A Day in Our Life | Living With Free Roam Bunnies

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Took a little break from the usual education content to show you guys a glimpse of what a typical day looks like for us. I'm currently working on videos about our litter routine, diet, bunny proofing and broken bonds. What video do you guys want to see next?

Turbo is a young male mini lop and Bunmi (Banh Mi) is a female mystery rescue bun from The Rabbit Sanctuary. They live free roam and occasionally snuggle with us, their human slaves.

I love how the bunnies are a part of your everyday life! When I was a kid, I hated that my beloved dog and I couldn't have something like that, I'd have to wake up at 6 AM, get ready for school, be at school all day then after would be extra curriculars, homework and getting ready for the next day which became more of an intense cycle as I got older, pushing my baby out of my life as the pressures of college and a career weighed heavily on me. She's 15 now and thanks to the pandemic, I can spend what may be her last 2 or 3 years of life with her every day as I complete my degree online. Our animal companions are so special, I really hope more and more people can spend all day every day with their fur-babies.

Some people have very politely asked me about why their hay doesn't look green and it's a completely fair question. It makes me happy to know that bunny parents are being diligent with hay quality and I would have the same concern (Some deleted their comments but I still saw the notification). The main hay Turbo and Bunmi eat is oaten and barley. These are cereal hays and their colouring is a lighter green than typical grass hays or Lucerne/alfalfa (which is a legume hay). I buy my hay in bales and the outside gets bleached so it turns yellow. I keep it to use as bedding in the litterbox but the bunnies still choose to eat it and unless my bunny vet tells me that's bad, I'm not going to stop them from eating the bleached hay as they still eat the greener pieces as well. If you would like some reassurance, I just posted some stories on my insta of Turbo and Bunmi eating their hay and you can see it's greener than it looks in this video. It also shows how Turbo chooses the yellow ones over the green ones sometimes lol. Bunnies are weird 🤷🏻‍♀️🐰❤

Hi Sarah :) At least of their diet should be a variety of grass hays as their little bodies need lots of fibre! They can have a small amount of bunny safe leafy greens and fruit is an occasional treat. Pellets are optional but if you are going to feed them, it would be best to feed the ones from Oxbow or Burgess. Feeding cheaper pellets and museli mixes can do more harm than good. Hope that helps x

@@sarahsu4863, You have been doing everything right if the bunny is 3 months or older you will start introducing them to veggies and fruit, and herbs. I would recommend a cup of veggies and a 1\4 cup of pellets, but if your bunny is younger than 3 months, they need a lot of Alafaya hay and a bowl filled with pellets. Our 2 bunnies are a little bit more courteous with their bed-jumping and tend to only do it when they've lost their patience (we're not morning people) when waiting for breakfast (and morning pettings). If we close the door to our bedroom for the night, we get a bunch of scratching on the door because "Hey, this is our room too!". So if one of us humans goes to bed before the other one and there a still lights on, we only mostly close the door, leaving a little bunny gap. If the gap is too little, our bunnies will push the door all the way open.

I have a Holland lop . Got her February 2021 when she was 1 month old. I suggest that if it’s litter box trained and not chewing on wires, cords ,etc. then definitely let them free roam . It’ll make them happy and less frightful. But if you’re gonna be litter training then wait until they understand to pee/poop in the litter box or else you’re gonna wake up to a mess in the morning.

Yep those are fine! Bunnies should be eating all parts of the hay (stems, leaves and seed heads). The only seed heads I know of to be problematic are matured oat hay seeds. Usually, good quality oat hay is harvested before the seed head matures so those ones are fine (Oxbow oat hay does this).

Turbo started getting really naughty at around 5 months old. I'd wake up to chew lamps, shredded tissue boxes and all sorts of other mess but since getting Bunmi, he's calmed down a lot. I've slept in the living room many nights and all they do is snuggle, groom each other and chew cardboard

  • @BunsBestLife

    @BunsBestLife

    3 жыл бұрын

Hi, yes you are correct that the yellow stuff lacks nutrition. I feed them Oaten/Barley which already isn't as green as other grass hays (the natural colour is a lighter green). I also buy my hay in bales and the outside of the bale gets bleached but I still keep it to use as bedding. They still eat it though in addition to the greener pieces and my thinking is that even if it's not nutritious, it still gets then chewing and their gut moving? That's just my thinking though, I haven't checked that with a vet, so I'll be sure to ask at my next appointment! Also, I think my phone camera struggles to capture the green properly so it looks more yellow than in real life. I'll be doing a diet video soon and hopefully I can show the hay better there. They're still getting fresh, green stuff each feeding time ❤

Beautiful and healthy bunnies!!! 😍 Many rabbit owners argue about the correct diet. I gave up on finding what People think rabbits diet should be. Animals are quite wise about their lifestyle and food. If they love to eat something, most likely it's good for them. Of course owners must control the amount and not give too much sweet fruits like apples and peaches bunnies adore. Some vets say greens are good, some say greens are Bad. If your bunny adores parsley and dill, that means it's great for him! In a nature they eat all sorts of veggies they find, fresh veggies have tons of vitamins and minerals for them. 😁 so, trust your bunny!

My bunny is 2 months and he has this bad habit of pooping and peeing on our bed and couch, which is why we always supervise him which ever room we’re in and when we can’t supervise I.e go out to the store we keep him in his enclosure which is fairly big it takes up half our bedroom. Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.] - (AMPLIFIED version) NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. Xx

I know there's lots of conflicting information about this, whether bunnies really need veggies or not. A lot of the information is also outdated and even rabbit vets have conflicting views about this. I've consulted 3 rabbit vets myself about it because Bunmi has always been really sensitive to greens, even a small amount resulted in tummy upset so their staple diet is a variety of hays and a small amount of pellets. They also get big piles of fresh grass and rabbit safe weeds when I can get that for them. Bunmi's gut has stabilised over the past 3 months (I wanted to give her gut flora proper time to rebalance and rule out any other issues). I've started giving her treat quantities of various greens to see what she can tolerate which I guess I should have shown in the video. I follow a few Facebook groups for Australian rabbit owners and have seen many stories from owners claiming their bunnies do better without veggies (better poops and no more gut issues). Not all bunnies are the same, some might be sensitive to certain foods that others are not. Turbo and Bunmi are an example of this. I'm not saying that I'll never feed leafy greens to my rabbits, I'm open to giving them what they can tolerate. Just still figuring it out

I've addressed the hay in the pinned comment and these bunnies currently only get veggies as an occasional treat because Bunmis tummy is really sensitive to veggies. They can survive fine without veggies but it's great to have a bit in their diet if they can tolerate it. Bunmi can't.

@@hannakurt yes I'm including leafy salad greens in veggies. I've been giving Bunmi small bits to see what she can tolerate but it's not a core part of their diet at the moment. When I first got Bunmi, she was having some gut issues so she was put on a hay only diet for a while to help her gut flora rebalance itself. Things may change in the future but for now, their diet is mostly hay, fresh washed grass (when I can get it) and a very tiny amount of quality pellets. It may be worth checking out this article from this amazing rescue group where I got Bunmi from www.rabbitsanctuary.com.au/blogs/post/grass-or-greens

If the bunny is 3 months or older, you will start introducing them to veggies, fruit, and herbs. I would recommend a cup of veggies and a 1\4 cup of pellets, but if your bunny is younger than 3 months, they need a lot of Alafaya hay and a bowl filled with pellets. I recommend this channel pls watch @LennonTheBunny. > > Love your channel!!!!!!

Thank you! Yes as a general guide, that's a fine diet but there's isn't a single correct diet that will work for every bunny as there's more factors to consider such as quality and nutrition content 😊 That particular amount you just recommended would be way too rich for my bunnies who get max 1 tablespoon of pellets and leafy greens in treat quantities

If you going to cage a pet, don't bother getting one. My bunny has the run of the house and he's zero problem at all. Doesn't chew things, always goes to his room and litter box when he needs to go. It really infuriates me when people keep animals in cages.
