjoy being most. So keep the goal in view. 😎👌

I worked on a survey crew for two spreads (42") in Canada. Welders are the rockstars of the operation. I never really got a chance to see the welding up close. Thanks, this is neat! The other rockstar was the pipe engineer who would walk the line with his assistant and mark all the bends out. Memories!

My father once had a helper named Buffalo. He looked like Karl Childers the main character from Sling Blade. Buffalo kind of talked like him as well.

So about 3 years ago freshmen year in high school I had a offer to go be a helper for somebody but blew it off and watched this same video and here I am now back on this video rewatching it because I really love welding and with my creative mind I can become a welder

Wish I had found this video when I just started helping... I’m a helper in West Texas have been helping for nearly 2 years it’s an awesome job super high paying for how repetitive and chill it is although you do work your ass off from time to time and depending what hours they work you can be straight exhausted from working 7 12’s for months on end if you guys fall behind from wind outs or rainouts

@Sametra Kelly I just did it for fun. I know some friends who do it. It’s hard work, but if you run your own business then it’s better than welding for a company.

Nice video on your profession. My shop recently let go a welder who did not make it past his 90 days. He was asking me for help on projects. I can weld. But as a Diesel mechanic not the best. It takes a lot of fabrication and patience to become a great welder.

It's a sunday morning and it's my day off from work, and I'm sitting here watching and learning from you. I think the helpers should wear knee pads just like the welders. I'm a plumber and I know about being on my knees😂😂🤘🏽🛠 great video.

We would get sent home if the instructor caught us being unsafe ..

Dave Smith An x-ray tech and his helper will shoot the weld any time after we are done with it. Some gas companies require the weld to set for 24 hours before they x-ray it. Yes i will put it on my list.

Let me guess they are 30 inch pipes btw you are really good at grinding and buffing. Also isn't it unsafe to operate the welding machine while in a pickup. In my site my contractor doesnt allow that.But what you are doing really saves alot of time other wise you have to frequently transport the welding machine from one location to another within the plant.

Im looking to be a welder helper after i graduate. This is super helpful dude.

fabrication is the coolest.. but it's all great ... (that underwater stuff is insane ..so I guess that's why they make insane money ) but Weldon is alot cooler than I wouldve ever imagined... it's a better trade than being a cop. that's for dang sure...make .ore money too....

Just recently started helping a welder for a gas well company. Mostly pipe fitting

Getting paid that much do do that! ! Thats easy. . I already do 70 to 84 hours a week sitting on my butt driveing truck.
