My mother had a set of chisels for carving decorations in wood, I haven’t touched them since she died 20 years ago. Watching you do your woodworking I’ve been thinking maybe I ought to drag them out and see if I could learn how to do a little bas relief artwork, but I’m sure they’re dull if not rusty by now, and I can see there’s a lot more to maintaining the chisels than I thought. Thanks for the lesson!

My pleasure 🙏 ☺
Sharpening the chisels, planer blades is probably the most important step before beginning any job, which I am glad you emphasized - with the second being proper measurement and layout on carefully selected and prepared wood. It is always good to watch a master craftsman do his work, which in this case was preparing his tools. I am glad you covered this very important step today Budo as it was educational. I am sure we are all looking forward to more of "Budo's Tips and Tricks" in upcoming video's! P.S. One additional thing, when you measured how far the chisel portrudes from the guide (holder), is that a universal technique or something only for that brand/type of sharpening guide? I did not know that, nor have I ever heard of it so I am glad you demonstrated that as I learned something new. Thanks for mentioning that!

Hi Truman and thank you for your great comment buddy 😀👍🏻 On the guide measurement thing you can do it with any guide just put a chisel or plane blade in the device at a position then place a protractor next to it to find the required angle you need once you have it mesure back from the front of the chisel or plane iron and remember that number buddy hope this helps all the best Budo 👍🏻

Hi hoosier most wood working chisels are sharpend between 25% & 30% as chisels have a harder time then knifes and have to break through wood fibres so they are set at this angle to hold the edge longer hope this helps Budo 👍🏻 😀
Perfecto ❤
