A Creative Approach To Climate Change | Finnegan Harries | TEDxTeen

Climate change is a fact. Calling all creatives. Finnegan Harries is a British designer and an architect-in-training at Parsons School of Design.
In 2011, he founded the popular KZread blog JacksGap with his twin brother Jack Harries. The blog has more than 4.1 million subscribers and 200 million views. The brothers have used their influence on KZread and social media to drive dialogue around social and environmental challenges such as mental health and climate change.
In 2015, Finn moved from London to New York to pursue a degree in architecture at Parsons School of Design. He will graduate in 2018. Finn also sits on the Executive Board of an American 501(c)(3) non-profit called The School Fund, where he advises on design and digital strategy. The School Fund provides scholarships to ambitious students in developing countries by crowdfunding what is needed and distributing grants through local partners in the countries where they work. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

oh trust me i'm really aware of that. Finn and Jack (his brother) are both vegan so the fact that Finn didn't mention it doesn't mean he doesn't support it or is unaware of it. he was supposed to talk about CLIMATE CHANGE from the perspective of a designer and architect student and that doesn't involve the way we eat- of course he would've mentioned it otherwise. so yeah, i still think they're both doing amazing work and this TED talk is a piece of that.

Everyone who has met you is really truly lucky and maybe you won't read this but it feels good to speak it out, i wish you the best in all your proyects and i'm shure you will make a change, if it doesn't is in the environment it will be in the people who follows you

BECAUSE HE IS GOOD LOOKING. UNATTRACTIVE GUYS CANNOT MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO DO WHAT HE DOES AND LIKELY HE IS SUPPORTED BY HIS WEALTHY FAMILY. NOT ONLY THAT BUT YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT HIM BECAUSE HE IS GOOD LOOKING. IF HE WERE NOT GOOD LOOKING HE WOULD NOT BE KNOWN BY MILLIONS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF KZread CHANNELS MADE BY UNATTRACTIVE GUYS... THEY BARELY GET OVER 50 VIEWS A VIDEO EVEN AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF UPLOADING.

Finn: *mentions Jack* *a single tear rolls down my face* Ok, seriously though. "Our Changing Climate" has been very present in my life throughout the past year. It stuck with me so so much and has inspired me to take the chances that I have and plan out a social service for my school which I should be starting pretty soon, as well as taking part in my cousin's recycling projects. I'm really proud of what you two have become, and I'm forever grateful of the great influence you have on an audience that has followed you for many years. I really do hope the impact is even greater.

I have such a passion for caring for the environment. I want to study environmental engineering and create sustainable alternatives to plastics, energy, food...etc. However, I personally feel very conflicted as I have always had a desire to travel so strong I do not want to be in one place for too long. I know how bad planes and other modes of transportation are for the environment, but I believe that if I, along with others, have a passion, we can figure out a way how to do so sustainably.

I admire him for what he has become and for using his popularity to such a great cause. I absolutely agreed with everything he was saying until he mentioned the bamboo structure he helped design in NYC. Building bamboo structures is NOT a solution since it's the main reason pandas are endangered. They used to live in Laos, Vietnam and China and nowadays there are only about 1,800 of them and they can only be found in China and all due to deforestation.

Very effective public speaker, I suspect your acting background is helpful. Let's hope young people are willing to fight to save the planet, because that is the ultimate goal of Climate Change, to stop the collapse of the world. When worldwide drought comes, that causes the worldwide collapse of agriculture, and the collapse on this scale of agriculture means the world wide collapse of the economy, none of which will be helped by the worldwide collapse of the oceans. This is indeed the defining disaster of our lifetimes. If we don't started SOON, it means a complete collapse of society. This is nature doing a much needed reset. This means a massive portion of the world population destroyed. This means the collapse of infrastructure. This mean, well perhaps not going back to the Stone Age, but going back very close to the Bronze age. Given that we only have one EARTH to exploit, we either get consumption and population under control, or we except the inevitable collapse of society worldwide.

It's sad that this two brothers fear mentioning veganism being a critical part of the solution because of the judgement/stereotype it commonly carries... However, I hope that they can still help by this less explicit approach; many people are turnoff by the mere word vegan. They live by example, yes, both are vegan, but it would be great if they put it on their massive channel. This is urgent. Either way I love them.
