A day in Homer, Alaska ( 4K HD )

Homer is one of the better known towns in Alaska. Sitting at the southern end of the Sterling Highway, it is home to about 6,000 people - number that goes much higher when tourists, fishermen and cruise ship passengers flood the town in the summer. It is being the end of the land quite literally -- to continue your travel you would need to take an Alaska Marine Highway ferry. There's a symbolic monument over there to mark the end of the road. Homer is such a charm with its waves, yachts and seagulls. And houses standing on poles extended into the sea, just wow. You'll see and hear them all in this video. Thanks for watching!

beautifully filmed and the mountains coming down to meet the sea are really spectacular--something about hearing the waves, the call of the seagulls, the movement of the water in the bay. Amazing, centering and peaceful--thank you!

Anything to beat the rat race of the lower 48. Plus with Alaska being a petroleum state it will be the last state to ever mandate electric cars. I'm a vintage car collector and such mandates are a threat to our hobby.

Orcas and porpoises are not uncommon in the summer, Humpbacks are common in late Summer and Fall. I've also seen Pilot whales and Belugas. @@timcarson1471

  • 3 жыл бұрын

Gusty wind and seagulls - Homer has a plenty of these. But it's a very nice town, restaurants are so good. Never went fishing there, but a friend went around Kenai and Soldotna and was happy about it.

Sounds like an awesome town except for all the tourists flooding the place in the summer. I'm guessing that's probably where the city's crime comes from.

  • 4 күн бұрын

Overtourism is a huge problem in Alaskan bush capitals like Homer, Juneau etc. With thousands people around you, it is challenging to personally connect to a place.

I'm originally from Arizona which I left 34 years ago. Now days the mountain towns up north which don't have the desert heat are flooded with tourists mostly from Phoenix. The residents can't wait for October & November to roll around when the tourists stop coming.

Homer and surrounding area deserve more than this, I agree. It's not ideal to be time bound as I was there. Will plan my time better next time.
